Is it possible to have the insurance ncd of my old car transferred to my new purchase which is a second hand car?
How does it actually work?
Or can i just have 2 cars under my name with the same insurance NCD?
Please advise people. tq.

edit: Basically i'll be having 2 cars till i sell my old car.

still can transfer.. ... should have done it when you bought your car ?

I am currently transferrign mine.. contact my old insurance agent and get him to withdraw then fax over the documents to my SA to settle.. .

alternatively you may collect the documents and go over your another car's insurance company and tell them you want to transfer NCD

*I might have a clearer picture once mine is completely transferred....

When you terminate your earlier car insurance you should ask for an Endorsement letter. The insurance company will give you a letter endorsing your no claim discount. Then you just pass this to the new car sales agent and you can automatically get your no claim discount.

another useful info i got from an agent...
if u have extra ncd that you're not using (example, u had 2 cars b4, and now only 1 car)...
ur unused NCD will not be burnt immediately..
it will reduce in % at the same rate u accumulates them...
eg. if u have 55% this year, next year, it will reduce to 45%, then 35%..sumtin like dat... (rate might not be accurate)

Car sold then you just go to insurance counter do endorsement -> cancel the old car policy and acquire a NCD entitlement letter and ask them to update into ISM.

If the new car fall under same insurance company, you can do transfer straight sway. Other wise you need to go to the new car insurance company and do entitlement.

FYI, IF you do cancellation earlier, you may entitle refund for your old car premium

Go to old car insurance company and do endorsement NCD withdraw. You need to pay up an amount of commission recovery, depend how long period of cover left for your old car. Should be a small amount charged only.

Therefore you still have two car policy in force and you and use the NCD entitlement for your new car premium discount

I did not sell my car hence I just do a transferred to my new car.

Which means old car was entitled the NCD % up to the day I transferred.. keeping the old car's policy which means my next remaining months is with 0% NCD hence the top up.

New car will enjoy the accumulated NCD.

If you opt to let SA does it, make sure he understands it clearly because there have been many cases they just did a termination of your old car's policy....

In my case...when I sold my car....a month later insurance also expired. Too busy to cancel right away. So with my new car can I go to the previous car insurance (expired 3 months ago) to transfer NCD??

i transferred mine 4 months after i bought a new car. My old policy was about to expire and i took another one for my new car.

give ur insurance agent a visit n bring the old policy. they will update ur record in the databaase n transfer the ncd to the new policy. Once settled They will prepare a cheque for the amount u overpaid.
U can check ur ncd here https://ncd.ism.net.my/publicncdenq/index.htm

Try calling your insurance agency. I just did and for my case they told me i just gotta get the ncd entitlement letter and pay extra for my old car as it will be calculated without ncd. For your case most probably you just gotta go and collect the ncd entitlement letter and transfer to your new car's insurance.
keep in mind if u don't collect ur ncd entitlement/leave it null for long it'll depreciate on yearly basis.

25% 1st year
30% d2nd year
38.33% 3rd year
45% 4th year
55% 5th year and stays that way

NCD follows the driver... not the car smile.gif

so 1 person can have more than 1 NCD, right? from different cars??
cos i had 2 cars before this, the NCD from the 1 i sold (was at 55% NCD when i sold it)
means i can utilise it anytime within the next 5 years, right?
of kos with reduce % rate like the one u listed above...

Yes it is possible. U might get back certain amount of premium from your existing insurance as long it has not reach the 'due' date for the following year repayment.

Like mentioned by other member, you can get your used car agent to do deal with your existing insurance company for the withdrawal and transfer the NCD to another car (if both same insurance its even better)

Haha, can't la NCD only can apply to ONE car at one time.... laugh.gif

Yes. If you 'hold' your existing NCD 'without' having a car/transfer, it will decrease year by year till 0%...

U can check here your NCD https://ncd.ism.net.my/publicncdenq/index.htm
