I think it's time we pressure the Philippines to weed out this terrorist. We also offer our forces to help hunt down this 'scums'. Put them out of their sorry lives.

If need be, bring in their ally US to help out. Since they like to wage war so much.

true true
PRfags are not wrong when they urge the gov to spend wisely/thrift with the monehh.
imagine how much money can be saved IF gov stop giving free car with hired driver for some officials, stop giving free smartphones/half-sponsored smartphones for their officials, cut unnecessary allowances, stop hire caterer during meeting, stop using hotels for gov meetings, stop using resorts for kursus2, etc..
yeah, i'm also a bit annoyed seeing gov workers dah gaji 5 angka but still get allowances here and there..and dah pangkat MB also can get elaun minyak..
those waste + cut BRIM/BB1M money can get our armed forces the advanced weapons like Israel have in their arsenal + strength up to 800,000 active troops..

Not that. Because their GDP grow so much, they still maintain same percentage of GDP for defense budget. Indonesia will be one of new economic giant in future.

You forget the cost of upgrading the whole shipyard.
the current project pretty much benefits the future procurement.
*
Are you saying the rakyat is paying for the shipyard upgrade? Does the govn have any share in BNS? If the govn have share, it is okay to pump in money as part of additional capital invested but if not, it is not right to use public fund. Any examples of other country govn finance upgrade to private facility at the expense of rakyat?

MMEA To Obtain Additional Petir Boats For ESSCOM

Posted on May 5, 2014 by hafizuddinsulaiman

The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA)’s fleet of patrol boats and vessels in the ESSCOM will be further strengthen through the deployment of additional Petir class interceptor boats in order to better boost the safety of Sabah’s east coast waters.

user posted image

Nine of these Petir boats built by Dalac Marine would undergo tests by MMEA personnel to ensure their safety before being deployed. With maximum speed of 65 knots, these boats are able to covered 40 nautical miles of range within three to four hours during a single patrol sweep.

Beside deploying additional interceptor boats, the MMEA will expand its surveillance radars coverage in order to detect small, intruding boats approaching the Malaysian waters.

The MMEA also plans to establish two coast guard air stations in Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan with proposed aviation fleet of two aircraft and six helicopters.

The numbers of MMEA personnel deployed in Sabah will also being increased to 1000 men by the end of 2014 from the existing 800 men.

In June 2013, the MMEA received 10 Kilat class boats transported by the RMN Auxilliary vessel, Bunga Mas 6 in order to boost the coast guard agency’s strength and capability to maintain vigilance over the Malaysian international waters against the terrorists intrusion. (here)

The RMN itself is preparing to receive 12 additional CB 90 combat boats to boost the strength of the existing fleet deployed to Sabah’s east coast.

DALAC Marine had previously delivered five five new Rigid Hull Fender Boat (RHFB) worth RM 4.4 million to the Marine Police to boost the security levels of Sabah’s waters especially along the east coast of the state.

TNI’s Apache choppers to be equipped with Lockheed technology

Bagus BT Saragih, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | National | Tue, May 06 2014, 2:07 PM

US-based aerospace and security company Lockheed Martin has announced it had won a US$80.6 million contract, which includes the production of night vision technology for eight Boeing AH-64E Apache attack helicopters ordered by Indonesia.

The contract covers eight Modernized Target Acquisition Designation Sight/Pilot Night Vision Sensor (M-TADS/PNVS) systems for the US Army and nine systems for the Indonesian Army, according to a press release published at Lockheed’s official website www.lockheedmartin.com on May 5.

Indonesia is the 13th international customer to purchase the M-TADS/PNVS system. The contract extends production in Orlando and Ocala, Fla., through July 2016, the release states.

“Being able to 'bundle' our procurement with one of our Foreign Military Sales partners increases our buying power,” said Lt. Col. Steven Van Riper, US Army Apache Sensors Product Manager.

“The M-TADS/PNVS system is helping save lives of our US and allied troops by giving Apache pilots the ability to engage targets accurately, and by improving situational awareness,” added Matt Hoffman, M-TADS/PNVS program director at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, as quoted in the statement.

The confirmation of the sales of eight Apache helicopters and Longbow radars worth US$500 million to the Indonesian Military (TNI) was made during a bilateral meeting between Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro and US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel in Jakarta in August, last year.

The deal includes pilot training, radars and maintenance. The helicopters are scheduled to arrive in Indonesia in phases from October 2014 to 2017.

The TNI has said it would base some of the Apaches in remote border areas such as in Natuna in the Riau Islands.

Lockheed states that the M-TADS/PNVS, which was fielded in 2005, is a targeting and pilotage system that provides Apache pilots with long-range, precision engagement and pilotage capabilities for safe flight during day, night and adverse weather missions. Lockheed Martin has delivered more than 1,200 M-TADS/PNVS systems and spares to the U.S. Army and international customers.

The Apache deal with the US marked a turn around in the Jakarta-Washington defense cooperation as it served as the largest military sale from the US since the country lifted its embargo on selling lethal arms to Indonesia in 2005.

Washington said it was determined to help build the capability of the TNI as part of its bid to enhance security ties with its Asia Pacific friends and reshape its role in the region amid Beijing’s growing military clout and territorial assertiveness.

Esscom exchanged fire with 5 gunmen in hot pursuit of kidnappers

KOTA KINABALU: Malaysian security forces exchanged fire with five gunmen after their boat was detected at 6.20am within Mataking waters off Semporna.
Special task force and marine personnel of the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) were in hot pursuit of the armed men who kidnapped Chinese national Yang Zai Lin, 34, from a fish farm near Pulau Baik off Silam, Lahad Datu.

Yang, who is a manager of Wonderful Terrace Sdn Bhd, was taken from the farm centre at 2.45am by the gunmen who fled in a boat towards the open sea.

Sabah police commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib said the suspects were believed to have changed to another boat with bigger horsepower before making their way towards Mataking waters.

"When security forces detected their boat, one of the gunmen opened fire forcing security personnel to retaliate while chasing them," he said in a press conference.

The gunmen fled towards Alice Reef, between Malaysian and Philipines water border, and entered Saluag village in the Southern Sibutu Island of the southern Philippine.

"Our security forces had entered the Philippines waters and were forced to withdraw for fear of their safety."

Hamza classified the case as kidnapping for ransom and did not rule out inside job.

He said two of the gunmen were wearing masks and in camouflage uniforms.

They were armed with M16 while others were in civilian clothings.

BNS belong to Boustead Holdings Bhd, which is GLC, Angkatan Tabong Angkatan Tentera have majority share.
For defense industry is different from other consumer industry, quantity purchase is low and mostly need customization base one every country requirement, it involved alot top secrete high tech system and equipment which not easy original company make investment in other country, so for small country want to improve/learn they defense industry, local high tech/heavy industry and improve engineer ability usually get TOT(TRANSFER OF TECHNOLOGY) or IP ( intellectual property) via government defense purchase.
Is not only happened in Malaysia, it happens in a lot country in world via defense purchase. you can study military weapon purchase example like Indonesia and Thailand, there buy mostly got some TOT and IP. also can see India make assembly line for su-30mki.
Other big example is Algeria purchase 2 unit (include option 2 unit) Blohm + Voss Meko 200 frigate with huge price usd 2.8 billion, shock in the contract include built a brand new shipyard in Algeria port to future own built other 2 option meko 200, the shipyard also used to maintenance of Meko 200, so it benefit Algeria shipping industry with infrastructure of shipyard.
