Hmm... I use a 2ft tank, with a well seasoned piece of driftwood inside, and a small piece of coral included. i find that tannins released from the seasoned driftwood helps prevent fungus attacks on eggs, and thus increase batch size. It also serves as a hiding place for the female during the courtship ritual. The coral helps to stablize the water pH so spikes do not kill the fries. A clear partition or glass pane to separate the breeding pair till they are ready to mate has obvious reasons la.... Not too many things... An infusoria culture for early feeding of fries...

how many jars should we prepare for the fries when they are around 2 months old?i think we should saparate them or put them in a bigger tank that can support that many young bettas. if put them in a community tank, how big should the tank be?

putting gravel in betta tank will enhance the look of the tank, but beware of the bacteria that is kept with the gravel. gravel encourage bacteria growth and you have to becareful with that.
as for taming, if you mean it will look at you when you reach home or will go to your hand when you put your hand closer and closer to the tank, then i think what you need is time, when it recognizes you as its food source it will go to you.
oh yea, how to identify ketapang tree? i am really struggling in identifying one... i saw a lot of trees with the kind of leaves that was shown in the previous posts. but how to identify which is ketapang tree?

i think washing the gravel thoroughly when you change the water will be useful. bacteria is the main cause for most of the diseases for betta, so , be careful especially if you are raring CT or HM.

Thanx kb those are the nicest fish i've ever breed till date but the line is still far from stable.
Actually if you used a 2ft tank to rear a single betta then i believe the sands should not post a problem. I believe the sands should be a very good place for beneficial bacteria to bloom. Weekly 10-25% water changes should be ample to provide good water parameter.

it is easy to take care of if you rare the normal ones or short fin betta[aka plakat]. feed once a day, skip a day per week, change water every 5~7 days. when changing water need to make sure that the PH and the water temperature is about the same. that's all to keep it alive, for better condition, can put in black water[to normalize pH to around 6.8-7.0, fight against bacteria] and sea salt[prevent deseases]. in case of sickness it is always good to prepare a bottle of medicine like methylene blue. erm...that's all i think... if you want to breed them then there will be more things to learn and prepare.
-edit- i forgot to mention, you can replace black water by using ketapang leaves or also known as indian almond tree. but i do not know how the tree looks like. so,i am not using it currently.
