Hi all sifu's,

Need your guidance. I'm setting up a new home theatre room in my new house. Plan to setup for 7.1 speakers system. The room size is 20ft (L) x 9.5ft (W) x 9ft (H).

I have an existing AVR ONKYO TX-NR616 which is 7.2 ready

What is your recommendation if I allow a budget of 3k-5k for whole new set of speakers and sub-woofer?

Any shops to recommend too? KL/Selangor area.

Thanks in advance!

Just wondering what is the weigh between AVR and speakers when come to delivery of good sound effects?

How do I know if my AVR is good enough / not good enough for the home theatre?

If the AVR is powerful enough, then all I need to worry is the speakers only right?

Sorry for the primitive questions..... rclxub.gif

"and prepare to get slaughtered".....well said man! This is exactly what I feel when I step into those hi-fi shops.....all the speakers brands with strange names, no market rates to compare with, suspicious wiring to confuse you which speakers actually produce the sounds, etc, etc.....sigh!

Anyone can share their experience if it is worth exploring getting the speakers from Amazon or even Taobao? Singapore shops any cheaper? Worth the effort?

Well,

Not tat l want to defend a B&M store but they are in it for the business of making money, if its a charity - then yes , can sell cheap .. but they offer some expertise and if you literally dont know anyting, then they can guide you and tat needs compensation - nuthing is free in tis world..
Of cos, if u are tech savvy then you can buy online - n de reason its cheaper from tis shops is

1. economies of scale - they buy in bulk from the manu - hence they can get a bigger discount which they in turn pass to the buyer..
2. they dont pay rental/instalment payment to the bank and in most instances they dont need any experienced staff either..

I personally would get local then to buy online as there is a question of warranty and also .. to me , a hassle as if you are unlucky : all e-gear will need SIRIM cert - not to mention kena tax [ which is inclusive of shipping] Or
Buy used - althou' tis is a question of timing as there really isnt a very big pre-owned market out there..
If indeed, u dont have any experience in getting audio gear, then best bet is to get used gear of the big hifi shops - most of this is traded in n in most instances the shop has vetted em - less chance of getting a lemon [thou no guarantee] n since u hv no idea wat sound u like yet, this most fits the bill..

Well you can hunt for a cheap second-hand avr for your speakers, but you'll probably be out of luck if your sub is not powered.

Your sub is passive type, look for those avr that support passive sub, but very rare in the market.

Or, buy an amp and attach to it. Then it is compatible most avr out there

Hi there,

I'm looking for a tradesman who can help me install a home theater system. Didn't buy it from Malaysia hence I doubt those Home Theater resellers are going to do it for me.

Anyone knows of any installer please let me know.

Thanks

Hi there,

I would just like to enquire a little about best sound quality positioning of a home theater system. I have bought a Bose System Home Theater System and would like to try to install it myself. I would just like to ask you guys about some acoustic qualities of a basic installation setup.

Perhaps a little background. The space comprises of a length between the back wall and front wall of about 13 feet. This is a living room hence, the 2 sides are not specifically covered. I plan to install the speakers on these front and back walls. The sofa will be placed 10 feet from the front and the sitting position around 2 feet from the ground.

My plan is to install 2 side speakers and the centre speakers on the front wall flanking a 65 inch TV. How far and how high should these front speakers be (if taking the centre point of the TV as reference)? For the height, should it be the height of the person seated or can I place it on the TV console which is approximately 30cm off the ground?

As for the back speakers, they will be approximately 3 feet from the sofa. I would like to mount it on the wall at around 10 ft height. Will this be optimal or would it be better if it was at the same height as the front speakers.

Should I also mount the centre speakers or should I just leave it on the console which is 30cm off ground?

Any advise is appreciated.

Thanks
