Want to buy a new/used car. Saw these list of cars on carlist. Any sifu can recommend whether it's worth buying? or better off a new car? conti car is quite attractive but heard maintenance fee expensive.

Was wandering anyone here knows about the price to have a S-class W221 model checked by mercedes. (maybe getting a 2nd hand version year 2008) a sales rep from mercedes (Hap Seng Star) Sri Kembangan quoted me an estimated RM2K just to have the car checked only, which i am shocked.

Can anyone share any experience on this?

Just to update and get additional feedback. Saw a W221 model this afternoon. It is a S300L year 2007 with a mileage of approx 80K. Found a workshop in Gombak that could check the car. He found that there was no electronic concern but there was leaking oil and the compressor was louder then it should be indicating a possible issue. Few other parts as well were a problem but fixable. The rear tires were worn and need to be replaced. The rear dust cover for the airmatic was totally torn. But driving the car there is no sound or knocking to be heard.

The Mechanic said it is fixable based on what he can see with an approx cost of RM5- 6K. This does not include the tires & airmatic dust cover replacement which apparently is not possible since it normally comes as an entire set.

as for the bluetooth settings, it seems like only C&C can do it and i was able to speak to a technician from the C&C in batu caves that says it would most likely need an update only and the cost of this check can be about RM300/hour. So he recommends to do the whole car check for about RM1K

So would this car be worth the effort to have it fixed up with the knowledge we have now of its condition? The sale Price of course will have to be reduced due to the work that would need to be done.

Well the S-Class will be for a long term keep.
as for the maintenance cost - well yes i believe i have reviewed well enough (i hope) and would be comfortable with its wear and tear.

With this specific car that i saw today, well was not expecting those issues. So i guess what concerns me is - if even before buying its already having this issues, wat more will crop up.

And the rear airmatic having its dust covers totally torn is one of the bigger concern - how much dirt may have already gone it and how soon its going to fail

In point (2), thanks for suggestions but there are rather general. One thing i know is to match engine number with car grant. But now since everything can be tampered, so the seller can also fake the car grant and plate number just to sell a stolen car (forgive my wild imagination). How can the buyer validate it or which process can prevent this kind of case?
1.Can we say that buying with bank loan can eliminate this risk since bank will verify the car grant and the engine number etc?
2.Will JPJ do the verification to check whether its a stolen car during transfer of ownership process?
3.Can the buyer do verification himself with JPJ/Polis before putting down the deposit?

Sorry for my over-worried because since most forumers said prevent for scammer when buying used car, so was wondering how the scam works and how to prevent?

seem like e46 is a bit costly to maintain (just peek the bmw malaysia club forum and see all of their bills), so it takes me back to Audi. Can i ask what do u think about this Audi A4 '00, the price is unbelievably cheap, so cheap till wonder if this car is busted. What is ur opinion bout very cheap price car like this, is it still a go or need to reconsider 1000x

I wanted to get some understanding of used car dealers.

Having a touch choice to choose between 2 cars (A w212 2010 E300 local & 2010 E250 UK spec)  had test driven the E250 today all good. so thought will also check out the E300 and then do final decision

The E250 sales guys no issues in managing my request and test drive and all. Did not even ask for deposit b4 test drive.

The E300 sales guy - wah another story..Planned with the dealer for appointment and then he says need to pay security deposit of about RM4K (prefers cash but agreed for a cheque eventually)

Then he says, if we like the test drive and no issues with the inspection but choose not to buy then deposit burn straight. WTF!!

Can dealers actually do this? Is this legal? We all have a right to check in detail and choose right?

Boss the e46 < 20k is it > 2003 model or the pre-facelift 99-02 models? Really interested in getting one but so far all >= 35k for facelifted models.

For around 40~55K budget,
I was first inclined to look for an NEW Iriz 1.6 MT, but family commented its kinda small.
Recommended USED Preve 1.6 MT instead.

Then while considering the USED Preve 1.6 MT, I thought, why not add a lil extra to get a USED Inspira 1.8 MT instead since the only reason I skip Inspira for Iriz is to lower my budget.

So between these 3,
New Iriz 1.6 MT (+ newer model, + newest tech, - small capacity)
Used Preve 1.6 MT (+ big capacity, - outdated engine? )
Used Inspira 1.8 MT (+ lots of aftermarket parts, + essentially a Mitsu, - clutch problem?)

would love to hear some comments, pros and cons etc from experienced car owner here.

Well we inquired hard and try to get him to come to a reasonable term (if its only like 100 /200 would not have mind as much but to burn 4K just because i like another car a little more then his its bonkers)

He eventually gave us the ultimatum and said he does not want to proceed. But its so annoying. He is being ridiculous with the demand i personally feel.
