so are you talking about your self or you talking on behalf of all the local grads here?

there are 2 types of local uni.
1.local uni with local degree
2.local uni with overseas degree

but in my opinion its the same thing coz the environment (working, training, studying environment)that you have exposed are still local. unless you got twinninig on your final in overseas uni.that will make a different interms of exposure to different environment.

It is not the matter of local uni or overseas grad or local uni local degree or local uni overseas degree thing. College/Uni is the place for you to know yourself, especially in which part of the course are you more interested in. You'll need to pick out what that can be applied to working life and what's only for the finals. If you've just graduated, too bad, you might get stuck not knowing what you wanna do or how the course benefits you at all.

Yeah we suck. Our Civil Engineering graduates build low quality buildings, roads, and public facilities at very low cost and cheated off customers money. Our Computer Science/IT graduates cannot do programming and cheated of professional exams like MCSE and CCNA. Our doctors get the lowest wage compares to Thailand (this is one a joke).

Yet, you foreign university graduates especially from Japan and other yellow countries forget that we speak English or Malay here and need to re-learn the language hehehe.

I had an interview in PJ today. We chat a lot during the interview. The interviewer said most of the fresh graduate from local U and kolej nowadays can't meet the requirement from the market. What they learn can't implemented in company. The interviewer quite confused with my degree.

I'm graduated from UKM with a degree of Computer and Communication Engineering, but I found that it's quite hard for me to get a job now. There got several questions I can't answer, maybe u can help me...

Am I Telecommunication Engineer?
I didn't learn RF and radio network design, just briefly know about GSM/WCDMA...

Am I Computer Engineer?
There's no programming language is offered such as MS SQL, Java, Perl, Oracle...

Am I Network Engineer?
I know nothing about router, switch, LAN, WAN...

Am I EE Engineer?
I didn't learn more about CMOS, VHDL, Verilog...
Who Am I? rclxub.gif

Computer and Communication ... it should be related to computer networking right? ... How come you can not knowing about router, switch, LAN and WAN etc?

Unless your computer and communication are somekinda talking to your computer technique ... ??? Like how to use Skype.

it depends on the individual, but recently its true that many IPTA graduates can't secure a job, mostly due to their courses syllabus that are not competitive in the market, and the IPTA's reputation have dropped drastically which makes employee less confident in IPTA grads

chances from major universities like UM, UPM and UKM are higher than that from public kolej universiti, where all "weird" courses are offered, I have a secondary sch friend that re taking Sains Perhutanan, judging by the name, I dont have the idea on what sector can he work in when he graduate

Maybe he should try jobstreet's job-matching thingy, which i find to be utter rubbish. Grad in Business IT but the idiotic function keep on pairing my resume to sales job, which I hate n despised the most.. WTF.

Actually you should change the topic. First you got yourself confused on your degree, now you got the topic confused as well. Since you are asking what type of engineer you are, what does that have to do with local grads being sucky? About the comment by the interviewer, what he say might be true. It all depends on the individual's effort to pick up extra knowledge/interest along his college/uni life. But still I believe most of us local grads can outspeak n outdo foreign grads.

Well my point is to correct ur assumption.(if u assuming that)

It not the same as what the thread poster taking.
He's taking Computer and communication engineering. That will be what he study for the whole 4 years in UKM.

Where in UTP, we only take it in final year. 4 subjects only(electives to be precise).
Whoever took "Computer Systems Engineering" and/or "Communications Systems" still an Electrical & Electronics engineering student(major).
IMO, using this to compare with that is not that "approriate".
*
sorry, my situation also same as UTP grad. For 1st 3 years, I study about EE thing, then final year choose to major in telecommunication.

no, there's no course about router, switch is offered. now, i just start self study CCNA. Too late, too pathetic...

in final years, i choose:
1. Radio and Satellite Communication
2. Telecommunication Network
3. Optical Communication
4. Operating System

But just to answer the question above about

LOCAL GRAD= SUCKS.

The answer is a BIG "NO" from me. It depends a lot on individual. I would say that those that enter through Form 6 are good. Give local grads a chance, they dont have rich parents who can send them overseas but they sure work their arses off since form 6.
*
Yup..

Not all local graduates suxx...it's all depends on the individual himself...he must learn the new stuff and cannot depend on his theory lesson learnt during his time at the university..IT World is rapidly changing all the time, new things will come out in a short time unlike many other industries...

To apply for a job, a fresh grad should look wat his future employers wanted with their workers...let's say an ABC company is looking for a System Enginneer with a knowledge in Cisco system so the fresh grad must go and learnt the basics or take professional certificates to enhance his knowledge first and not go and apply for the job blindly..or you surely will get 'STUCK' during the interviews..happened to me a few times and i've learned my lesson biggrin.gif

One of my best friend also taking Sains Perhutanan in UPM biggrin.gif

With Sains Perhutanan, you can become a geologist, 'hutanlogist' or perhaps become a forest ranger biggrin.gif

Local or non local is same, Once you start study it up to the individual how you going to study.

Ask your self are you study for cert or knowledge

Local or non local is totally NOT THE SAME ... just like kampung and city

agree with individual how you going to study, but the course they provide and teaching aid and what you can see is totally different ... not only studying ... WORKING AS well .. NON LOCAL technology is not LOCAL can catch up ... in a short time .... EDUCATION as well....

Company want to see you degree ... after they take you ... you need to show out how much "water" you have ... or maybe ... you can hide in the MNC for few yrs... that good

Sometimes this is the purpose of the interviewer, they asking lots of (technical)things that the fresh grads do not know. If they know what is it its a plus, otherwise they can see how you respone to those though question, and clearly know how confidence you are.

As long as they asked you come for an interview you stand a change to score the job. Actually everybody need to learn new things for a fresh job, therefore it is very important to know your level of confidence and your willingness to keep on learning to complete your task.
