HI all, just a quick question. I'm thinking if getting citi Cb card but I'm concerned particularly on the annual fee if RM120. Any chance of waiving it for new card holder? Thanks

I do not understand. There are so many banks out with Zero annual fees (free for life). Local banks issued credit cards are as good as those foreign banks. Why would anyone want to call in and beg Citibank to waive annual fee yearly.

The thought of calling and beg Citibank to waive the annual fee really pissed me off. That's why I cancelled mine many years ago and never apply for Citibank CC anymore, even when they offered many gifts on application.

I am quite surprise for the non waiver of AF reported here. I cancelled my CC and made no mention about AF whatsoever. The CS who called me back said can waive my AF but I said no thank you as I really want to cancel it.

Citibank CS also told me the same thing. Later I found out this is not true. All other foreign banks have some credit cards which are free for life. Citibank all cards also got annual fee.

It is just Citibank's strategy of maximizing profits. If got calls to waive, they will waive most annual fee requests. Those that didn't call or not persistent enough Citibank would whack them with annual fees. Imagine 50% either didn't call or persistent in requesting for fee waiver. That would mean multi-millions additional income.

Knowing what Citibank is doing and sick of begging for waiver like a beggar, I cancelled my Citi CC (that was many years ago). I am quite happy with my local banks credit cards. No whatsoever issue at all even using them in foreign countries.

Absolutely ridiculous.

I have Citibank platinum card.

I have linked almost every utility and insurance to my credit card, every month also exceed RM 2K+ on charges alone. Pay also on time.

Suddenly this jokers decide to slap me with Annual Membership Fee and GST. So I called up and asked them to waive. Then this lady from Retention department told me is over already, they don’t have such waiver policy. She say she can offer me 50% waiver for both membership and GST. She say they need the money for “Enhancement” purposes and then she gave me a lecture for 5 long mins and in the end if want to know more please refer to web site.

After she finish talking, I told her to transfer me to settlement department cause I want full settlement. She keep asking for reasons and asked me to explain. I said don’t need to explain I want full settlement, is there any option to waive interest (last time I did this to CIMB, they waived RM 300 on interest charged). Tired of her, I told her to waive whatever and I will cancel my card later… I cut the line off after that.

15 minutes later, she called back and she told me that I should opt for free for life card instead if I don’t want to get slapped by charges. Also, she told me I need to make a request annually for waiver of annual membership and GST. (lol sudden change?).

Such underhand tactic of doing business. I don’t want to go through the hassle of getting approval or an argument like this.

Goodbye Citibank, I will go to some other bank who appreciates my debt.

Same thing happened to me this morning.
Officer told me I already earn alot from the cashback, WTF?
And this is my primary payment card where I pay most of my stuff!
Told them I'm cancelling and they said ok, wow.
Cutting my platinum cash back now.
