yup
the DLink router wifi rosak so i put a TP-link (crap product) AP
ping time to AP from 4ms to 100ms
ping to router oso similar
but ping to google.com damn teruk ... like 200+ ms to 3000+ ms
last last week still ok, just this few days connection like sh*t .. open whatever also slow, even 3g is much faster
i can't even view/send a picture from LINE if using unifi ... haih
*
It seems to me it is a wireless interference problem. I have used D-Link & TP-Link before and both also encounter same problem - the ping time can go as high as 1000ms or more, and perhaps even timeout.

I am not sure if the Mi router is compatible with UniFi anyway.

Currently I am using Asus RT-N12HP (HP = high power, with 9dBi 38cm long antennas). So far so good but I only use wireless for smartphones. For laptops & PCs I go for HomePlug instead.

Is there any UniFi promotion on now? Thinking of applying for it, just wondering where's the best place to apply. Would I be getting the best deal if I apply online through their website?

Well, if you stay in a high-rise condo with so many interfering neighbor access points, the performance may not be optimum once you are like 5m away from the access point. That's the limitation of wireless technology anyway.

ah.....high density... yes, not same as houses.

can try changing wifi channels... 1 to 11 available, see which one is best...

and... did you consider getting dual band router to use 5ghz instead of 2.4ghz router cum homeplugs?
users say that is very effective for high density condo wifi users.

Hi guys,

I've got a problem with my unifi modem. The modem shows 3 lights. And the "earth" light turns to orange. I'm able to connect to my unifi but it says limited access. My neighbour's unifi working fine while mine is not.

The problem started last friday, when I was browsing FB and watched some streams. Is there any ways to solve this? It's been 3 days already.

modem or router, orange light is no good.

try switching off everything, check cable connects all good, wait 20 secs. turn on again, see if good.

if no good, still orange light(s) or no light, call unifi to reset/refresh. that usually works unless u hv hardware failure.

I've done everything you said. The result is still the same. I.. I just hard reseted my modem and now the orange light turns green but "wifi/line" light symbol got no light. I'm not sure if I just done something terrible.. Lol.

Edit: Modem is the one not working. Router seems fine.

changing channels do help sometimes, but the problem is I have this neighbor with signals about the same strength as mine has his channel set to auto and occupying 40MHz channel width. So it all depends. I have set my channel to 1, 20MHz width, and if he is on any channel from 6 to 13 then my Wi-FI works better. But the moment he is only channel 1 to 5, my speed will be affected unless I am within 3 metres from the access point.

5GHz higher frequency hence shorter range. I used to use TP-Link WDR4300 but unfortunately as the master room where I spend most of my time at is some 7m away from the point I place the access point, the signal gets weakened. On top of that, my laptop does NOT have 5GHz but my phone has.

So I have resorted to the usage of direct Ethernet cable when possible, e.g. a laptop and a smart TV box that I place at the living room which is close enough to the router, while laptops/desktop computers at the rooms will connect via Ethernet + HomePlug.

Wireless is only used for mobile devices such as smartphones, and also for visitors/guests (when they do pay me a visit) to connect their devices to. For this, the Asus RT-N12HP helps providing stronger signals in the master room compared to the TP-Link WDR4300, due to this router uses 9dBi high power antennas. Basically I get a much stronger & stabler connection, but suffers from slower speed due to interference from the neighbor.

in that case, dun waste time. call unifi, report and see when they will send someone to check.
if modem failed, dun worry - you get free replacement under unifi warranty for lifetime.

Hey sifus,

I bought a router when I was overseas and was hoping I could use it with unifi.
Any idea if my Billion BiPAC 7800NL (link) will work with Unifi?

Guys, is it worth it taking the VIP10 over VIP5? Additional RM 50 monthly, but the fee for mega or sports pack worth RM50 per month is free right? Is the 10mbps speed close to as advertised?

normally, if u go straight to vip10, rm199 w/o mega or sports pack, need to pay rm50 to get.
mega/sports pack comes foc only for vip5 upgrade to vip10 after 2 yrs contract.
or vip5 contract over, upgrade to vip10 for rm169/179 w/o mega/sports pack when they call.
if u can get straight vip10 rm199 with foc mega/sports pack, i say worth it, go for it.

performance... for me, good, even better after replacing the cheap router (1 yr warranty).
keep the modem as it is life time warranty.

here, more or less i always get this, wifi 50ft, location shah alam:

Yeah they have a promotion on now I think where the sports/mega pack is free for VIP10 and above. Think I'll go for that. Now should I get the mega or sports pack. Probably sports since it has BPL.
