QUOTE(AVFAN @ May 1 2016, 02:40 PM) can u do me a favor... Followup from KODI's thread.. kodi/quasar, on yr new box, set to external hdd if insufficent memory... try 6, 8, 10gb videos. see if there are any judders. i seem to notice the judders become more acute with bigger and bigger files for the same setting. also, i tried various file sizes on kit kat 4.4 and lollipop 5.1. kitkat is smooth only up to 1gb/45min or 2gb/100min files. lollilop is smooth up to 5gb/100min files but also succumb to judders with larger/longer videos. thanks. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « |

QUOTE(voncrane @ May 1 2016, 09:48 PM) QUOTE(voncrane @ May 1 2016, 10:19 PM) i found the explanation for the problem i had... this judder thingy at quasar.it's my box output setting! i usually set my android box to output 2160p 24hz for the 4k tv. setting it to 2160p 30hz eliminated the judders. 2160p 24hz is best for bdmv's. QUOTE(AVFAN @ May 2 2016, 01:49 AM) i found out the problem i had... this judder thingy at quasar. Ahh, Suspected as much.. It's the little things huh.. it's my box output setting! i usually set my android box to output 2160p 24hz for the 4k tv. setting it to 2160p 30hz eliminated the judders. 2160p 24hz is best for bdmv's. Edit: Is Popcorntime working on your end? Installed the Popcorntime CE edition, but couldn't get a few titles I tested to play.. Quasar works and so it's not that big a deal, but it'd be nice to have backups. This post has been edited by voncrane: May 2 2016, 02:03 AM |

QUOTE(voncrane @ Apr 30 2016, 11:25 PM) Here are some more real world usage info about the Minix Neo U1.. like to check with you...*HDMI passthrough works... Same result through HDMI-ARC. *Only Jarvis was also able to output any sound and smoothly play a Blue-ray file that shipped with Dolby Atmos track. Well, since I currently do not own a Dolby Atmos capable receiver, the base Dolby TrueHD track was passed-through instead. That's normal and the sound's terrific. *Installed a bunch of addons including Quasar and no crashes yet. The Beast build which I prefer has been pulled by its creator recently and so, going old school. neo u1... can it passthru dtshdma or not? according to below, it can pass thru ddtruehd but not dtshdma. https://www.avforums.com/review/minix-neo-u...ox-review.12167 if it can, i may suggest my friend get it. the last time another friend bought, he did not buy minix becos of that. impt for home theater users since most bdmv's come with dtshdma audio. also, why not start a dedicated MINIX thread? or use an existing one (but the title should be general minix rather than specific model). the time has come, i think. there are dedicated HIMEDIA, MIBOX abd HYPPBOX threads. QUOTE(AVFAN @ May 2 2016, 11:36 AM) popcorn is working fine. Since the original popcorn time was killed, there have been many forks or versions out there and not all of them have out best interests at heart... Malware, adware, trojans, etc. Did a search about popcorn time V 2.7.5.3 and was led to popcorn-time.to, which according to the official statement by popcorntime.ag, the app is being run by unsavory characters. Thanks for the tip, I'll be sticking with Quasar for now.. only thing is there are now less updates. esp for the no. of choices for links for each title. there used to be choices for <1gb, 3gb, even 8-10gb. now, mostly small files, even cam versions. my version is 2.7.5.3. QUOTE(AVFAN @ May 2 2016, 12:14 PM) like to check with you... Yes it does work.. The Minix team updated the firmware and XBMC for Minix app to support DTS-HD MA passthrough. One has to use the Minix XBMC app to achieve this. Yeah, it would be nice to have a dedicated Minix thread but I'm unsure if we have enough users and potential buyers to keep the thread lively. It's much practical to hangout at the official Minix forum. Perhaps if others show enough interest...neo u1... can it passthru dtshdma or not? according to below, it can pass thru ddtruehd but not dtshdma. https://www.avforums.com/review/minix-neo-u...ox-review.12167 if it can, i may suggest my friend get it. the last time another friend bought, he did not buy minix becos of that. impt for home theater users since most bdmv's come with dtshdma audio. also, why not start a dedicated MINIX thread? or use an existing one (but the title should be general minix rather than specific model). the time has come, i think. there are dedicated HIMEDIA, MIBOX abd HYPPBOX threads. |

QUOTE(simonctm @ May 3 2016, 10:58 AM) a box will work for any TV, incl LCD or even CRT.if not planning to buy new 3D or UHD TV, then the related features in the box are simply not used. some of these features are now pretty standard in most boxes. the major differences are about chipset, android version and memory. browse through almost every page of this thread for info before make up my mind to change my current c2pid media box (Philips HMP8100/98 with OS of 4.1.1 FW) to minix U1 or Nvidia Shield. Many current apps is not compatible.
Can any pro recommend which 1 to go for? Main purpose is to have it to watch HK Drama, and 90s to current HK movies, and English movie for free..and game. At the same time, can recommend me any androids apps to watch the above?? My ISP is maxis 10mpbs and the router is located in the storeroom thus the coverage can only get maximum 3 bar for my current noob philips media box. Appreciate for you guys & girls help! |

Many current apps is not compatible. for a start you can try out cheap M8s box, alternatively if u have the budget. get minix neo x8-h plus. But avoid Mibox at all cost (personal opinion). Can any pro recommend which 1 to go for? To save the hassle and trouble!! just wanna settle my wife demand to watch HK drama with just few simple click on apps. please be warned that operating a tv box is not as a matter of plug and play, one need to do a lot of reading and at least some basic tech knowledge to operate. if you just need to click and point on apps. a basic tv box will do (by the way, i using Neo U1 now). of course you may need to subscribe to a paid iptv. Please also take note take Minix does not support Netflix HD.Thanks for the recommendation!! Definitely will avoid mibox..my fren regret buying that!!one lighting struck, that mibox say byebye already. |

QUOTE(ranger2020 @ May 3 2016, 04:13 PM) i remember someone was saying HK Drama is meant for Malaysian. even the honkies themself don't watch much of HK Drama hence the reasons why they are rare.malaysia is the biggest market for it but it is actually small. that is why astro makes a killing with those canto packages. everywhere else in the world, mandarin is used, 10,000 times over. i personally no longer watch hk stuff since mandarin stuff is much better, more to choose and much easier to get, in HD. |
