can z510 upgrade to mSata?
*
no mSATA nor M.2 in Z510

or you may look at this :

Dell
Vostro 5470, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT740M@RM2249, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8, 3-cell

weighs only 1.62kg, processor maybe a little weaker but sufficient for med gaming.

Thank you for your suggestion. XPS 13 kinda expensive compare to other, even to Vaio @rm3699

Yoga 2 Pro seem like the best deal. Is it available now in Malaysia?

UX301 is probably the sexiest ultrabook ever. However the price might be more/close to RM5k.(Amazon price 1.8k USD)

I plan to get the laptop by the end of December. Hopefully yoga 2 and ux301 will be available by that time. More choice to choose.
*
Yoga 2 Pro is currently available. you might want to check with local resellers.

1. No acer
2. Light weight (below 2kg with battery), longer battery life, good cooling system
3. Minimum i5 haswell + GT 740, spec higher are welcome as well
4. Budget- Below 3k
*
Dell
Vostro 5470, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT740M@RM2249, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8, 3-cell

HP
Pavilion 14-N059TX, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT740M@RM2099[2.03kg], 4GB, 750GB, W8; colors: silver/black

ASUS
K451LB-WX071H, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT740M@RM2199, 4GB, 750GB, W8

but one thing you might need to concern, thin and lightweight laptops generally traps more heat than conventional laptops, so a good cooling system is out of your requirement if you are planning to choose a laptop which weighs less than 2kg.

Thanks for the recommendation. However I suppose those ultrabook style laptop are quite good with cooling due to aluminum body?
*
there is no explained theory that a change in laptop chassis material can result in better cooling. if lets say the laptop is wholly built with aluminium, it can result in heat transfer from the heat trapped in the laptop to the chassis (since aluminium is a good heat conductor) which makes it warmer at the exhaust vents and heat trappable areas (which is located inside the laptop).

however, ultrabooks can do better in temperature control because they use a lower voltage CPU and do not have dedicated GC in them.

Dear Sifus,

Appreciate your suggestions on this.

Brand: Any (long lasting and good warranty would be a big plus)
Budget: RM3000 exclude extended warranty (can add up to RM500, if it does make a difference)
Usage: Surfing, movies/dramas, might take up gaming again (eg: FIFA, FM, Diablo, Call of Duty, DotA, etc). Multi-tasking (watching movies/dramas, downloading, opening many tabs, all at the same time)
Screen size: Prefer 14", but can consider 13" as well.
Others: Windows, light-weight if possible.

* Am actually considering between Lenovo's 410p (seems pretty value for money?), Dell's Inspiron 14 7000 Series (love the aluminium design!) and Dell's Inspiron 14R. Which would be better?
* Worthwhile for me to drop by the upcoming PC Fair to get a better deal?

Thank you!
*
the best option for you to go for is Lenovo Y410P. if you go for Dell Inspiron 14 7000, you cant game because there is no dedicated GC option, while the 14R uses ULV CPU which might be a lil bottleneck.

IMO, if you wanna check out chicks, you should go to PC Fair. brows.gif

My colleague need new laptop

1. Preferred Brand : Lenovo, Asus, HP, Dell, in that order
2. Budget = 5k-6k
3. Usage = Work, AutoCAD (2D), Engineering Analysis Software
4. Preferred laptop/screen size = 13", 14", 15"
5. SSD, not so heavy, i7, Haswell, 8GB ram min.

cannot found any gem, please share info.... Lenovo T440 series ok?
*
HP
ZBook 15, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia Quadro K1100M + (1920x1080; anti glare)@RM6399, 4GB, 750GB(7200rpm), W8

this kind of laptop has more room for negotiation, maybe priced at RM6000 sharp after negotiate (or lesser, depend on sellers). for the RAM, you can upgrade it by adding an extra 4GB RAM kit for around RM100.

or perhaps, you might want to check with resellers or retailers for the Dell Precision M4800 (as the price isn't yet known).

Thanks for the input! Yup, heard about that from PC Fair.  tongue.gif

Been reading some reviews on Y410P and it seems to have problems with its touchpad, wireless drivers and cooling.  hmm.gif  Any comment on this?

If not Y410P, what other alternatives do I have? BTW, since I'm not in an urgent need to get a new laptop, would it be better for me to wait for few more months (drop in price, better specs)?
*
if you are okay to wait, you can wait till next year, when Maxwell and Broadwell are released.

it is much more or less. however, if the particular game is not optimized to run SLI, then it is a negative drawback for the GT755M SLI.

EDIT : and oh yes, the 2nd batch of Lenovo Y510P comes with GT755M SLI, which is coming soon.
