Thinking of opening a Maybank gold Acc …. What’s the annual fees like and any transactional fees ? Or any other hidden charges ?
*
not sure if my advice will still be relevant, since i opened my MBB gold account 10 years back

AFAIK no commission, but you're just paying for the "spread" = price differences in Buying / Selling just like currency

you must have min of 1 gram in your gold account

hope it helps

Anyone bought the dip recently...
Good deal IMHO, purchased little late coz I only buy physical bullion.

Sharing latest experience getting physical during pandemic.

1) Call MBB branch if gold's in stock (can be out of stock)

2) Make an appointment for counter services.
https://www.maybank2u.com.my/page/appointment/
Sometimes impossible early date because appointments are booked weeks in advanced.

3) Managed to get an appointment and bought couple of coins.
First physical bullion buy for 2021.

Buying physical from Maybank is tricky because many moving parts need to align.

I don't see any charges in my MBB gold accounts.
Are you sure you want to take the risk keeping the physical gold as safekeeping?

There are two types of Maybank Gold account. One is Maybank Gold Investment Account (MGIA) and another is Maybank Islamic Gold Account (MIGA-i).

Different spreads. MGIA>MIGA-i

Fees: MGIA no fees, but minimum buy is 1g, while MIGA-i minimum purchase is RM10, and there is an agent fee up to 0.5% (waived till December 2021).

MIGA-i: You can set future buy/sell price. There is also a preferential price if you have RM20k inside. This feature is not available in MGIA.

Decided physical gold is best way to transport a portion of wealth into the future.
Holding long term, decades.

Convenience ETF provides doesn't weigh heavily for such straightforward plan.

Hi, as someone who has next to zero knowledge in gold investment, my eye finds the Maybank Islamic Gold Account (MIGA-i) as interesting. Did a little of reading, and thinking of investing about only RM1K in MIGA-i. I'm looking for long term investment (more than 10 years). Is there anything else I should know before investing with MIGA-i?

(Aug 30): Veteran investor Mark Mobius said investors should have 10% of a portfolio in gold as currencies will be devalued following the unprecedented stimulus rolled out to fight the coronavirus pandemic.

At this stage, “10% should be put into physical gold,” said Mobius, who set up Mobius Capital Partners after more than three decades at Franklin Templeton Investments. “Currency devaluation globally is going to be quite significant next year given the incredible amount of money supply that has been printed.”

Bullion rallied to a record last year as the coronavirus pandemic spurred a flight to haven assets but it’s pulled back since with the roll-out of vaccines. To fight the crisis, central banks and governments worldwide have unleashed an unprecendented wave of monetary and fiscal stimulus, boosting balance sheets at the Federal Reserve and elsewehere and straining state finances.

“It is going to be very, very good to have physical gold that you can access immediately without the danger of the government confiscating all the gold,” Mobius, a long-time fan of the metal, said in an interview.

Spot bullion, which traded at $1,816.16 an ounce, hit an all-time high above $2,075 about a year ago. Year-to-date, it’s shed more than 4%, while global stocks hold near a record and the Fed lays out a strategy to pare stimulus.

No plans to trade (buy sell) so paper gold don't make sense in my case.
Only selling decades down the road. Part of retirement stack.

Also physical gold helps to divest funds, outside of formal banks.
In cases of bankruptcy, LHDN case or government overreach, bank funds kena frozen game over sweat.gif

With physical gold I am my own bank nod.gif
