I dunno why people keep on slating Rafa for being negative. Rafa is a very cautious manager, in poker analogies, he will not go all in to get that river rat. If he has pocket pairs, trust me...he will make teams fold before they even get to see the fourth card.
He's portrayed as negative because he emphasizes on defense rather offense. He build his teams from the back to the front. To him, a tied scoreline is losing, one goal lead means a draw to him, 2 goal lead is leading, and only a 3 goal lead will appease him.
He plays his team and adapts his formation to neutralize his opponents rather than rushing them with diamonds head on like a hardliner. Have you ever seen him celebrate a goal? His biggest joy is winning an away match with a clean sheet and not beating opponents 5-0 at home.
We beat a Ronaldinho fuelled Barca at Nou Camp, beat Real Madrid at Bernabeu and thrashed them in the return leg, made Igor Biscan a cult hero with his standout performance against Deportivo with a ragged out team(away), halted the Chelsea juggernaut twice in CL semi finals and shut Mourinho up and lastly the great miracle of Istanbul in his first fekking season.
People need to be appreciative of what Rafa has done to Liverpool. Which other manager in Liverpool has garnered so much support from the fans to the point thousands took it to the streets to voice their support for Rafa upon hearing news he gonna be replaced? I'm not ashamed to admit I'm a Rafa loyalist..coz that man deserves every bit of it.
Exactly why I'm no big fan of his style. He is the reactive type rather than proactive and make the opponents worry about us instead. It has counted against him time and time again in the league as we struggle to score even against lesser oppositions because we were playing too cautiously which reinforces my belief that he is a very good cup manager and not one who will last the race for the league. Apart from Mourinho, there really isn't anyone else who can boast consistently winning numerous titles by playing reactive football. It is often the proactive offensive juggernaut teams who will win it all.
That said, Rafa is still the best we've had since the early 90s and massive respect for his achievements here.
