Rev2 of the SFF club is now opened in the spirit of the original SFF club of 2004.

So post your Shuttles (whatever happened to all the shuttle folks these days) and others here.

To start it off, just came across this casing that's popping up all over the shops in Taipei. It's sold in Taipei under the J-power brand for less than RM200!!!!!! That's less than half the price of Silverstone's SUG01. Pretty damn good deal lor.

It fits a standard ATX psu and MATX board with a mobo tray!!!. With all the MOD (mobile on desktop) boards coming around in matx form factor...and the T-force crowd, I think this could be big.


After a lil googling, it seems that it's also known under a few different names, Aspire Q-pack and Ultra Microfly among them...

Could this be the future of SFF?

nice casing but i dislike cube type of case, cause its just doesn't look good. they either try to imitate apple's design, or they just wanna shrink everything small.

btw, i notice that this casing is portable. noticable handle on the front panel

When SFF's first came out...especially the pretty Shuttles... many ppl were tempted including myself. But then the proprietory board hence lack of upgrades were the main turn-off.

But now we see so many interesting Matx boards out there...like the earlier mentioned T-force, the 945 speedsters and the conroe boards... and now with a casing like this..

Will this be the final blow to the immobile, space hogging tower casings?

Actually if any of u guys want I can bring in from Singapore for Rm250; its the same except the casing is silver in colour.

i think this is more on the Lan party side, minus the good looks to show off and minus multiple drives unless you install a massive hard drive into it. This casing is more geared towards gamers joining tourney or lan party

These case with tight compartment, most likely suffers heat issue. todays hardcore pc components are so hot, they can cook an egg

J-power nice casing and very similar to the Aspire Q-pack. Been looking for the Aspire Q-pack but not available in M'sia or S'pore. Won't be surpised if the J-power manufacturer is the OEM manufacturer for Aspire Q-pack. I would love to get my hands on it - any chance of bulk order??? If yes, put me down for 1 unit although I wont be upgrading my System for another 1.0 - 1.5 yrs (UT2007!!!) :-)

I like this box better than the regular SFFs like my Biostar IDEQ 200N as space is a premium and airflow is not good at all without modding. My IDEQ fried my Ti4200 graphic card within 3 months after I upgraded to IDEQ 200N from my Coolermaster casing. After I changed to Ati 9800SE o/c to 9800Pro, I have modified my IDEQ casing for added cooling. Had my IDEQ 200N since 2004.

The only problem with the J-Power/Aspire Q-pack is that there are limited motherboards on M-ATX form factor available in M'sia that supports overclocking features. Aspire Q-packs are quite popular in Europe and US market as their market supports M-ATX mobos......

Or for those student folks that needs occasional mobility.

hrm...nowaydays everyone would take either mini (SFF) or extra large (full server) but i think it all goes for design and purpose.

too bad those can only support mini ATX, there is not much support from manufacturers in the high-performance mini-atx arena, with shuttle the only one supporting SLI in ther SFF. >.< after my ideq incident, unless there is a high performance, well-designed system from other manufacturers, i guess shuttle will only release its enthusiast SFFs next year -_________-

That's the interesting part (though it makes the case look fat). Due to the HTPC push, there's more and more MATX mobos in the market now...with even more coming soon.

err im referring to SFF cases in general, like the Aopen gaming cube, MATX.

dont know bout micro ATX boards though, but PSU shopping can be a biatch in malaysia if you're looking into microatx cases :headache:

Dood...they all use normal ATX psu di..hence the bigger size.

The way I look at it, the only downside for cases like these is the comparitive airflow vs a tower and the lack of HDD bays (though a theoratical 3 bays are enough for most folks).

So....would you get one?

I'd get a SN27P2 for my AM2 move.

But it'd be a shame to dump some fairly new parts like a Liberty and also a PC-61 that's been modded for silence.
I'm not too bothered by lack of expandability since I don't forsee myself needing a big change after this and I'm the kind of person who uses a single HDD (in the intents of lower noise and heat emissions) anyway. Hell it might even be cheaper if I could get a decent price for all the stuff I'd sell compared to if I just went out and bought a freakin expensive M2N32-SLI.

i had my barebone from Shuttle last time for sc 478......

it served me well until the day i had switch to higher end graphic card....

the mobo and PSU gone after 3 months of using it without much intensive gaming...

the same goes for my brother's shuttle ... he had the same problem by running X850XTPE the time...

ever since that i would said mATX has better securement as compared to those SFF with custom mobo..... which u can't get any replacement after warranty is due...

nahh shuttles have better performance than the rest of the SFF barebone packages.

in fact, if you don't try to OC it to the max (which is a hard thing to do since they have great OC features and the boards are mighty stable)

and basically if you cram lots of hot stuff in, i wouldn't be surprised why it died so quickly.

cut a big hole and chuck a nice 200cfm fan inside. that should solve the heat problem

Yeah buddy... its like matx boards these days are abundant, there's nice cases for it (which in most cases, look better than their ATX counterparts) but reading around the LYN, it still seems that the form factor can't shake off its budget image.

As you know, Shuttle was doing motherboards and almost went out of business until they started the XPC business... and we used to laugh when ppl use shuttle boards...hahahahha. Of course with XPC, their image is different but did their product actually improve, this part I dunno.

lol even low end shuttles are priced sky high nowadays...the sn25p is still 1.8k
and as for their quality - better now, with reliability issues lessening with each model

Gua kata matx ler... seems like ppl still think of it as mobos for boring companies and budget systems.

Back on Shuttles, they're really killing themselves like that cos they no longer have the market to themselves. There's the mac mini's and Aopen mini's (along with the many others that hasn't launched yet) that's smaller than them..... and the more flexible mATX form factor.

They did try to have an entry level product though... SS59G and SK21G selling for around RM600 but the chipsets are just pathetic.

Lol well hey I never found the need for many HDDs since I rarely use up a lot of disk space. Anything I download is burned to DVD except for music which I use daily, so it's fine by me.
The HDD is the loudest thing in my rig anyway, so adding another would be a drastic difference.

Back on topic though, I just realized the SN27P2 only uses USB mice/keyboards, which sucks a lil since that will force me to change my keyboard and possibly my MX1000 as well since it has jumping issues on USB which is why I'm using it on PS2.

However, the low price of the AM2 mobos are also such that I might just stick to my LianLi. After all, RM410 for a M2N-E is irresistable for someone who doesn't need SLI.

What application are you gonna use with the ML600? You do know that there's people who makes more powerful calculators than the 600Mhz Eden.

Don't la use this board to watch DVD or play MP3... This board is small and fast enough to run embedded applications like controlling robortic arm. security, etc

I think that if building your own, it's better to get the fanless board. So that we don't have to worry much about the ventilation for the casing. However, most fanless will not be that powerful if you are looking at using it for 3D gaming. If for normal browsing, office apps, playing dvd and mp3, i think there are many fanless board that can support these.

I reckon you would've already gotten your ITX setup huh?

That Qpack thing here berlambak and cheap too. Was really thinking about buying one but it's not small by any means. Summore the quality is really crappy... sub Icute like.

The shop displayed it next to the Silverstone SG01.. yeah I know the price is more than double of the "Qpack" but it's like comparing a BMW 7 series and run down 10 year old Kancil in comparison. ( a 7 series cost more than 10x kancil ...so SG01E is value right )

Really cannot accept ler...its THAT bad. The alu used is really soft (don't know if its really anodised or not) and the whole chassis flexes.

Cooling performance wise...Qpack seems to be better but the SG01-E provided with extra cash can be improved as well.

Like using the NT06 Nitrogen cooler fanlessly in conjunction with a 12cm fan'ed PSU.
Add the crossflow fan....which the interweb says drops 5-6C off the mobo temp.

i think the trend would head to this direction. There are some cube cases from manufacturers like Antec, maybe we'll even see some from Coolermaster or Thermaltake later.

how would you review Coolermaster Centurion RC-541? Review from Hardwarezone praises it for its sturdiness but the BTX origins seems like a big turn off. But price wise, its darned cheap.

The ML01 Milo. Apparently all the rumours about a replacement model for SG01 are just that..rumours. The Milo on the other hand is what I think as the ideal HTPC dimension wise. Just nice to throw in a Merom.

The power consumption don't lie wan.. check out the power consumption thread in hardware. The rig idling with the Conroe @ stock speed makan as much power as my overclocked A64 at load

I'll be building a HTPC one of these days...and I'll go with an AMD solution lor.

This is y we design the SG01. If anything spoilt after 1 year u still manage to get the replacement component. Somemore it allow u to fix any type of ATX power supply nnot like Shuttle u cannot upgrade.

Here's my take to it lar...speaking strictly on my personal point of view.

Shuttle XPC's:- Sexxxxy lil things but they ARE expensive
- Never fully trusted Shuttle as a quality motherboard manufacturer.
- Being proprietory form factor, it limits the choice of motherboards.

Silverstone SG01E:- Uber Sexxxxyy especially in black
- Motherboard choices galore.
- Very limited choice of heatsink fans as there's only 78mm of clearance between psu and socket. Personally, I wouldn't build anything more than a Modt or AMD X2 EE system with it.
- Just the right size...doesn't look too bulky.
- Relatively expensive...relative comparing to Lian Li atx towers etc....not compared with Icutes

Qpack/Microfly/Whatever else they call it.
- Better cooling than the SG01E
- Horrendously built... I've seen better quality material on Coke cans
- The dimension doesn't say much but visually, it's huge to the point of being cumbersome. Sorta defies the need for a SFF at the first place
- Cheap

TT Lanbox
- Might appeal to the "MTV...please pimp my box" crowd but not fer me.
- As fashion coordinated as Phua Chu Kang
- Expensive

Silverstone TJ08- It's not a shoebox case but it actually takes a smaller footprint than the above

The reason I re-started this SFF thread is because I was going through another one of those SFF phase in life...so I was intensively shopping/researching everything there is to these cases.

Anyhow, crunch time came a couple weeks back when I finally decided to get one of those qpack/microfly thingy (same crappy plastic front panel and soft alu... fitting's better on the "microfly" version..ur right).

The shop that I went to displayed 3 various versions of the above along with a host of Silverstone casings including the SG01E.

I wanted so much to buy the damn thing....even withdrew money from ATM di.... but really tak sampai hati lor.

To quote my wife : " You sure?... why not just buy this one (pointing at black SG01E) "

As some forumers knows...my other half isn't exactly very enthuasiastic about my "upgrade rig" hobby.

The case is pricey due to the quality but as what i know built a system with SG01 will not cost more than the Shuttle. Somemore if the parts componet got problem u can get another replacement easily.
