Need some advise. Amongst 3M, V-Kool & Llumar .. which tint and grade offers the best TSER & security?

I have installed Llumar Diamond 6 for security in my previous ride but the heat rejection isn't that good. I'm looking for a change. Oh, it has to be within the VLT guidelines and for the front, Smart Tag friendly.

After reading and browsing through several threads about tint, here's a bit of my personal opinion base on what I read and my brief visit to 2 reputable shops. Some of the technical information and package can be found in this threads, website, and other forums. I hope any sellers from these 2 companies is fine with it.

Firstly, I owned a 10-years old car with a reputable tint (Air Cool) which applied since then. That time, my tint cost around 1.5k-2k (it was long time ago), had my front windscreen tore once (due to JPJ inspection), and was warranted with new tint by the shop. After so many years, the tint has faded, reduce to 80-90% VLT. Nevertheless, it still reject heat quite well. Not as good as new, but definitely better than bare. Take about 15 minutes to properly cool the car under hot sun, and I can still drive at noon with half air-conditioning without feeling uncomfortable.

Anyway, I came across and visited Huper Optik and Raytech tint shop recently, surprise to find their shop to be quite close to one another. Here's my observation, purely opinion, for the price of ~RM2k:

Huper Optik
Side/Rear: C50S (security tint) / C50 (non-security tint, on paper slightly better heat rejection than C50)
Front: C70 (non-security tint, comply to JPJ) / Sech60 (non-security tint, slightly darker than C70)
Either combination is warranted by the company in case of fail JPJ inspection.

Another option is C40, which I find this to reject heat better than C50S/C50. This tint is slightly darker, not a security tint, and was not warrant by the company. I was quoted same price for both combination (C50S and C40).

Raytech
Side/Rear: CS85 (Security tint)
Front: V97 (non-security tint) / UL70 (non-security tint, upgrade)

There is another version, CS75 (many people ask about). I find the heat rejection is not as good, and not worth the saving from CS85.

I also came across some reader say V97 is a bit dark for driving at night, and the spec sheet did show slightly darker VLT than JPJ requirement. (I didn't notice the spec till I get back, so did not ask about the warranty with JPJ). UL70 seem to meet JPJ requirement, I guess that's why it is there as an upgradable option.

3M
I didn't visit their tint shop, but I got a chance to visit 3M Innovation Center near Shah Alam to see some of their products, including their tint. 3M tint is proven to have very good IRR, and they seem really proud of it (block out smartag).

One of my friend has 3M tint install on his car, he say the tint work really well and better out his previous tint (some local brand). To prevent the smartag issue, he reserve the top part of his car (where the dark tint normally is) for different brand of tint that do not has issue with smartag.

Llumar
I didn't visit their shop either, but worth mention as another friend of mine has it for 3 years now, and the tint is still as good since day 1. Only thing is there are quite a lot of fake Llumar in the market (so I have read), which is good cause it means the brand is growing and proven, just that consumer need to be more careful at selecting tintshop.

V-Kool
None of my friend has this. Not a very popular tint nowadays?

For those that like to know how does a car feel like without tint and have problem to access to a car without tint (for comparison sake with your newly apply tint), try getting into a parked taxi at noon and take a ride with it.

For 3m autofilm, the best heat rejection will be crystalline series and nano series.

Sit in my colleague's Vios two days ago and find his tint works pretty well against hot sun spell. When asked , I was told his Vios tinted with a tint brand call Windshield / Winshield / Wingshield biggrin.gif ( don't know how it spells ) which I never heard before . And price seem pretty reasonable RM 1.6 k against those big brand. Any one use that before ? any sign of fading off 6 months or so ?
*
Top up a little bit more from Rm1.6k you can get the top best series from 3M already. No need to worry fading or loss performance.

Generally there are a few type of tint.

Dyed or Colored Films

The most recognizable type of film is dyed or colored film which people are familiar seeing on cars and outdoor vehicles. This kind of film is colored during the melting and stretching process and works to absorb the sun's heat as opposed to repelling or deflecting it. It also reduces the ability of people to see inside which can deter crime and vandalism. Dyed film should not be used as a backing for thermal films as it can result in trapped heat.

Sputtered (Metalized) Films
Metalized films are infused with various kind of metals such as copper, nickel and aluminum among others. This metal deflects heat and sends it back to the outside. The metals are inserted into the film during the creation process and they are infused on an atomic level. When this process is completed there is an even distribution of metals across the whole of the tinting film. This kind of film is most often most common.

Hybrid Films
Hybrid films are exactly what they sound like. They take the best properties of both dyed and metalized films and combine them into one film which does it all.

Ceramic Films
New to the window tinting arena is ceramic tint films. These films are created using nanotechnology and are at the cutting edge of window tint technology. Ceramic tints reduce the amount of interference sometimes found in colored or dyed films while literally strengthening the glass itself once it is installed.

People familiar with the industry have seen much advancement in the field, but none as substantial as ceramic window tint. This is a very durable product that stands above its peers in terms of longevity. It also has the highest heat rejection levels compared to other materials. It has double the heat rejection of hybrid and dyed products. Because it uses no metal of any kind, there is no interference with technology found in modern vehicles.
It is also of a higher quality and strength than other materials, and has the ability to hold shattered glass together better than its competition.

Many of the high-end metallic films cannot compete with ceramic window tint when it comes to longevity and durability. It is much more resilient when it comes to fading, bubbling, cracking and the ever so common discoloring after years of use.

Those who are interested with Ceramic Tint click picture below for more information.

The car accessories people installed a tint brand FAMOS and charge me RM2K for it.

He said this brand FAMOS is under HUPER OPTIK, which isn't launched yet.

no need to be a car tinter to know the good and branded tinted.
for me, only 3M, V-Kool, huper optic & Llumar are really a branded and using a imported tinted...
just make sure go to authorized dealer then you know..to avoid fake tinted...

Hi there, if it's not launched in Germany, then most likely it won't be available in Malaysia.

I just tinted my new Honda Jazz at 3M Ampang. Crystalline 70 for front and back, and Nano 40 for side windows. Total satisfaction for both product quality and workmanship. Price is very reasonable too. Recommended.

Will this make more sense?

:'( what can I do now? He kept saying it is a good tint and even ask me to a sample from
Raytech to compare with FAMOS.

And that FAMOS is good and better in quality.

And it's only 3mil for RM2k!!!! It is not reasonable right???

3mil is not even a security film right?

Then he said even a 20mil the glass will break.

Omfg that's not the point! The point is I'm paying RM2k for a 3mil unknown brand sad.gif((

It's not under HO。
But Smart Window, the dealer who carries the tint. (Another in-house brand tint? )

http://www.smartwindow.com.my/famos.html

The IRR% specs displayed on the website are good enough, the highest grade tint Famos X3, IRR% reaches 98% with 72%VLT. ( surpassing Vkool elite IRR% 94) notworthy.gif

But where's the TSER figure?

The link is not working so can't see anythings.

The thickness is not the main point as there is many cheap way to make it up to 8mil or more. Most important is the IRR and TSER reading. Even they provide you the reading, how real are the reading and how long it will last.

Since you already installed, why not you just try it out and let us know how you feel the sun. If you think it's acceptable level, just use it for a while and change it if necessary.

All the best.
