Ai say .. using 0W-30 instead of the recommended 0W-20 for a modern turbocharged Japanese car in a hot climate like Malaysia is generally considered a safe choice for enhanced engine protection and longevity. the trade off is a small rise in gas consumption. saw a few videos on youtube also support the above. Any expert insights welcome . |

QUOTE(Momo33 @ Oct 21 2025, 11:48 AM) Ai say .. Quite true but always check own car manual to see the EO range allowed.using 0W-30 instead of the recommended 0W-20 for a modern turbocharged Japanese car in a hot climate like Malaysia is generally considered a safe choice for enhanced engine protection and longevity. the trade off is a small rise in gas consumption. saw a few videos on youtube also support the above. Any expert insights welcome . If u use 0-20, must change freq shorter interval around 5-6k km ok cuz it's too thin n very like like breakdown.its more for fuel efficiency. Like my case after 115k km I jump to 5-30w to hv better protection Momo33 liked this post

Like my case after 115k km I jump to 5-30w to hv better protection if really that concerned, use those oil that states extended performance (mobil1 EP or Castrol EP)....i've been running 0w20 since warranty over for more than 6 years (about 100k km worth out of total mileage of about 180k km) without problems and sometimes driving above 10k km oil change cycle and on traffic that includes both high speed highway and traffic crawl (50/50 basis) further, it is based on not using the same brand/range of oil during oil change (used before : mobil1 esp/mobil 1 EP/mannol/total/kixx/syntium 7000 dme/bold/kaito/shell helix ultra/liqui moly/valvoline synpower/toyota oil, etc; all 0w20 except for toyota oil) the only difference is that i don't use the original filter but fram tough guard (probably 1 grade better quality as it is for extended mileage use) the one that need to really worry a little more is fuel dilution if idle too long in stop/start traffic crawl or cold start short distance driving This post has been edited by wkc5657: Oct 21 2025, 04:49 PM |

QUOTE(wkc5657 @ Oct 21 2025, 04:44 PM) er....why need shorter interval when the manual states can use xw20? H 1.5t ,faces alot oil dilution and yes I OCD with oil change bout 5k/3mths or lesser during the warranty period also with 0-20, now after warranty tryin out the 5-30 by next 2-3mths.if really that concerned, use those oil that states extended performance (mobil1 EP or Castrol EP)....i've been running 0w20 since warranty over for more than 6 years (about 100k km worth out of total mileage of about 180k km) without problems and sometimes driving above 10k km oil change cycle and on traffic that includes both high speed highway and traffic crawl (50/50 basis) further, it is based on not using the same brand/range of oil during oil change (used before : mobil1 esp/mobil 1 EP/mannol/total/kixx/syntium 7000 dme/bold/kaito/shell helix ultra/liqui moly/valvoline synpower/toyota oil, etc; all 0w20 except for toyota oil) the only difference is that i don't use the original filter but fram tough guard (probably 1 grade better quality as it is for extended mileage use) the one that need to really worry a little more is fuel dilution if idle too long in stop/start traffic crawl or cold start short distance driving |

QUOTE(wkc5657 @ Oct 21 2025, 04:44 PM) er....why need shorter interval when the manual states can use xw20? Im similar like you regarding the oil viscosity of 0w20, my car manual mentioned that, and no issues whatsoever from new till now, 250k km. Always heard this oil will had eating issues whatsoever above 150k km, but from my usage of oil change every 10k km (sometimes 12k km cz busy outstation), oil remain at max level for service. if really that concerned, use those oil that states extended performance (mobil1 EP or Castrol EP)....i've been running 0w20 since warranty over for more than 6 years (about 100k km worth out of total mileage of about 180k km) without problems and sometimes driving above 10k km oil change cycle and on traffic that includes both high speed highway and traffic crawl (50/50 basis) further, it is based on not using the same brand/range of oil during oil change (used before : mobil1 esp/mobil 1 EP/mannol/total/kixx/syntium 7000 dme/bold/kaito/shell helix ultra/liqui moly/valvoline synpower/toyota oil, etc; all 0w20 except for toyota oil) the only difference is that i don't use the original filter but fram tough guard (probably 1 grade better quality as it is for extended mileage use) the one that need to really worry a little more is fuel dilution if idle too long in stop/start traffic crawl or cold start short distance driving Rather spend more for oil brand that come with Ester based formulated or PAO + Ester |
