Here is what i did in order to get advantages for this newly Windows 10 OS & get problems / bugs free. My devices is ASUS N53 series laptop with clean installation of Windows 10 Home x64

1. Perform ugrade from your Windows 7 SP1 or 8.1 using upgrade reserve or Media Creation Tool. Later, make sure the windows is activated. This is a MUST step in order to get Windows activated the official way.

2. Later, perform Clean installation from your created ISO USB / DVD burn disk by formating the OS(C:\) partiton. You will get a fresh OS later on. All the files/software inside C drive will delete. Skip for key request during clean installation process

3. Connect your Ethernet such as Streamyx (Setting in Stremyx modem remain unchanged, just the DNS server address in your Ethernet connect devices change to automatically by Microsoft. You can change it later on to Stremyx DNS or Google DNS) to get access to internet.

4. Perform this manual driver installation steps (in this case, ASUS N53 series laptop). Restart when required.

- Manual install the Realtek HD Audio Driver/Software. For low sound issues in Realtek, just change it in Realtek Software setting (disable the environment setting, play around with bit rate)
-  Manual install the Nvidia Geforce Driver
- Manual install the ASUS ATK Package for Windows 10 to solve out the Fn keys issues in Windows 10. After installation, tick the button in ATK App to access the Fn keys

5. Perform the Windows Update to download all the drivers update / Microsoft bugs fix. Restart when required.

6. Check the ”Device Manager” to make sure there is no error for all your built in driver. If error occur, just right click the driver and perform ”driver software upgrade” Microsoft will search & fix the problem for you. Make sure that the connection is on.

7. Install those ”optional features” from setting/ Control Panal. Make sure that the connection is on.

- Chinese/Malay/India languages pack (for keyboard typing, handwriting, speech) from optional features
- Language pack for OS language if you require from Control Panel language setting
- Microsoft. Net features from optional features
- Direct X Utility features from optional features
- Install the free Offline Maps for Malaysia from Microsoft built in App ”Here Maps”

8. Perform all the necessary software installation that you required. Here is some tips

- For me, Windows Defender is well enough for average users to get protection from virus or malware. There is not necessary to install another antivirus/ malware software to get protected. It will confuse & cause the OS to slow down
- You can also install Libre Office (latest beta version is great) to replace Microsoft Office
- No need to install additional adobe flash player because Microsoft Edge, IE & Chrome is built inside adobe flash player. On the others hand, Firefox & Opera require to install additional adobe flash player
- Install the Java Runtime Environment software because some software or browser may need it

9. For external devices such as the smartphone, printer, USB devices & external hardisks, just plug n play and allow Windows to search for necessary drivers for installation purposes

10. Set up all those setting in you control panel, software & apps You are feel to go & enjoy this final version of Microsoft OS for a very long time until your device is dead. It is excellent in a nutshell with clean installation !!!

Hopefully the above guides will help you all. Thanks

it's a compatible driver. manufacturers usually use same parts to make products, so the drivers released by one manufacturer can be used in products made by other manufacturers that have the same parts.

looks like lenovo is more hard working than asus in your case.

QUOTE(horns @ Aug 6 2015, 09:24 AM)
w10 upgrade, if followed correctly, should be relatively seamless. about forced upgrade, know that we all have different hardware and software in our systems. some are fine if you do it, but some are bad. that's why forced upgrade is never recommended, because when you do that you just increase the potential risks to fail. however if you know what you're doing and prepare for the worst, nothing bad will happen even if the upgrade failed. no matter what you do, make a full backup of your system and data before upgrade.

whether to upgrade or not, it's really up to you. you might wanna take the time to read about w10. there are features that some users find them hard to swallow and eventually revert to original os. (read previous posts for details and comments)

the free upgrade offer starts with upgrading an activated os when it's connected to the internet. the whole process will not ask you for key. once you have confirmed the new os is activated online, you can proceed with a clean install. just skip to next when you're asked for a key.

a direct clean install of w10 will not get activated with old key.

about drivers, it's best to look for compatible drivers (as complete as possible), download them before upgrade, just in case. usually you can find the latest drivers from manufacturers' websites.
yes i do that. i'm fine with the current boot time. if you must have fast boot, then don't.
what's the brand of your laptop? a factory reset from stock factory image usually will activate automatically. if it doesn't work, try phone activation. at administrative command prompt type slui 4 and follow the instructions.

HP.. will try... Yesterday spent whole night to find product key. Ended up the key is not working cry.gif Could it be possible that since the license activiated for win10. Then I reformat laptop and back to win8 (with win10 data wipe off). In their system, is they "see" the key is used by a win10 user... So, this key is not valid to activate my current win8..
But I try download win10, cannot proceed because license is not activiated in win8 sad.gif

I really dont quite get how this Windows 10 upgrade system works.

I have my own Windows 8.1 PRO keys, and my current ultrabook using Windows 8.1 SL.

I already install Windows 8.1 PRO on my ultrabook and force update to Windows 10 PRO. Everything is successful, BUT, there are a few questions:

1) Windows said that after a month of usage, the W10 PRO key will be bind forever to the ultrabook. Whats gonna happen to W8.1 SL on my ultrabook motherboard? Gone?
2) Whats gonna happen to my W8.1 PRO key? Cant be use again in future?
3) Ive already use Produkey to get the serial keys available and currently im able to find 3 keys, W8.1 SL, W8.1 PRO, and also W10 PRO. Im wondering is the W10 PRO key legit? Cuz this software manage to get my W8.1 PRO key correctly, so im assuming its legit and i can safely use it to clean install later on in future?

Windows 10 is awesome, cant wait for this "testing" phase to past. Luckily Lenovo is quite fast on updates. thumbup.gif

Definitely backup bro! Cuz windows 10 is relatively new, it supports latest model hardware but not sure for older hardware, so to be safe just backup. Or just go to Asus website and see if your laptop driver for Windows 10 are already available for usage.

Yeap. Manage to get the product key with the software. But when I factory reset my laptop, it just says the product key in my laptop doesn't work. It comes out error code "0xC004C4AA"

it's still in the grace period so it's unlikely the key will be consumed so soon. (you have 30 days after successful upgrade)

first of all, cross check if your system key matches the one in your bios.
1. to get the partial product key (last 5 characters) in the os, run slmgr /dlv at administrative command prompt.
2. to get the key in bios, use produkey.

if these two match, meaning the os captured the right key. if not:
1. at administrative command prompt do slmgr /upk to remove the old key from system
2. do slmgr /ipk your.key.in.bios to install the key in bios into your os.
3. after the key is accepted successfully, do an activation online.

if online activation failed, run slui 4. select malaysia as country and proceed with phone activation.

you shouldn't start removing rollback files so soon. you have 30 days to try w10 out before you decided to keep it or roll back to old one.

1) yes, according to ms, it will be consumed after 30 days, starting from successful upgrade. it will bind it to your pro key. nothing happen to the w8.1 sl key. you can still use it if you decided to transfer w10 pro to another computer (do slmgr /upk at administrative prompt to unregister your pro key first before reinstalling 8.1 sl; assuming your w8.1 pro key is retail).
2) if it's an upgrade from w8.1 pro retail key, you can use it in another computer. one at a time.
3) that w10 key is a generic one, meaning all of us are having the same key. no you cannot use it to activate w10. we have repeated this many times before, w10 obtained from free upgrade offer do not need any key to do clean install. as long as the upgrade path is correct, ms activation server will capture the hardware id from your device on which the upgrade took place, so that you can do w10 clean installs on it as many times as you want.

it's a better practice. if bad things happen you can always do restore with the backup.

yes. a clean installation doesn't mean your computer will get all the compatible drivers automatically. it also depends on how fast the manufacturers of your computer release compatible drivers to you. (apparently some manufacturers still cannot cope with this)

to do this proactively, you can look up compatible drivers from the part manufacturers' websites.
