Hi all,

This is not a question about engine oil per se, but related to it. My Honda service center recommends to use engine oil flushing (by Liqui Moly) every 10K KM.

I just read the FAQ in the North American Honda webpage, which strongly recommends against the use of engine oil flushing products, and it may void the engine warranty.

Honda Malaysia page is silent about this though... So what do you guys think? Should I? Or shouldn't I? Thanks!
*
I beg ur pardon, can I know ur car is?

Which Honda SC have u been through which suggests the oil flushing?

I have experienced with Bandar Baru Bangi, Setia Alam, Semenyih and Kajang Honda Service center. Not even once suggest for engine oil flushing.

Only one they suggest me to change the gear oil earlier than stated in the book, 40k km vs book 50k km.

Please check ur book/ website for car maintenance required

I'm not lol. Because just bought the Persona (second-hand car). And upon inspection the ATF oil is dirty as hell. So wanted to take the best for first service. But at least now I feel better knowing money is well spent?hahaha

The proton SP III is cheap but not synthetic right?

How bout this?

http://www.lazada.com.my/pennzoil-multi-ve...l-14163881.html

Is this ok for my Persona?
*
Original proton atf baru rm25/liter. But it mineral based. For atf better take original spec

has been using this atf for a few years, on 2 cars of different brand but specify sp3 as atf..... both cars still very happy and healthy

1st is elantra 2010, (4speed) using this pennzoil mv atf for 40k km previous and this round 41k km.... no problem at all.... now thinking to drag service further since atf still like new after 41k km, maybe due to the lubegard..... but unsure any of the additive depletion level due to use/age

2nd is saga blm, been using for 20k km... also looks like new like above and with lubegard...this pennzoil or maybe the lubegard solved the mildly rough 1->2nd gear change on this blm when engine/gearbox is cold

feel that this pennzoil is better than ori mitsu sp3 from thailand as tested on elantra.

also as a matter of habit... i flush the atf everytime during change, not drop-n-top.
*
The rough transition from gear 1 to gear 2 in proton during cold engine is similar to waja mitsu engine.

Usually then problems is less when change gear oil. But after a while it turns back.

No experience on fully Synthetic atf oil since other car have to stick with warranty services

QUOTE(Hexane @ Feb 5 2017, 10:46 PM)
hello sifus and all. i wanna ask something, im driving a honda insight 2011 model. currently using honda engine oil fully synthetic 0w-30 with hamp oil filter but planning to change to other alternatives

im planning to get bosch 5w30 fully synthetic and use bosch honda oil filter while im at it

the reason im asking is because honda insight is a hybrid and suggested 0w-20 but all 0w-20 is damn expensive with suggested 5000km usage by honda due to our climate. if every 5000-6000km change the 0w-20 honda oil, thats a bit too much. thats why im using the 0w-30 currently, pushing it to 10,000km

just so happened i know someone who accidentally got his insight oil changed to Liqui Moly 10w-40 MoS2 last time. he said nothing feels wrong or different. every feels the same - the consumption, smoothness and even the pomen said the engine looks just as clean when he changed after around 6800km

so i was thinking. if the 0w-20 is suggested only for morning startup and fuel saving. i might as well go for 5w30 as its not much of a difference in usage and protection wise should even be better

not sure if my logic is good or not, need advice from sifus. and oh another question, is it okay for me to try and get 11,000-12,000km on my current EO and filter? i drive the honda insight at 1,000-2,000rpm cruising with max 4,000rpm when overtaking oni. doing around 4,000km per month
*
Mine is accord 2015, 2.4 engine also use the 0w 20 but with 10k km interval as per service booklet

I've used Mobil 1 5w50 FS from Tesco during promo (<rm150) and also bought from a workshop at normal high price (rm220+). I can tell you there's absolutely no difference whatsoever for me! So I concluded that I got chopped for over rm70/btl if I buy at workshops, hence never again.
*
Suggest u to use 5w30 or 5w40. As 50 is too weight for daily use I assume. Unless every day redline drive

Yes tesco offer better since less chance for fake engine oil

I own a 2011 city. I usually buy my own engine oil and atf separately from an auto parts shop and bring it to the workshop. I get the semi 5-30w for rm80 while atf is about rm25 I think. I'll need about 3-4 bottle of atf per change. Oil filter is rm15. All before gst.

Labour is only rm15 per oil type change. Done together is rm25.

I live in setapak. Auto shop is in setapak. All products are the same that honda sc use.
*
Goodidea. Hopefully the auto shop can guarantee its products is 100% original.
There are plenty of fake or recycled engine oil outside.

Some ways to prevent it is by buying it at sc (expensive since some using retail price) or buy at tesco during offer. Get mine at tesco shell fully Synthetic 5w-40 at 129rm. Last time also bought mitsubishi fully Synthetic 5w-40 at jusco balakong, clearance sales at rm99

Please dont do flush. Go to better engine oil. Fully Synthetic 5w-40 or 5w-30 will be good.

My guess is Amsoil is a better bet than Motul coz I never heard any bad reviews on Amsoil ever and they have the highest TBN values which means they should last the longest too. Some tests I read in the web also always came out good and few in our car clubs already using for a long time without any complaints whatsoever. So yeah, if you have the budget for such high-end oil then go for Amsoil.
Wow, that's a pretty good deal!
Tesco also got 4L bottle for Shell and other oils.
*
Tesco price is 129-149rm for shell 5w-40 (during promo). Got also Mobil 1 5w-50 sometimes and Total 5L 5w-50 iinm.

I used 0w20 on insight FL until it gave problem....now using 5w40...

Honda Malaysia do suggest few its car model to use honda 0W-20 for fuel efficiency reason.

Even honda accord 2.4 use this oil as per booklet recommendations . Yeah can also upgrade to 0W-30 as well

You are right, API SL is long outdated. But many car makers still specify “API SL & above” as engine oil requirement.
API rating is just a  tag.
The fact is, the oil itself may already far exceed API SN requirements, just that the manufacturer didn't submit application.
sometimes, an API SL/SM could be better than an API SN oil. There is no certainty.
*
hahaha
better buy any tesco promo engine oil, rm129-139 can get Shell helix fully synthetic with SN. brows.gif

Hi all, is there an 'expiry date' on balance of unused EO in bottle ?

If EO has no 'expiry date', then what's the longest time frame can it be in an open bottle to be used, before 1 has to throw it away ?
*
Engine oils have an expiry date after which the performance levels that they offer can no longer be guaranteed. ... You are probably wondering if you can still use cans of oil which seems old: the oil is usable as long as it is sealed, stored in a cool dry location and no water or dirt has gotten in the bottles.

RM131.45 for a semi-synth oil, and that is after 20% discount. shocking.gif  blink.gif  blink.gif  Really? Assuming that price is for 4litres, so it would yield rm32-33/litre.

with that price you can get branded fully synth oil from lazada, delivered right to your doorstep, instead of something that neither here nor there.

Shell helix 5W-40 Fully Synthetic from Tesco rack at RM129. Much2 better oil than that max oil thingy
