HP

ASUS

but one thing you might need to concern, thin and lightweight laptops generally traps more heat than conventional laptops, so a good cooling system is out of your requirement if you are planning to choose a laptop which weighs less than 2kg.

Thanks for the recommendation. However I suppose those ultrabook style laptop are quite good with cooling due to aluminum body?

I have some very bad experience with heating problem which lead to several shutdown and motherboard burnt. Hence I'm quite particular with cooling system.

there is no explained theory that a change in laptop chassis material can result in better cooling. if lets say the laptop is wholly built with aluminium, it can result in heat transfer from the heat trapped in the laptop to the chassis (since aluminium is a good heat conductor) which makes it warmer at the exhaust vents and heat trappable areas (which is located inside the laptop).

however, ultrabooks can do better in temperature control because they use a lower voltage CPU and do not have dedicated GC in them.

Let say both laptop have same cooling,
The one with aluminium body will have higher surface temperature, but lower component temperature.
While the one with plastic will have lower surface temperature, but higher component temperature.

Dear Sifus,

Appreciate your suggestions on this.

Brand: Any (long lasting and good warranty would be a big plus)
Budget: RM3000 exclude extended warranty (can add up to RM500, if it does make a difference)
Usage: Surfing, movies/dramas, might take up gaming again (eg: FIFA, FM, Diablo, Call of Duty, DotA, etc). Multi-tasking (watching movies/dramas, downloading, opening many tabs, all at the same time)
Screen size: Prefer 14", but can consider 13" as well.
Others: Windows, light-weight if possible.

* Am actually considering between Lenovo's 410p (seems pretty value for money?), Dell's Inspiron 14 7000 Series (love the aluminium design!) and Dell's Inspiron 14R. Which would be better?
* Worthwhile for me to drop by the upcoming PC Fair to get a better deal?

Thank you!

the best option for you to go for is Lenovo Y410P. if you go for Dell Inspiron 14 7000, you cant game because there is no dedicated GC option, while the 14R uses ULV CPU which might be a lil bottleneck.

IMO, if you wanna check out chicks, you should go to PC Fair. brows.gif
