Need some help here...anyone managed to save bettas from columnaris before?? i lost all my bettas to columnaris...the fatal sickness for me...i've already lost 2 females, 3 males to columnaris and currently my new female hmpk with symetrical and 180 degree straight edge caudal is down with columnaris again. I dun wanna lose her (best female i've ever got my hand on) so any one has any advice on this goddamn disease?
I'm currently treating her with japanese yellow powder...manage to save one of my female betta with it but that particular female died from internal infections few weeks later. Can anyone tell me where to get fish meds (antibiotics) like interpret 7 in kl??? can't find any lfs tat stock with this antibiotics here in setapak

QUOTE(yewlin @ Jul 27 2006, 09:50 PM) i saw interpret 7 at kok aqua..you can ask jit sin guide u there on this saturday Now i'm blurred as jit sin mentioned in bsm forum tat it might be fungus (slime disease)...relli dunno how to treat her The description on the internet for both columnaris and fungus infections seems so similiar that i'm rather confuse whether which izzit that she is infected. Here's some pics...maybe some 1 can help me confirm The pics just show a bit of the "cotton"/"slime" wateva it is on da body but in reality it's covered all over the body even on top of the eye This post has been edited by evildonkey: Jul 27 2006, 09:56 PM

It's okay yewlin...i'm more interested in hmpk right now, so i'll most prorably eye on ur hmpk more than ur hm...hehe...the reason i wanted a female hm is becoz i got an old virgin hm male that i got no chance to spawn due to no suitable female...right now budget problem so the hm female maybe next month lah...hopefully my old virgin hm dun KO when i found him a suitable partner later on.
meiteoh thx for the info...really appreciate your findings but somehow i'm not very good with words so i'm still undecided whether it's columnaris or fungus infection...the description is somewhat similiar for both diseases and that really confuses me.
Right now i'll stick more towards fungus infections as previously the female is doing well before my itchy hand dumb her into my "in preperation" spawning tank with lots of duckweed and some water plants(dunno wats da name). I haven't changed the water in that tank for a week or so and it;s full of rotten leaves and other misc stuff (even found some flea lookalike creature) on the duckweeds. Thought of dumping her into the tank infested with mosquito larve so she could clear them up. Seems to be a very bad decision on that part.
For the time being i can only hope for the best and keep on monitoring her...thx for those who have given me info and insights on the godamn disease that's been bugging me ever since i've started the hobby.

Guppies are notorious for being fin nippers...it's wouldn't be wise to mix guppy with betta unless u want to customized your HM into a CT...no idea about tetras though, maybe some bros here could confirm with you

haha sorry for being misleading...my memory must be failing me coz i tot i've read somewhere about guppies being fin nippers but it's the certain kind of tetras that is known to be fin nippers. Kinda mess up with those 2 there.

With flash
Without flash
Another pic without flash Here's the picture as promised earlier. Sorry for the blurness coz the fish is too active. The color looks like royal blue but can see some turquiose hue in it. The anal is abit long and the first ray of the dorsal is short...very common in pk line and forward and straight first dorsal ray is quite rare among hmpk line or the price wouldn't be what i've paid for. Ray distribution on the caudal isn't that balance yet as there's still some 3-ray and 2-ray branching near the caudal edges. The fish is still young i believe with enough TLC he should grow pretty handsomely. Hope you guys enjoy it. This post has been edited by evildonkey: Aug 3 2006, 07:12 PM

Overall i'm very very satisfy with the fishes...worth any single cent i paid for...the fish is still young and the critique i gave is based on it's current form and i believe this fish will grow much nicer in the near future and that's why i won't be breeding it anytime soon...wanna snap a pic of him in his best form before letting the female thrash him or letting him thrash the female. Regarding the price, i think u must've got it wrong. What i'm trying to say is it's normal for pk/hmpk line to have a shorter front ray. If the dorsal is anything like sarawut's hm line or bobby's skyhawk line(long straight first dorsal ray pointing forward) then the price should be much much more expensive then what i've paid. I've no regret getting the fishes from you bro yewlin...no need for refunds or anything like that, hope it'll clear your misunderstanding This post has been edited by evildonkey: Aug 3 2006, 11:37 PM

QUOTE(Jitticus @ Sep 8 2006, 02:04 AM) hehe evilD, this spawn alot of them red wash. Clean pieces very few so I have to ask Sumaika how much he wanna sell. He might not even wanna sell the clean ones yet cause so few pieces. How are you fish doing? Good? Spawn already or not? Andrew spawned his pair from Yewlin already. So fast!
I had a fail attempt on breeding them coz i can't bear to let the female get torn to pieces so i abandon that attempt and never did really condition them well enough so no spawn yet...furthermore these days the daphnia supply is unpredictable so i dun dare to spawn yet as i scare the entire spawn kong during the daphnia drought...need to find alternative fry food first. Regarding the copper, i dun mind if it's not clean as i intend to use them in an experimental project...btw how's da imbellis any extra to spare? Leaving them one week should be ok because i've left my betta unattended for 2 long weeks before without any casulties. It's better if you bring them along but if u you hesitate to do so then you can feed them heavily 3-4 meals per day a week ahead. Stop feeding them 1-2 days before you leave so that they can clear of the waste from their body and change 100% water before you leave.
I've always did that when i have to leave home for quite a number of days but so far my record is 2 weeks lah.
