Thank you for the useful info, noted with thanks.
How about a used Forte? For example,
this one?
You seem to gravitate towards powerful and high tech cars.
Here is the thing about it.
Cars like Mazda3, Civic and Forte you see on the used car market have specs better than the rest and usually are on the bleeding edge of technology when they were launched. However, that always means they will be more expensive to maintain. Cars like Toyota Vios are cheap to maintain and buy parts because from first until current generation they've been using the same engine/gearbox with tweaks between new models but essentially still the same engine with many compatible parts between the models. Cars like Mazda3 and Civic use all new technology mostly for their newer models or their parts/technology is shared with D-segment models making them good parts but expensive to buy as lesser economics of scale.

Thanks for the help!
1999 Perodua Kembara 1.3 - one thing about buying cars in this price range you'll either end up with very hightech and safe but expensive to maintain cars like Ford, Renault, Citroen, etc. or very cheap to maintain but lacking safety features like Kancil. I think the Perodua Kembara is a decent car for the asking price. It is higher up the road so you get better view and don't need to worry much about floods except really serious ones. Cars in the price range usually don't have much in terms of safety features like traction control, airbags, etc. So you have to make due with things like disc brakes, ABS, and bigger body. An SUV type body like the Kembara is better to be in because you're higher up the ground so in a car to car accident scenario a car would usually hit your lower bumper and tires. Maintenance wise it is a cheap car to maintain and get parts for, as long as the engine, gearbox and aircon doesn't have any issues it is good enough as other things like mountings and absorbers are considered consumables thus would need replacing at some point which is why with your budget is 8k, look for something 6/7k so u got 1k for any repairs/replacements needed.
1996 Proton Wira 1.6XLI - this is a good price for a possibly good car, it is rare to find a completely stock looking Wira 1.6 nowadays, from the pictures it looks well taken care of like a car only 5 years old not 20 years old. The reason why people still go for Wira especially at this price range is the ease of getting it maintained and the low cost of ownership, parts are abundant and cheap. You can either use Proton/Mitsubishi/recon/used parts depending on your budget. I want to show you the 1.6xli because this one has a 4AT gearbox while the other 1.3/1.5 wira/satria all uses 3AT gearbox which is rock solid in terms of reliability however tends to make the car under powered and not too fuel efficient. However, please remember about safety. I used to drive one of these and I can say they're not very tough small fender benders and the car looks like it was in a 100kmh accidents. I think the body isn't very strong. However, if you need something for work the home only then this would be good choice especially if your house isn't too close to your office. Comfortable car too. Just on safety aspect not up to par.
1996 Nissan Sentra 1.6 - back then 1600cc was top spec for C-segment cars so there isn't a bigger 1800cc variant for this model if you're wondering. This is the famous Sentra with the Genting Taxi heritage, although this model is newer than the Genting Taxi model it is still old, however don't worry too much about it's age. In terms of getting parts and maintenance there are no issues. The maintenance of the 3 cars I show you are in the same ballpark, with the Kembara having a smaller engine possibly cheaper (as you can use cheaper engine oil). However, in terms of fuel economy the Sentra comes out tops. If you prefer a sedan and are concerned about safety then I guess this would be relatively safer than the Wira.
