is resetting a PC and reformat using ISO the same thing? is it possible file corrupted in drive C so resetting the PC might not fix the problem instead install through ISO might be safer?

Do a boot menu clean install (format the OS partition) with USB thumb drive after upgrade and activated by Microsoft is the best way. You get a very clean OS, without bundle of software from you manufacturer. Yup it is time consume, but you do it once only to get a fresh device, just like a new bought device but without unnecessary software install inside that cannot uninstall

Any of you encounter this issue, everytime I switch on my PC, my LAN Card will unable to detect my unifi although it's working fine around the house. The workaround is for me to disable the network card and restart it again. Let me know if it's a software update issue for the LAN card?

by a clean install, i usually wipe the os drive clean, i.e. remove all system/os/recovery partitions created by the previous os. this is done by diskpart > clean (check on how to use diskpart first. this is a destructive command. do it to wrong drives nightmares will follow). then i let the os installer to create new default layouts, format the partitions, then do installation.

which one to pick is up to personal preference. if one method doesn't work the way you want it to, you can do the next one.

.. it's not free 1 year upgrade. it's a permanent upgrade for the life of your device. you don't need key for a clean install after this.

Make sure the hardisk built in is the same inside your PC/laptop. Microsoft using the hardisk ID to detect the key. If same, then you are forever free for the same bit version. I am not sure if you change Home version to Pro version, may be it will cost you

Here is what i did in order to get advantages for this newly Windows 10 OS & get problems / bugs free. My devices is ASUS N53 series laptop with clean installation of Windows 10 Home x64

1. Perform ugrade from your Windows 7 SP1 or 8.1 using upgrade reserve or Media Creation Tool. Later, make sure the windows is activated. This is a MUST step in order to get Windows activated the official way.

2. Later, perform Clean installation from your created ISO USB / DVD burn disk by formating the OS(C:\) partiton. You will get a fresh OS later on. All the files/software inside C drive will delete. Skip for key request during clean installation process

3. Connect your Ethernet such as Streamyx (Setting in Stremyx modem remain unchanged, just the DNS server address in your Ethernet connect devices change to automatically by Microsoft. You can change it later on to Stremyx DNS or Google DNS) to get access to internet.

4. Perform this manual driver installation steps (in this case, ASUS N53 series laptop). Restart when required.

- Manual install the Realtek HD Audio Driver/Software. For low sound issues in Realtek, just change it in Realtek Software setting (disable the environment setting, play around with bit rate)
-  Manual install the Nvidia Geforce Driver
- Manual install the ASUS ATK Package for Windows 10 to solve out the Fn keys issues in Windows 10. After installation, tick the button in ATK App to access the Fn keys

5. Perform the Windows Update to download all the drivers update / Microsoft bugs fix. Restart when required.

6. Check the ”Device Manager” to make sure there is no error for all your built in driver. If error occur, just right click the driver and perform ”driver software upgrade” Microsoft will search & fix the problem for you. Make sure that the connection is on.

7. Install those ”optional features” from setting/ Control Panal. Make sure that the connection is on.

- Chinese/Malay/India languages pack (for keyboard typing, handwriting, speech) from optional features
- Language pack for OS language if you require from Control Panel language setting
- Microsoft. Net features from optional features
- Direct X Utility features from optional features
- Install the free Offline Maps for Malaysia from Microsoft built in App ”Here Maps”

8. Perform all the necessary software installation that you required. Here is some tips

- For me, Windows Defender is well enough for average users to get protection from virus or malware. There is not necessary to install another antivirus/ malware software to get protected. It will confuse & cause the OS to slow down
- You can also install Libre Office (latest beta version is great) to replace Microsoft Office
- No need to install additional adobe flash player because Microsoft Edge, IE & Chrome is built inside adobe flash player. On the others hand, Firefox & Opera require to install additional adobe flash player
- Install the Java Runtime Environment software because some software or browser may need it

9. For external devices such as the smartphone, printer, USB devices & external hardisks, just plug n play and allow Windows to search for necessary drivers for installation purposes

10. Set up all those setting in you control panel, software & apps You are feel to go & enjoy this final version of Microsoft OS for a very long time until your device is dead. It is excellent in a nutshell with clean installation !!!

Hopefully the above guides will help you all. Thanks

Ya, win 10 home.... Why it is so important to get the MS OFFICE updates??
*
Those updates fixed some bugs in Macro/Formatting & some linking issue, if you use them for work you will notice the problem.

The most noticeable bug is previewing the document doesn't show the same result as in your actual document. Alignment of text is off, or picture in text box not at the place you wanted to be.

User with new laptop that supports BIOS/UEFI they have the cdkey stored inside, Win8 above will detect & install it without asking the key.

If your system had the key stored you can just skip the key in cdkey process, let the install finish then it will be activated when your system is connected online

a clean install (i.e. wiping os drive clean, removing all partitions) is good if you wanna get rid of old recovery partition. i just noticed that there were 2 recovery partitions in os drive after upgrade. the old recovery partition was at the beginning of the drive, the new one at the end of drive.

The C drive has shrunk 450MB at the end to make way for a new Windows 10 recovery partition. biggrin.gif

I'm not an expert, just had the experience to perform clean win 7 installation on about 10 PC/ laptop. But sorry I think I'm too dumb I can't understand your guide.

Since C:\ partition will be formatted for a clean install, why should Win 7 or 8.1 still need to perform upgrade before format?

If the win 7 is already activated the first day I bought the laptop, isn't it consider official activation already?
