Yes. If you 'hold' your existing NCD 'without' having a car/transfer, it will decrease year by year till 0%...

U can check here your NCD https://ncd.ism.net.my/publicncdenq/index.htm

Yes, this is true. Do the transfer immediately. It is better if both insurance are from the same company.

Must cancel insurance for old car b4 NCD transfer to new car. U tend buy a cheaper 3rd party insurance for the old car.

Yes. But most insurance company will not cover 3rd party if the age of the car is above 12 or 15 years.

This is because the vehicle is considered high risk. cry.gif

You have to buy comprehensive cover and pay an extra loading charge or excess will be imposed. sweat.gif

For vehicle above 20 years, there is no other venue but purchasing Malaysia Motor Insurance Pool (MMIP) cover. The premium is the highest. Most insurance company don't wanna do this because of high risk and Malaysia Takaful Association ask all it's members to drop this type of coverage.

So in conclusion you will get discount from NCD up to year 5 (which is the highest) and enjoy the big discount until year 11. In year 12 you will feel the insurance premium hike because of the above. Don't be surprise nod.gif

need some advise
my situation::
*my 1st car already have 55% NCD (due untill 28/3)
*my 2nd car right now i purchase with new insurance with 0% NCD and it will due untill 4/3..
( and to my understanding my 2nd car will have 25% NCD for my next renewal )

the question is:
so what should i do if i want to transfer the 55% NCD(from my 1st car) to my 2nd car??
and still retain the 25% NCD(originally from my 2nd car for my next renewal) to my 1st car???

I know. You buy MMIP just to have the road tax so you can still use the car.

But please be careful, 99.99% of the time you cannot claim if stolen or accident. Even if car has short circuit and burn, claim is denied.... ehem ehem.. I don't know if I should say this. sweat.gif

Just be really careful.

Yes, it can be done. But this kind of transfer can only be done if both cars are same owner.

Transfering between spouse and family members also cannot.

The process is tedious because you use different companies.

To do NCD transfer, you should always use the same company.

From my understand, your 1st car will become ZERO NCD once you transfer to 2nd car (which you should have do it during the purchase the 2nd car - by on the other hand not sure can you still get back 1st party coverage on your 1st car after that since nowadays insurance company dun take/offer 1st party for 'old' car....

As for once you 'overwritten' the 55% to your 25% NCD, by right your 25% will become zero.....unless you do a 'swap'

E.g CURRENTLY

1. 55% on OLD Car > your sum insure of the car for sure lower than new car after many years of depreciation (unless this is more 'expensive' car then 2nd car)
2. 25% on NEW Car > your sum insured is HIGH due new car....in order to LOWER it you use 55% to increase the discount....and move this 25% to old car...

I hope you get what i mean...

both under my name
and my question is
what is the process??
should i renew first my 2nd car to obtain the NCD 25% and then swap it later??
OR can i do the swap transfer now and i still entitle to get the NCD 25% transfer to my 1st car??

p/s:
another problem is the NCD 25% only applicable for my next renewal

The best thing to do is to refer to your insurance agent. Go to the nearest branch and ask them to do it. The process will be really tedious if transfer to other insurance company since they wont have access to your files.

For your information, renewal of road tax and purchase of vehicle insurance can be done 60 days early. So in your case, you should do it now. Both ends in March right, if I remembered correctly.

Not really. It's not that tedious.
Just gotta ask your current insurance company to do NCD withdrawal and pay the outstanding fees then you register to a new company .
It'll be updated in the NCD system once you withdraw the NCD and the new company will know and be able to help you utilize the NCD for the new insurance.

Thought of updating here.
Just paid my insurance for the remaining period and withdrawn the NCD. Did all of it around an hour. Didn't use any agent's but liased directly with the company which in my case was RHB. Called them and got a quote and went to the branch and paid the quoted amount. Emailed the documents and call them, they immediately checked my email and replied with attached NCD letter. Good service by them. Hope others can use this as a reference point.

Can be done:
Go to your current car insurance co to refund the pro rated 30% NCD.
Get the 30% NCD release endorsement and send it to your new car insurance co for the prorated refund.

But:
You wasted a "period/time" for both insurance covers to earn the next level of NCD ie 38.33% and 25% because you do the refund in between the standard 1 year insurance coverage period and your next NCD and insurance renewal date will be due in different dates now.

Whenever I buy a new car, I will transfer the NCD from the lowest value car that I have. Then the lower value car will attract full 100% premium until the next year and so on.

My agents will do the tfr for me. Apa susah....kerja dia.
