Hey guys wanna ask how's Acer's monitor, do they really break down after a year or two after use as other forumers here say?

I bought an Acer XV270p June last year, got a replacement unit due to power issue (after switching off PC the monitor will not go to sleep/ standby mode, display will flash whole night until the next morning unless you switch the power off)

And then the replacement unit I got also have the same issue so I decided to live with it  doh.gif  (So maybe my first unit is totally fine.. just design flaw or something)

Then another half a year passed, the entire bottom panel starts flickering.. I did some diagnostic and found either the DP port or the monitor is faulty because it's fine with HDMI..

I then carried the monitor to service center to diagnose and to fix, got the same response that they cannot fix and will replace new unit for me.. Reason because parts phased out lol. Maybe it is really a design flaw so they discontinued.
They offered me to:
1. Top up RM300 for xv271Z. 280hz nitro monitor.
2. Top up RM350 for xv272up. 2k 144hz nitro monitor

Or swap to: (no charges)
3. ED320QRP (32" VA 144hz curve)
4. VG271S (similar spec with XV270P but non height adjustable)

I went for the VG271S as I am actually happy with my previous unit and I use VESA mount so with or without the adjustable stand makes no difference.

Now I wonder if I should sell and look for other monitors.. Scared and tired of going to the service center and waiting for weeks  sweat.gif

Not a fanboyism post but this is the exact reason why I've always gone for Dell when it comes to monitor purchases. I've had a similar experience with LG and Acer monitors in the past. Dell support so far has been outstanding with 1-to-1 exchange at your location. They bring the panel come, swap with you, no questions asked. Minimal downtime.

Just buy from Dell if possible, or buy from authorized distributors and verify their unit is Dell Malaysia unit.

Thanks for sharing.. I am indeed leaning more towards Dell now.. Even though paying slightly premium I think it will be worth it for a peace of mind. Btw, is LG like that too? If not mistaken they manufacturer themselves right? I'd expect not much problem coming from them.. shocking.gif

They don't have a direct sales channel here so the warranty still has to go through retailers (All IT etc). Can take a few weeks.

My take is this:
Critical workflow requires screen uptime: Dell.
Budget: Prism. The features are hard to beat if you're not the fussy kind. (Their warranty hmm ... don't really like it, 3 dark, 5 bright)

Also buy from Dell directly if possible for easier warranty procedures in the future. See my experience when I try to be smart to save RM 500: https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=4960123&hl=
Use shopback.

Just sharing an experience here.
Recently bought Dell G3223D from Dell, shipped within 2 days.
Then detected 1 bright pixel.

Send email to Dell.
approved warranty in 24 hours.
Dell policy is we replace even if you detect 1 bright pixel.

Haha I actually experienced really good after-sales service with acer despite what I see many forumers here say.
I had a problem with my laptop and they fixed it for me right away (less than a week i think?)
So I guess tbh it depends on whether you really like the products of the brand or not, don't just switch because of that one factor. Cheers!

Ya bro I do agree with you.
Maybe depends on luck also.. Like for my case diagnose or repair takes quite long already.
Once they inform you to swap to other models then you'll need to start the waiting game again sweat.gif
I'm still using my standby monitor and my eyes hurt downgrading to a old monitor hahahaha tongue.gif

Just purchase Asus TUF Gaming 27" VG27AQ 2560x1440 monitor for my laptop. smile.gif

The build is very solid, SDR output is great with pretty decent contrast but this display HDR is not good as it is only 8 bit panel and not support wide color gamut.

I think Acer is based on luck, our company had purchase few and some do facing issue within 1/2 year. So now we no longer pick this brand.

Hi all.

I am looking for a 2nd monitor, being used as a horizontal monitor.
27 inch.
WQHD (2560 x 1440).
Not for gaming.

Ideally, it should come with a stand that allows me to pivot or rotate it 90 degrees because I don't want to get a separate VESA stand or arm.

Is it possible to get it at around RM1,000?

I saw some Dell monitors that meet this requirement but it is around RM1,300, which I think is pricey for such specifications because if I top it up another RM200-300, I could get a 4k monitor.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

A good monitor not means resolution only. It depends on many condition. Also 4K not means it is good. I find QHD is basically the best for Windows with size not more than 27" (34" and 49" is in this range just wider).

Agree. I like your advice.
I understand that you don't go for value monitors. So I guess you also consider HDR, brightness, number of ports, ports version etc?
For my case, i am looking for a budget monitor of that specs. Since there are many factors, I had to prioritize certain specs (the ones I listed) as my basic requirements and also for comparison, if there are extra bells and whistles.

For 2560x1440 in 144hz, as long DP is at least version 1.2 then nothing to worried. Version is important to be consider as lower version cannot run 144hz due to bandwidth issue, but this also need to make sure you GPU support it.

For budget, you may ignore HDR feature as it is not going to work better than SDR, and for SDR brightness, basically all monitor is ok.

For budget I will only consider DP version (1.2 min) or HDMI (2.0 min), either one is ok if your GPU got either support.
Unless you only plan to run as 60hz, then basically you no need to worried on DP and HDMI version for 2560x1440 resolution.
If your GPU or laptop HDMI is version 1.4, then you can only run 2560x1440 at 60hz max.

Second I will consider whether the panel is IPS or not, or at least a good VA panel. TN is always out for me especially those very cheap monitor if TN panel, then the output will be very bad and washout.

That it, others factor I won't consider for value monitor.

Below video explain a lot what should check when purchasing a monitor.

Dell will always drop the price of S2721DS(rm979)/SE2723DS(rm839?) alternate week. keep an eye on that.

i bought S2721DS(rm979) + 4% discount + rm18.99 cashback on end of april.

but lead-time is around 1month at the moment, given a call by dell that ETA is end of MAY.

if can wait, can check them out.
