How Much Do I Have To Earn Before Filing Income Tax?
For most residents of Malaysia, the key figure to take note of is about "RM30,672 per year (about RM2,556 per month after EPF deductions)" which is inclusive of all benefits, allowances, bonuses, overtime and commissions. If you're earning anywhere below that figure, then there's no need for you to open up a file for tax to be deducted from your income (while the con is that you're probably not earning as much as you'd like, the pro is that there's less hassle from a tax perspective!).

I think, statement below is more updated

QUOTE
Under Budget 2015, tax payers with family and income of RM4,000 per month will not have tax liability.  Individual income taxes will be restructured whereby the chargeable income subject to the maximum rate will be increased from above RM100,000 to RM400,000.

Your link is for YA2015, & mine is YA2014. Yes, RM4,000 is correct for YA2015 but not for YA2014 which is RM30,672!

savemoney.my used "malaysia-income-tax-guide-2015" for YA2014, not YA2015. Click my link first before commenting. TQ

I have a question require experts' help.

Last year I had a sign-on bonus and it is included in EA form. I resigned last month and by honoring the contract I had to return the bonus in full. Is the bonus taxable?

Consider the below scenario.

Let's say, early 2014, I joined Company A with a sign on bonus of RM100k with a contractual bond of 1 year. If I leave within the the bond period I have to repay back full amount of RM100K back to Company A. Then I got an offer from company B by the end of 2014, and decided to break the bond and pay the full amount of RM100K to company A.

Question: Will I get taxed for the RM100K bonus that that I never had in 2014?

I didn't deny or comment about your link.. I've read your link and the first line of the page already mention it's for year 2014, which you never mention in your post.

Since the 'rate' already change, I guess it is better I put extra information about the current 'rate' (min monthly income), so that any newcomers who start working this year can have some pictures whether he/she needs to file income tax next year or not.

I thought "Jenis Pendapatan" for yester-years should be "Penggajian". You just fill in your gross income (Section B of your EA form) and your EPF deduction. That's all.

The "PCB Yang Telah Dibayar" is only meant for current year of assessment. You can't amend it.

I have no idea then. Sorry can't help you. You may want to pay a visit to the nearest LHDN office.

Just wondering if I can claim for my son's medical+education insurance..it's under my wife's name but I'm the one who's paying for it. Refering to here Question 56 seems can but not sure if still valid..since it's 2010's FAQ and LHDN was still using .org.my at that time huhuhu http://www.hasil.org.my/pdf/pdfam/FAQBE.pdf

I think I found some answer for you:

QUOTE

Just file it, simple as that. Got account or not?
