These are some of the high ISO test shots on my A7S. All shot at ISO 12800! The graded one was to bring up shadows to see how much details we can get hiding there. The DR and details on high ISO is simply unbelievable. All are direct JPG out of the camera, except for the graded pic done with RAW file.

QUOTE(edpaul @ Sep 2 2014, 01:15 AM) dont we all overspend on this crazy hobby? haha~ buy and sold XE1+35F1.4... was fun and crazy to play natural light on high iso, but the AF drives me crazy... and @Eiraku @Yok70here's my 2 cent. if you think fuji are mushy, Sony NR are even more mushy. the CZ vs fuji is 'give and take', CZ is known for their micro contrast, give details in gradient area, but in return, u get a much noisier look on high iso (end up mushy from NR). where fuji are very good in lowlight and good iso handling, in return they take away the contrast and making it pretty flat tone. but jump FF to FF wont save you money, they will make you spend as much as any other FF system. the camera body may be cheaper, but all the lens are still drills a big hold in your wallet. even the way you said "equivalent" from the comparison between the two body/lens combo arent fair at all. both totally different thing, giving diff angle of view, although give you nearly the same field of view. but if you asked directly A7+35F2.8 vs A6000+24F1.8. i'd say, spend less with A6k+24z and use the left over for a family trip/or solo backpack and snap more nice photo. you enjoy more with money spend on traveling then buying expensive gears. Thank you for all the feedback! Yes indeed we all overspend on gear, but I have a unique opportunity to actually gain a net profit from selling my current FF gear, so I considered going all the way to just save money. The thing about Fuji is that they 'cheat' on their ISO, albeit unintentionally. Basically what happens is that if you took a X-T1 and an A6k and shoot a scene with the same amount of light available for both cameras (let's say x EV worth of light) and set them both on ISO 6400, you would need to set a longer shutter speed on the X-T1 with all other factors being equal (aperture and ISO). For the same shutter speed and ISO, your aperture value would have to change as well. So comparing ISO 6400 to ISO 6400 is pointless in this case since ISO is a relative value. I'm pretty sure that ISO 3200 on the A6k would not match ISO 6400 on the X-T1 though. And yeah one "weakness" that I've observed about FF in general is that if you want more DoF for say, group shots, you'll have to close down the aperture quite significantly (even f4 doesn't seem to be enough for some group shots), hence reducing the amount of light that can enter the sensor, hence requiring you to bump the ISO. On APSC, you can probably get decent group shots with DoF at around f 3.5-f4 ish, which wouldn't require you to bump the ISO that much. While I really like f1.4 on FF, I rarely get to use it since it's so hard to nail focus anyway haha. And Sony's lens lineup is pretty pathetic. Anyhow, I AM aiming for a one lens solution, so lens selection isn't an issue to me. I'd get the X100s or something, but I've had bad experiences with Fuji, and depending on how their new rumored 24MP sensor will work, I'm pretty sure I'm going sony if what you say about its ISO performance is true. And yes, I've went to Sony shops a few times to hold on to and test out the A6k and the A7. I definitely prefer the EVF on my old X-T1, but meh they're both good enough. The a6k looks the ugliest IMO, but it feels the most compact. |

I don't know about the A6000, but each time my "daily driver" is back in APS-C I feel the tonality difference. Now that every line has a full-frame option I won't need to go to APS-C again if it's the only thing that offers a technological upgrade.
My interchangeable mount camera history: A100 - A700 - A900(FF) - NEX-5 - A55 - A77 - A99(FF) - A7S(FF) |

More randomness while having dinner:
![]() Seriously, the one advantage of the APS-C Alpha CSC line (the A6k included) has got to be the ultra compact size... I can lug this little guy anywhere. Especially when I compare it with my old A200. Even my old Nikon FG was bigger than the A6k... due to the FF (film) coverage lenses - which will in the end be the main problem with FF mobility. It's wierd how Leica glass does FF and is still so tiny thoug That said, MFT is even smaller but I prefer APS-C - it's a nice middle ground sensor size without having to go full FF (and the increase of lens size that comes with it). QUOTE(babyploy86 @ Sep 2 2014, 10:48 PM) It would change, but not as much as you'd think. The QX1 is still too flimsy and cumbersome to be a primary device. The price would put it out of the reach of normal folks as well (unless it's priced below the a3000).That said, I really would like to buy one as a backup body to my A6k - I mean, it uses the same lenses and batteries plus it's barely as big as a prime lens. Mobility wise it should be better than carrying 2 bodies right? If you can use an Alpha camera to remote control the QX1 it would be even sweeter lol.
