You get better rate, no admin fee needed.

What is this Letter of Intent thingy when it comes to renting? I don't remember writing this when I was looking for a room early this year. Have you guys written something like this before?

Edit: In addition, did you guys pay your deposit/ rent by cash, bank transfer or cheque? Apparently the latter is preferred as it can constitute as proof of payment (As suggested by HDB board lol)?

Next, say if I found a place to rent without engaging an agent, who is responsible to get the Tenancy Agreement stamped? I know I am to pay the fees though.

I ask for every one's goodwill to bear with my silly questions for a while! I had it really easy the first time round (renting matters) and was pretty fortunate that everything went smoothly! My previous landlady handled everything which I initially took to be the norm! 

Letter of Intent not commonly used in room or unit renting. That is for larger scale rental say the whole floor in an office block or properties purchases. For unit or room rental, put down deposit then done deal already.

First deposit mostly by cash, or cheque if the properties are rented by companies for their staff. Your agent will give you a receipt, that should be sufficient. Future rental some prefer internet banking for records and minimum effort for rental income.

The person who want the agreement to be stamped pay the money. Normally agreement is not stamped even with agents, no?

Yes. Btw, using CIMB Clicks to transfer from CIMB SG to CIMB MY is free. But I don't have CIMB account in MY and couldn't be bother to maintain yet another bank account for a few bucks gain.
