I used to spend a lot more for car audio, trying to get the best I can afford: US/Euro brand component speakers, HU, DSP, US brand power amps, multiple 12' subs also US brand stuff, Monster/Street Wire cables. But now I'm just not into it anymore. As long as I can still get loud powerful sound relatively clean to keep me company in the car especially during traffic jams, then it's enough already, not so much into getting the best SQ anymore. Furthermore now just listening to MP3 lossless stuff, so yeah SQ is not that important hence I'm not spending as much as well: HU combined with DSP, front component only use Kenwood, subs just use MBQ powered under seat ones made in China, cheap std cables, enough already now.

Well I suppose everyone has different preferences/level of how acceptable sound quality is. I still seriously interested in listening to music (cannot fathom living without it really) but of course do not want to dedicate as much time and effort. To me, the audio I have in my car already acceptable enough for my ears, and I listen to loud rock music anyway. True also like you I don't have time anymore to listen to music at home, so in the car is the time I mostly can listen to music.
