That's er my biggest scruple when it comes to purchasing a guitar,
especially if it looks to nice like an art display
i'd be spraying perfume on it and wipe it with cloth every single day baybe! (true story)
its kinda hard to find the middling kind of guitar that looks sweet but you know, ages well espeially if you frequent lug it around to jam studios (which i don;t do that muh anymore).
maybe a les paul would do, but eh i hate the shape lols.

Tool on a classic rock station? They still do that? Wow.. biggrin.gif

Sometime during the nurock era, I used to collect videos from the top 10 billboard modern rock tracks, no youtube back then. nowadays those on the list aren't even rock songs, kind of a joke really.

Still have the Staind CD somewhere..

if u been keeping track of the local scene here long enough u would know its not random.
lots of controversies from even the 2000s, and the media blew it all out of proportion also...from malay to english media...all taking potshots at it.
u read stuff like burning qurans, pledging allegiance to satan, human sacrifices...

Yup, so it sounds balanced, try to make sure the space between string and pole piece itself not too near or far as well

If that's the case, what could I do to resolve this? Definitely not a good balance, too much volume variations on each string. sweat.gif

Yeah I think I should've gotten the F-spacing one. I thought F-spacing is just for Floydrose and Floydrose only.

P-rails are awesome, variety of tones. But finding the sweet spot might take some time. But then again, maybe that's because of the wrong spacing. cry.gif

guess u found out the hard way that the f is actually fender.
just a coincidence that floyd rose also f...

maybe try diff narrower saddles if can to reduce the space? but too much hassle, better just sell them off and buy proper f-space.

Wait. F-space is the term used by DiMarzio only. SD uses trembucker or something like that for the same thing.

I guess trem = Tremolo = Vintage trem on strat = Same string spacing on Tele = Bla bla bla I'm still Fked-up.

just installed the tonezone into my guitar.

its regular spacing so the poles are not aligned properly.
i didnt notice any volume drop between the strings

lil less output compared to stock dimarzio/ibz and no moar ear bleeding treble.

now she screams from 'wwaaeeeh' to 'ahh' and a lil bit of 'uhh' when i do heavy pentatonic bends on her. tongue.gif

I guess trem = Tremolo = Vintage trem on strat = Same string spacing on Tele = Bla bla bla I'm still Fked-up.

WTS - SD P-Rail Bridge Zzzz

yup, as dimarzio faq says.....

QUOTE
A long time ago (in the 20th century, actually) the electric guitar
world was divided between Gibson and Fender designs. One of the
differences between the two was string spacing. In general, Gibson
chose a narrower string spacing at the bridge than Fender, and
therefore the polepieces on Gibson humbuckers were closer
together than the magnets on Fender pickups. When guitar shops
started installing humbuckers in the bridge position of Strats, it
was obvious that the strings didn’t line up with the polepieces, and
if the E strings were too far outside, the sound could suffer. Our
first humbuckers followed the original Gibson spacing, and we call
them standard-spaced. When we released our first humbuckers
with wider spacing, Floyd Rose bridges were very popular. Floyd
string-spacing is the same as Fender spacing, so we naturally
called the new pickups F-spaced.

just installed the tonezone into my guitar.

its regular spacing so the poles are not aligned properly.
i didnt notice any volume drop between the strings

lil less output compared to stock dimarzio/ibz and no moar ear bleeding treble.

now she screams from 'wwaaeeeh' to 'ahh' and a lil bit of 'uhh' when i do heavy pentatonic bends on her.  tongue.gif

Mind share a photo? Is the alignment as off as mine?

I think you should include soundclip to describe "wwaaeeeh' to 'ahh' and a lil bit of 'uhh".

Woah, before this I always thought the "F" in F-spaced means Floyd Rose.

You're right, I really learned the hard way that it actually means Fender.

looking at that pic, the issue is more of your low E being too close to edge of board.
so either ur pic not shot headon, or ur bridge saddles out of alignment...

looking at this also, if the pic is really shot headon...
f-space also wont help u...since diff between regular pickups is 3mm and from that pic the diff look like at least 6mm.

anyway, what guitar is that? doesnt look like typical fender pickguard?

Low E string doesn't give me problem at all, though I must say you are right, it seems very close to the edge of fretboard. I guess it's a good thing for me because it's easier to fret it using my thumb that way.

Saddles aren't stock, they're Graphtech. I forgot how's the spacing like using stock saddles.

It's a MIM Tele Deluxe.

in that case, confirm no pickups will work.
u need a new pickguard or stick to original ones.

What I did was; switched pups WITH pickguard, because the original pickguard that mounts the Fender Wide Range humbuckers has slightly bigger pickup holes (FWRH is not the same size as normal humbuckers). I also changed the saddles to Graphtech. I think each of this alter the string spacing and pole pieces alignment a little, but together they turn into this significant effect.

I guess I'll just bear with it at the moment. sweat.gif

On another note, I just didn't like the sound of FWRH, hence swapped it together with the pickguard, and the Graphtech saddles are for longer lasting strings and to reduce tone over-brightness.

Gais, another technical q.

I got this cheapo HSS strat, no sound coming out, I suspect the pots are busted. Hence I just replaced the two pots, but before reassembling the pickguard/backplate etc I just plug it in into the amp just to see if my wiring is correct.

There are sound coming out as I pluck the string, but before I could get excited, it died again.

I also noticed that I've forgot to rewire the grounding at the back of the guitar (the one wire that's soldered to the trem claw). After rewire it back, still no sound coming out.

What could be the problem?

How to know whether it's working or not?

Funny thing is that there is sound signal but just for the first 1-2 seconds the moment I plugged it in, and then it dies again.

Try taking out the jack and check the connections and the metal part where it touches the cable plugs..

Of course it could be loose wiring somewhere also, check the connection from the jack to the pots//;.

If brit then : http://www.jadenroseguitars.com/guitars/original-series maybe one of these?
if polish then plenty of choices...

if aussie then most likely ormsby ...

Or could just play safe and get a suhr modern ...

6 months is very very short for a custom, most 'hot' luthier are running 1-2 year wait lists.
I think Ola strandbergs waiting list is around 300 people with less than 10 made a year ..

I think the forerunners for me now is Jaden Rose or Skervensen =p

yet I can't shake the fear of not liking them since i've tried neither ...

Can't decide between going for a custom build or just go high end production guitars...

If brit then : http://www.jadenroseguitars.com/guitars/original-series maybe one of these?
if polish then plenty of choices...

if aussie then most likely ormsby ...
Or could just play safe and get a suhr modern ...

so many choicessss so little moneyyy
*
Suhr modern frost series. Spectacular matt finish
Ormsby makes cool natural finishes too!
Wow when you already at that price range theres
So much option la!

LP brought me the first PRS gas - the rightmost and his other red one. Those and some of his Prestige RG during his edgier days.

Still love their earlier albums, no doubt, but crowd these days made them go sissy.
*
nah, they're just sold out trying to entertain the mainstream rather than go hard on their original stylistics,
just like how early a7x was, and nowadays adapted to the more mainstream crowd.

Whats the price range of both dano
N nik's stuff though.
*
dano is about 8-9 k depending on what shipping co u use, but the guitar itself is about 7-8 k (2100usd)

hubers well, lowest i think is about 15k you get it from thailand their flagship dolphin and orcas are about 17-18k thats before shipping and tax. after thos things well i estimate about 20k easily.

QUOTE(lky88 @ May 10 2014, 12:50 AM)
6 months is very very short for a custom, most 'hot' luthier are running 1-2 year wait lists.
I think Ola strandbergs waiting list is around 300 people with less than 10 made a year ..

I think the forerunners for me now is Jaden Rose or Skervensen =p

yet I can't shake the fear of not liking them since i've tried neither ...
*
depends la, in general teles are faster and cheaper cause of their make. with the asking price of a new AVRI you can get a custom build liao from the hottest and the best. Ron, Dano, Kline all can build within that price range and all about 5-6 months.

the only one that takes eons to build are those set neck flashy guitars, Nik, Blackmachines (tho i know they not setneck)

theres a huge risk tho in custom boutiques, you never know when the builder can go south and drag your orders to years

i dont think so, the ones that command the most lub are still the "classics" (from a small builder POV) suhr, anderson etc etc

blacmachines are there cause as far as i know you cant order them now, so theres limited amount in the market and for every internet guy who goes around saying "OMFG this is an amazing guitar!" there will be some rich kid/dude out there that goes out and gets it with a fat cheque.

nice a not is entirely another subject matter.

so today i went and test the C22, its nice, one of the PRS tones that i can learn to like a bit. but strangely that guitar looks cheap, and the feel of it is like a huber (considering that huber works for PRS last time) and theres something missing to it. theres a nice mid range spike, better clarity than a gibson and warmer strat sound, but my mind keeps thinking its a poor mans huber.

my GAS went south almost immediately

im still thinking about it tho, the price is quite good

The neck is amazing, for my taste at least, very very smooth and the thickness + radius just nice , very very accessible high frets . It's a setius its more like a prs than the regius . It's doesn't feel super thin like charvel/ jackson and ibanez , feels more .. sleek ? I prefer it to prestige 7 necks.
I suck at describing, but it's good . Can try in thailand i think they bring in ....

Other topics ,
Blackmachines are not only expensive but doug build ones are no longer available . (B2/B7 FF8)

The only ones available are B6s which are those swamp ash 6 strings . Build by Feline Guitars London with Doug. I think the waiting list is 1.5 years?

thats why soo many luthier shops are popping left right and centre making BM copies.

I don't think Dano will cabut with your money la.. The entire bernie rico jr episode has made everyone jumpy. For a right cause though.

Skerversen is pretty safe as they are going in the direction of Mayones / Carvin ( semi custom) .

I think extended wait times on customs are better than a rushed and botched job? The wait makes the first time you plug her in and make sweet love to here even better!

not really boutiques cabut with peoples money, too long production time, false promises is more common than you think its normally the smaller ones that do it but still i can name a few off my head

even suhr had issues in meeting production promises

owh and since we are on the blackmachine topic, i saw this today

QUOTE
QUOTE(whoismarykelly;17832111)
Nearly every custom guitar I have ordered has missed the promised delivery date. A few times by only weeks. Twice by more than a year. The guys that missed dates by a few weeks all had legitimate reasons. On one a neck needed to be rebuilt because of wood issues. On another a shop flood delayed work for a month or so. Those were not major delays and both guitars are incredible pieces.

The first guitar delayed by over a year was a Blackmachine B2. I ordered a Mahogany body/rosewood neck guitar and the builder never started it for a year. He would tell me it was almost done when it had never been started. He would wait weeks to reply to my emails. Keep in mind he had a $2000 deposit and that was only 50%. When the guitar was finally done he sent me pictures and the guitar that he had built had a swamp ash body. He didn't seem to think this major spec deviation was a big deal and said I "would probably like the swamp ash more anyway." When I protested he said he could build a new guitar but the wait would be another year. I accepted a free case and the cost of shipping as a discount. When the guitar showed up it was dirty and there was a ton of white filler around the body binding. He had probably taken it to a trade show for everyone to play before shipping out. The routing was sloppy and the top had numerous sanding marks visible in the finish. In the end I would have rather had one of the nice Ibanez RGA models available at the time than the $4000 Blackmachine.

My Oni was delayed equally long because Dan had some health and workshop issues. We had to change materials because of CITES fears. At the very end of the build process I had to choose totally new electronics because the body was mistakenly drilled for 4 pots and a switch when I only wanted a single volume and 3-way switch. Ultimately Im happy that I have the extra controls because they make the guitar much more versatile but at the time it was frustrating. Dan's work is some of the best I have seen though and the guitar is fantastic. He ended up giving me a significant discount as well because of the wait and the build frustrations. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him now that his workshop and build process is more streamlined.

stirng your guitar as usual, but before you put the ends in, use a plier and twist the string to the direction you want to go in. then use your finger to press it down and turn

it will come out if you dont turn the string 90 degrees

Really ? That blackmachine story sounds very dodgy as doug doesn't take requests for his build , only small stuff like pickups and bridges as choices.
His guitars are basically build to what he wants to achieve in a guitar ( from what I've heard from BM owners)

But yea, the world of custom guitars oh so appealing but the delays and inevitable ...
Problem is most luthiers are guitarist who build guitars, not businessmen = shitty shitty business models and overbooking and shit .

Yeah but initial 4k investment for bm. Is probably the fastest turnover for your money in modern guitars History.
Especially knowing that superstrats always dipped in price in secondhand value .

I'd buy a BM on moments notice.. ..
I can't imagine myself buying a boutique vintage guitar though, like LP or strat, like ever ever.
If i'm gonna spend 10k on a guitar I'd want it to be exactly what I like(modern) or really vintage stuff.

Sad to say I've never tried them but

2. japanese
3. looks amazing
4. Japanese superstrat.

Would probably love them? Heard the necks are on the chunkier end of the skinny neck spectrum, which sounds like my sweet spot.

You need to find a clean installer of Cubase LE/AI 6 demo first. It has been taken down from Steinberg, even from their ftp archive. Probably due to the large number of "free activations" being made from this version.

After install, open MySteinberg (Cubase e-licensing manager website) and register a username.
Opt for Cubase AI 6 (AI has more features compared to LE), and select Yamaha or Zoom.
Open Soft-eLicense (installed by Cubase) on your computer and copy your install serial thingy to your MySteinberg.
Let it generate your activation code. Use them on Soft e-License.
Make sure to update your Soft-License too.

There you go, free and 'legit' Cubase. No need to hack, no need keygen.

sticky normally happens with nitro

act i think thats the reason, the neck doesnt feel sticky but the neck and body feels like those cheap guitars from korea. theres no wood feel, it feels like poly, like a good thick coat of poly.

feel like going bents later anyone wants to join?

schecter ? i tot here long time got dy, just that now ultimate music die liao so candor take over.

act i prefer them over the ibz and most superstrats out there the diamond sseries is to me arguably the most value for money big brand out there.
*
yeah they come with emgs and blackouts 'proper pups' but im never sold on their necks, thats just the beef with all the guitar i almost buy, played and feels the neck doesn't suit me, turn off straight

When I started playing I found Schecters neck pretty beefy too, had an Indonesia made 7 String that was great for the money.

To me LTDs are pretty good too, all better choices to ibanez for me, at least for the lower ends.

yup they are trying to bring back teh company to its glory days of being THE custom shop of the 80s
*
i thought schecter was only doing real custom stuff up til the early 80s only...not exactly THE 80s...glory days well is debatable tongue.gif
ESP / Kramer were also doing custom stuff then...so too charvel...guess it was the boom era in the late 70s to 80s...
even gibson and fender had custom shop that anyone could do for cheap...

and i always thought and still think the player's custom shop is still carvin...though i heard they dont do custom orders that much anymore either...zzz...

beefy thick neck is a true mans guitar, if want to play a thin and flat neck go find plywood

eh guys. any recommend for a cheap but good/ okay la / not so bad acoustic?

only got so much space to spam in 1 post...but loudness was my first intro...that live version of in the mirror on some pirated compilation album...the studio version kinda boring.
i only got 1 outrage album lying around somewhere.
that time so many jap rock/metal bands...most of them suck...only a few standout...y&t...ezo...cats in boots cos those few actually hit american market decently tongue.gif

most of my fav PL songs are from draconian times...when they finally moved away from the death/goth side to almost goth...and then unfortunately into their depeche mode phase...but the darkness still remained...
and no matter what they do...all fans still somehow like every phase they do tongue.gif

kinda sucky that the official video removed the dialogue from uncle charlie manson...

so many of theirs to mention...
but of cos classics will forever be classics...

Don't settle for the inferior 6 string! It's like buying a buying a porsche then opting out aircon liddat....

I prefer the Duvell though.. more agressive and traditional super-strat... dat poplar top uumph! http://www.mayones.com/en/katalog/mayones_...vell_elite_7_en

300 more for stainless steel frets, poplar top , locking tuner and a wenge necks seem alright =p

Alright just changed pots and input jack to my chaplang guitar.

No sound coming out from the strings.

Plugged in to the amp, turn the vol n tone all the way up, there's only buzzy sound.

No buzzy sound when I turn the vol or tone knob all the way down.

Where could the wiring glitch be? hmm.gif

hmm.. maybe double check if the wirings correct? sounds like the grounds are wired in reverse or something like that. Check on the jack wiring, see if you got it right or reversed.

you have a multimeter to check if the pickups and switch are ok?

I do not hav a multimeter here right now. Should get one. :sigh:

I'll try to reverse the wiring on the jack and update back.

Thanks for your response.

i agree with start trek being more int kinda show,
got one show they show the dilemma of being god, when they
came to a quite uncivilised planet and give a hand to the planet dwellers,
and then they started worshipping the mysterious alien.

its a deep profound episode to say the least.

act i dont know what guitar it is, its said to be a MIJ bla bla bla model. but the neck profile is not right, the pups are texas specials and when i got it the pickup toggle self decapitated. the guitar pretty much lived its life without a bridge pickup untill i changed it last year, now it needs a fretjob cause i used it too often. (imma liek bends)

you got a badly made guitar.
the frets wore out fast cos it was like ibanez but not as rusty.

and texas specials? on a 1993? was that even available then? or aftermarket?

naw, its one of them older fender style guitars where the frets were smaller and when the time i got it the guitar had some crowning work done liao. its a used guitar from 93 la, 21 years of service liao.

i guess after market, the guitar had some work done to it, the finish is not original and the pickguard likewise was not. hell might even be a partcaster

sounds good so dun care.

i know they're pretty older as it gets, but not in that worn out pretty as fender is known for, (especially when relicing is their business)

The humming sound is probably a wiring/grounding issue

As for pickups, do you want normal, hum-cancelling or single coil sized humbucker?
check out seymour duncan or dimarzio. they make good pickups

Yeap, I do mods because I was curious. Kinda like trial and error experience tongue.gif

Copper tapes are hard to come by in Malaysia. Most probably have to buy online

I used those aluminium tape found in hardware stores for my guitar shielding for my strats and they reduced around 30-40% of the hum
But i didnt add a second ground wire from the shielding to the normal ground because u cant/hard to solder on aluminium tape.

Hi guys, does anyone know if Danelectro pedals are still sold locally? Bentley used to carry them, but they hardly stock anything Danelectro these days.

Specifically, I'm looking for the DJ14 Fish and Chips 7-band EQ Pedal (used to sell for ~RM100+).

yea which indirectly is a result of gibson not getting as much new trees as they like.
so gibson had to use the wood thats closer to the roots, which are very dense due to gravity.

its also why 50s/60s gibsons were very light...

yea which indirectly is a result of gibson not getting as much new trees as they like.
so gibson had to use the wood thats closer to the roots, which are very dense due to gravity.

its also why 50s/60s gibsons were very light...
*
wow we learn new things everyday! never knew the density of wood relationship to gravity in that way.

but uhh, a 50s LP weighs below 4kg...my 70s SG is 4.1kg...90s LP i had is 4.5kg...
i wonder what the weight of the newer LPs are...i assume they brought it back down to around 4kg?

owh i know that one, thing about it is gibson doesnt make it specific and i dont think theres a longer neck tenon for any of the gibson USA.

to my knowledge its still short all these while

i still wonder the tone arguments of it, legit a not

Went to Cash Converters Taman Sea earlier today and saw some nifty weird ass machine gun shaped guitars on the wall.

Got floyd rose, H-H config, suprisingly fat unfinished 24 fret maple neck/rosewood board, volume and tone for each pickup

All i can say is, it was super awkward playing it lol

P/S : Do your own research about this guitar cos i dont do kopithiam talk and in the end not buying.
Low ballers and timewaster dont try your luck.
As this is a preowned guitar..there wont be any papers or document to proved or support of its purchased.
This rare beauty is hard to come by and its a 34 years old collector guitar. and still shines!!!
Will keep this guitar if theres no potential buyers and will sell it at even a very high price in more years to come.( My price will never go down )

If u can get this guitar cheap in ebay or buy new guitar in swee lee..by all means go ahead cos musical instrument is for u to physically see, touch and play before purchased.Btw u cant get this old "Black Vintage" anymore.Old vintage guitars made by gibson, wood quality and tone is amazing and is un-compareable to the new generations Gibson Guitar which are so called Reissue and its suck..!! Cheers..!!
