How does the mod work? Is it a hardware mod, or simply a software mod and if i run into problem in future with Live which make the xbox360 unable to play backup games, will i be able to fix it?

yup....go to the media blade, then pictures and then portable devices.
after that scroll to the photo and press X.

Dolby Pro-Logic only... for Dolby Digital on 360 u need to use the optical input - TOSLINK

not as good as Dolby Digital 5.1 but better than stereo most of the time center channel is correct but surround channel is not that convincing, and no LFE.

That's a tall order bro. Djinn and bernard will provide you with good service, but even their combined powers can't stop the ROD from happening. That's a matter best left to the console gods.

I tried signed up online, then recover the gamertag from the xbox, but they won't prompt you with the free offer.

For around 300 extra, I think it's better for you to get the premium. A lot of games do use the HDD for caching.
