I used to spend a lot more for car audio, trying to get the best I can afford: US/Euro brand component speakers, HU, DSP, US brand power amps, multiple 12' subs also US brand stuff, Monster/Street Wire cables. But now I'm just not into it anymore. As long as I can still get loud powerful sound relatively clean to keep me company in the car especially during traffic jams, then it's enough already, not so much into getting the best SQ anymore. Furthermore now just listening to MP3 lossless stuff, so yeah SQ is not that important hence I'm not spending as much as well: HU combined with DSP, front component only use Kenwood, subs just use MBQ powered under seat ones made in China, cheap std cables, enough already now. smile.gif

Bro you must be very tired of audio after so many years. Looks like you just want to make some background noise. No more serious listening.

But then again. Car Hifi is so much more economical compare to home Hifi. One of the reason I started myself with something that can be listened. But again due to kids. Once I'm at home. I can no longer listen to music In the room. I got to do a lot of father things. But when Im at work. I can still enjoy good acceptable sound in the car.

I went inside the installer car to listen for the high end ICE 5 years ago, not very long, just 45 minutes inside his car.

He is a famous SQ audio installer located in Taman Impian Emas, Johor. He also was a judges for alot of SQ competition and took part in alot of SQ competition.

Front 3 way speakers, self modified A pillar speaker mount and door panel mount. That time only i know speaker mount can be modified like that. To be honest, i dun remember what brand was used for the speaker and amp, i just know the HU was highend Alpine HU, i dun know what model, but at the same league as Pioneer PR80S that time, tuned by Alpine sound processor.

Although i'm not install any part in his shop, but he still patiently told me all the SQ theory and let me get into his car (2003 Honda City Vtec) for audition. I can feel the soundstage, vocal and instrument positioning is so perfect in that car. The drum is projected from the stage that beyond the windscreen, the sub blend so well to the midbass driver in front that u won't even notice the sub was installed at the back of the car. Vocal was at the middle and front of your head. Overall i felt i was in front of a big stage and the singer was right in front of me. I sat 30 minutes in front, and 15 minutes at behind. The soundstage at behind was loss, but the sound still perfectly blend and balance, u won't know the sub is at the back of the seat at all. All the sound was come from front. Honestly i never experience this kind of soundstage and positioning in home setup. I'm not sure whether i have experience the high end ICE as you said or not.

Trust me after listened to it i swear i really poisoned by that, until today i never forget that feeling. If i have a car that can done so quietly when driving in Malaysia road until can differentiate the differences between CD and FLAC quality, why not install those high end stuff into the car? But i know practically is impossible, that's why i rather spend those money in home audio setup.

Bro all I can say. Is pros and cons in both home and car. But then again. It really point down to how many hours you are in a car. Vs at home. If you are more towards home. Then home is your place to enjoy. Well for me best system is at rs audio kepong with the brax system. But that you need an ahmad to enjoy the sound. You sit behind like a boss. But it's a freaking van.
The other one is dream audio andy's car. He no more there. That one was fantastic. I still can't find a car ice equivalent to a high end home stereo setup like a mbl. Or Goldmund or even German physik with sum audio setup.

I just wanna ask. Which brand speaker is the highest end money can buy in ice? Is it dynaudio? Brax? Scanspeak? Or is there any brand that is higher end than these that I mentioned? Can any sifu here share? I wanna have a chance to listen to such a setup.

now that you are on the same page:
- yes, you CAN have perfect (or at least NEAR PERFECT) quietness in a car. however, be prepared to be deaf to the outside environment, which may not always be a good thing (ambulance/bike/rempit passing through? cant hear? prepare to lose a side mirror or even a bad scratch)

- money, let's just say it won't be cheap to do a FULL CAR sound proofing/deadening.

- on the subject of money, let's just say compared to home, car is MUCH CHEAPER.

personally, i've been into car/headphones, and have a fucking rich relative into home hifi.
from expensive to cheap, easily home > car > headphones.

i'm sure you also know how some home hifi speaker (single, not plural, one fucking speaker) can cost 50-100k or more.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duntech
or mcintosh home hifi (again, the car versions are much cheaper, although by no means cheap in my book at least)

then, there's the FULL room renovation (yes, house renovation.) AND sound proofing and deadening that EASILY cost a few cars (b/c segment, say, 100-300k +++?) worth of price.

see where this is going in terms of scaling? lol.

Bro duntech is still a so so brand. Try Wilson audio. Focal. Karma audio. And many more. That's even more. Ever listen to a 10 mil dollar setup? That's hmm. Regardless of the music you put in. It just sound nice.

Well I suppose everyone has different preferences/level of how acceptable sound quality is. smile.gif I still seriously interested in listening to music (cannot fathom living without it really) but of course do not want to dedicate as much time and effort. To me, the audio I have in my car already acceptable enough for my ears, and I listen to loud rock music anyway. biggrin.gif True also like you I don't have time anymore to listen to music at home, so in the car is the time I mostly can listen to music.

IMO cd, quality is good no doubt but when I think about my car stereo, road quality and my reckless driving style, no I cant afford to buy the same cd again and again because it will damage sooner than keeping it its box, letting only digital copy out.

So not really about convenience but also maintainence hassle.

bro Sifu's, i want to ask about something i have been wondering.

I was wondering if the 80 PRS ( new one) can do 3 way system with a Sub?

I realise the network has 3 output. high. Mid and low.
There is also another Line out.

Has anyone tried if all the output works at one go? or the Line out will not have a signal.

I would also like to clarify another thing.

Anyone has used a Full range speaker before ? ( replacing the mid and tweeter ) Vs an actual 3 way?

what is the difference pro's and cons of each of these setup.

I recently got to listen to a RS 3 full range speaker. It sounds really nice. i was wondering if i could have options like this?

appreciate the input ......

iinm, the 80PRS u have to switch on the network crossover, should be located on the side or top of the HU chaisis. And the F,R and the other line out L,R will be..
F - Front High
R - Front Mid high
Output L/R: Front Low

and the sub will maintain sub. Not sure on this as i never used this player. Im running my X9533U a.k.a X890 excelon.

Regarding the full range speaker. I use to have a 3 way up front. if compared with the typical 2 way, i would have to say that 3 way has better soundstage, much clearer n bright detail. Used with positioning (time alignment) you could bring the vocals up to your dashboard as if the singer is singing in front of you at eye level sight (middle of your screen level). But when blast out loud, it suffers. Either the mids will sound fuzzy. Thats my personal experience. I dont have that much time playing 3 way upfront but i ever did used it before. Now im sticking to 2 way up front. Different people has different opinion. My best advice is to buy one and try.

Some shops are closing down. Very2 old audio accessories shop. So, i went around scouting. This particullar shop had very2 old Sony ES mobile players like XR-C900's, old alpines cd players, old kenwoods, they even had the MB Quart cd decks. That taukeh said nowadays youngsters dont appreciate these kind of players. Now all they want is USB pioneer for below RM400 types. As long it produces sound, they are ok with it. These players were here since early 2000 untill now cant even sell. Checked out the prices on it, very2 old fading price RM3k+ RM2k+. At first i was skeptical about the price too for a very2 old player still retain its price tag. So i took my time to rumble into the old cabinet of all those old2 players. My eye's caught on the KDC-X9533U @ KDC-X890. The price tag on it was unbelievable. RM2.1K. That old man just smiled and said RM500 for you adik, simpan pun susah. Straight grab!. Without doubts. And as i was still browsing around his shop, he had this orion amps. Freakingly long red amps glowing at the bottom pile. I took it and blew off the dust, It was in mint preserve condition. So i asked him if there is the box for this. Kesian also that old fella had to climb up to get the box so i stopped him from climbing and let me climb up. To my surprise there was a old pioneer processor too. It was a DQE-9200 where pioneer used the orion sign. I took it down too with the orion amp box. The orion box had its age out. But the parts was all inside. We hooked it up, sadly it did not turned on. Ok, put that aside, we tried the DEQ-9200. It was alive! i had my fingers crossed at that moment. So we tried to play around with it... Sadly a few buttons on the controller are dead too. Kesian also that apek saw his stuff alot died. So, tested again his Kenwood player, luckily this player was still functioning. Even the screen angle adjust is working fine, played some old chinese cd songs, it works! Took it at a price i cant resist. So i searched again and again. Came across some amps which i was attracted to. RD. What the hell was RD? I pulled it out. Flip to see the connectors, that was when something caught my eye again, i saw a PG logo. Could this be Phoenix Gold? Flip it again to the other side. Yup. Its Phoenix Gold. Checked the bottom part, Made in the U.S.A. Yup its a phoenix gold for sure. Took it out and layed it on his desk. Asked for the price, he took the box and gave it to me. I saw the price on the box fading away RM1840 for the 4 channel and RM1620 for the 2 channel. He gave it to me for RM1.2k for both. So i grabbed both amps and we had a chit chat. He explained, years and years ago. ICE industry was very good. Very possible for people spending RM10-20k just for ICE alone. At that time, buying power was still good. Even the cheapest cap ayam korea cd player cost RM700+. But now, look around. Not everyone comes in and appreciate these stuff. All they want is boom boom shake shake as long can open doors n trunk can shake enough. And some more, when stuff sells at RM1k, they start to ask for best price even tho the price he give to them is dirt cheap. Most people cant afford it, or want something cheap which could shake the car even tho it sounds crap. They use to have a RF vehicle using entirely RF punch ix stuff, morrel vehicle. Even their last customer build a RM40k ice in a honda oddesy. But now, it all fade away.

So, i think the reason for less people playing ice is the fluctuation in our economy and buying power. And another is the young generation dont appreciate good stuff and rather go for cheap stuff.

Sorry for the TL;DR
