I had an interview in PJ today. We chat a lot during the interview. The interviewer said most of the fresh graduate from local U and kolej nowadays can't meet the requirement from the market. What they learn can't implemented in company. The interviewer quite confused with my degree.

I'm graduated from UKM with a degree of Computer and Communication Engineering, but I found that it's quite hard for me to get a job now. There got several questions I can't answer, maybe u can help me...

Am I Telecommunication Engineer?
I didn't learn RF and radio network design, just briefly know about GSM/WCDMA...

Am I Computer Engineer?
There's no programming language is offered such as MS SQL, Java, Perl, Oracle...

Am I Network Engineer?
I know nothing about router, switch, LAN, WAN...

Am I EE Engineer?
I didn't learn more about CMOS, VHDL, Verilog...

You should know what you have learned during university and exploit it to your advantage.
not everyone learn everything during thier degree studies.
Who are you?
only you can answer that question, not us.

Your degree is quite similar to mine.

1st question: I did learn basic EM theory, analogue and digital communcations.

2nd question: I did learn about basic SQL, IBM DB2 as my elective. J2ME and J2SE are self learning. Other programming includes C and assembly language.

3rd question: I did learn basic data communcation and computer networking.

4th question: I did learn about electronics, circuit theory and digital logics.

Hhmn..the title of your degree does indeed sound confusing. Anyway what job did u apply? If your results are good you can always say that the university gives you the environment to have the trained mind to think ahead of normal workers.

It's not strange. I think UTP also got such course. A combination of Computer and Communcation Engineering but it's still an electronics degree.

Alright. To clear the confusion, list down the subjects you took during university in your resume. This is for interviewer reference

Did you bring along your full result transcript? Well, as for me, I did bring that along and attach it with my resume.

But just to answer the question above about

LOCAL GRAD= SUCKS.

The answer is a BIG "NO" from me. It depends a lot on individual. I would say that those that enter through Form 6 are good. Give local grads a chance, they dont have rich parents who can send them overseas but they sure work their arses off since form 6.

It's impossible for you to know everything. I think instead of questioning what you don't have; you should proudly announce what you have that can help him in his company.

It's true that you can't know everything but at least, you should convince them what you have learnt before. At least, they won't accuse you and you should defend it. It's not that easy to refresh what you have learnt during your first or second year unless you did some preparation on them.

JOb search is not about which uni/col local or overseas it is all about you yourself

thou some MNC have preferance towards some graduates from certain Uni but down the road it is more on your performance during interview

they are still local fresh grad getting a better pay than oversea grad, I heard alot of oversea grad still searching for jobs.... on the other hand i don't deny that overseas gard had better exposure

So till the end it is all about you

Then what did you learn?

Sucky people are everywhere, where you graduate from does not really matter.
