Becos last time the njoi box at my parent house, Astro got call to offer family pack for trial at special price. So I supposed it could be done?
*

As long you're using the HD box, it's just a matter of "changing settings in their system" from Njoi or Astro for your account type.
They would "suddenly" offer Family pack or whatever promo, is to lure you to eventually opt for monthly subscription instead of not paying anything every month like the regular Njoi, which for them it is money losing business.
As long you pay money to them for whatever stuff, they're happy already.

Sounds like these are the efforts and strategies from their Customer Retention Specialist, or some marketing tactics.

yeah. of course astro would want people to give them constant $$ by signing up astro normal package.

There is such saying that one needs to keep the NJOI setup box on often else the service will be suspended. Got such thug?

sharing my experience to convert my astro PVR setup box to NJOI which i think it will be very useful for anyone who wants to convert as well. it is hard to find real life personal experience sharing anymore especially the recent one.

I had been on astro tv packages for more than 3 to 4 years at least as of now. so no contract anymore. a lot of the same tvb dramas had been repeated for multiple times. time to ditch astro tv package to save rm113++ monthly (my current subscription fee).

S Family+Dy 23/11/19 - 22/12/19 86.87
S Jade Pack 23/11/19 - 22/12/19 53.00
S Discount for Jade Pack 23/11/19 - 22/12/19 -37.10
S Personal Video Recorder S 23/11/19 - 22/12/19 10.60
Total New Charges (Jumlah Caj Baru) 113.37
(my this package is actually cheaper than adding each of them ala carte together, price incl. SST)

I called in to astro general line 03 - 9543 3838 (Daily 8am - 12am) to terminate my astro tv package on 17 dec 2019. Expectly, the astro CSO asked me why i wanted to cancel, i just told her that i did not want to pay so much monthly. Suprisingly, she did not offer me any kind of promo package etc. Upon checking my account, i got rm0 balance and no more contract. She said my TV packages would be terminated on 22 Dec 2019. She said I did not need to return my equipment including the setup box everything since no more contract. (obviously no need to create any 'hope' at all in order to terminate). I think by default, they just simply do not request for equipment return. I think this may link to one has a good account with them during the stay? I never paid my bill late for the past many years. Not to mention, mine is PVR version of the setup box.

On yesterday 22 Dec 2019 around 00:10am++, my astro setup box can no longer access to any programme.

Today 23 Dec 2019, I called up the same general line to request to convert to NJOI using my existing equipment. Without any much conversation needed, the CSO said it can be done and it costs rm50. Obviously based on the experience for some, it costs rm15.90 to convert to NJOI. However, I double checked with CSO, she said it indeed cost rm15.90 only previously to convert, however the promo price had ended in August or September. Now the price to convert is rm50. Although I did not manage to get the good price of rm15.90 for the conversion, but i dun mind to pay rm50 which is a one time cost to convert to NJOI since I can watch AEC channel and subscribe XingHe channel if i want. Therefore, i proceed with the conversion. The CSO said the conversion will take 3 to 5 working days. Therefore, next week i should be able to enjoy the NJOI already. Overall, not too bad for anyone with existing unused setup box if they terminate their astro TV packages since the box can be reused without the need to pay rm405 for a new set of equipment to enjoy NJOI. rm50 vs rm405, it is still quite worth it. This saves the trouble of getting another NJOI to be installed. Importantly, save the rm113 monthly in long run is not bad. Can use the money for other things.

I read online, there were some did not even pay rm15.90 to convert but pay rm400++ to get a new set of equipment to enjoy NJOI. Obviously many years back, this conversion cannot even be done. One still need to pay hundreds to convert even using existing equipment from astro and not getting new set of equipment for NJOI (might as well install a new NJOI set).

Wow RM50 for the conversion, easy job just some click on the system I think.
No lah, all this while conversion is available, just that they try not to make known so both Astro installer can earn hefty amount by installing the equipment. Told you mine was converted years back on their online campaign without paying.

BTW, 2 months back I purchased used NJOI HD decoder with smart card from online seller for RM250. Seller said his budget hotel has to ceased operation so selling out those items. Bought it because my old non-HD decoder don't have digital audio output, and I found the analog audio has limited on treble-high (someone here shared capped at 13-15kHz).

Yes. If the Njoi set top box is not powered on for more than 14 days, the account will be suspended (cuz for them, it's considered as inactive user).
But you can reactivate it back, either by sending an SMS (follow instructions shown on screen), or at https://selfservice.astro.com.my/ or call customer service to do it. It's free to reactivate it back.

Yea la... They want us to wait for days on something that can be done by just a few clicks.
Anything that bring disadvantage to them, surely they'll give you some difficulties, take longer time to get things done.

If u convert from njoi to Astro is free.

Rm50 no choice must pay. Cannot be waiting for the unknown free promo again.

Still better than buying new set with installation.

Just curious since yours is PVR model, there's HDD inside for recording right? The recording is manual set method (like older day VCR) or programmed by Astro? I mean after you shift to NJOI do you think still able to do recording?

Of course not.
Astro will disable the PVR functionalities for your PVR box, so you won't be able to use any PVR functions anymore once you switch to Njoi.
It's just that Astro no need to waste money on customers to assign installer to go to customer's premise and replace from PVR to a HD box, so they rather let you keep whatever you have, and just "change your account settings from their side".

That way, it saves cost for them. After all, their mentality is like, why should we give you so much after sales benefits if you're not paying us monthly anymore?
Cuz after that, if you face any technical issues (after sales service that requires technician to visit your premise to fix), you got to pay for the technical service fee for sure.

Anyhow, take good care of your Astro box, cuz you're on your own now. Even if technical issues happen to you, whether is caused by you, or it spoil by itself due to lightning strike, manufacturing problem, satellite dish misalignment, or anything, that's all on you. Astro don't care anymore. If you want Astro to "care" and come fix it for you, then they'll talk about money already. Simple. So better is you learn to troubleshoot on technical issues that you can fix yourself.

yup. but so far so good, no technical issues encountered.

To me, can reuse the unit, it is already a bonus. initially I already plan to pay rm405 to install NJOI.

Do note that this thread is about Njoi, not Astro.
If you wanna enquire about Astro 4K UHD, ask here 😁:
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/4574137

You can call Astro Ultra department (and also the marketing department) at 03-74908000, tell them your address and they'll check it for you.

For Astro unfortunately, they are straightforward. Once converted to Njoi, then you are Njoi for real dy... They don't care if you were once Astro subscriber or not.

Njoi viewers today can only watch TV channels using the Astro/Njoi box connected to satellite dish, and no chance for online streaming like Astro Go or Njoi Now app (already dead).

Reading at android thread , are njoi now apps is gone ?
Tried login to atog but it said only for astro customer only.No luck getting getting njoi working on apps ?

It is previously mentioned that Njoi Now is already no more.

From 30 Sept 2019, Njoi Now will cease and no longer available, including Njoi Now mobile apps and website.

So yea, Astro Go only for Astro customers. Njoi customers enjoy nothing, but only the TV and radio channels using the Njoi box.
If you interested to use the app to watch your shows, ask your family or friends that has Astro Go to share their Astro ID account credentials (email and password) with you.

Similar like Netflix's RM51/month plan, users can now stream up to 4 concurrent devices at the same time from the same Astro Go account.

Like I said earlier, 4 different devices at the same time.
If you have trouble logging in Astro ID that you've linked to an Astro subscription before, you can contact Astro customer service for them to help you recover the account.
