I have no idea what is considerred as well known brand.  But, from my experience , there are only 3 brands of laptop that worth buying: Toshiba, IBM Thinkpad, and Dell.  The other brands did not survive the abuses of frequent travels.

Oh, my friend's laptop in question belongs in the three brands you just quoted.

This is what I think/suggest:

1) 2 weeks of t-shirts and 2 pairs of jeans (probably 1 cargo pants)
2) 1 winter clothing (which you are going to hold it while board the plane)
3) 2 pairs of shoes and 1 pair of slippers
4) 1~2 weeks supply of toiletries

The remaining space fill it with food stuff. smile.gif

You may ahve some problem at immigration in the UK, coz they'd probably ask to see your unconditional offer regardless of whether you have a visa or not.
Since it's the British High Commission's fault, it's safer if they can issue a memo/letter saying that they lost the letter.
Also you can ask your university to resend you another copy.

i think he WILL have problems at the immigrations.

and yes, get brit hi-comm to issue some form of official letter about this. most universities are online nowadays, so if lost the letter, it's not really a big deal coz they can check in their records when u register. however, it's the immigrations that will make a big deal out of this.

i'm not exactly sure what'll happen, but it's better to avoid not having the offer letter altogether.

i still keep my receipt of payment and offer letters, there are three letters, one is unconditional letter and one is conditional letter and the others one is final acceptance letter, the british embassy only lost my final acceptance letter, so is it okay with the remaining letters? i advise everyone here, next times, visa things better take care by yourself, as u go thru other people, they just don't care as long as they get your visa for you.

Depends on what further conditions you had to fulfil to get the final acceptance. If it's something to do with financing your course or English Language requirement, then it will be an issue if you don't have the final letter.
But any reasons other than that, it should be ok if you only have your unconditional offer letter.

Any comments azarimy?

i think the unconditional offer letter should be ok. coz if logic applies, u cannot apply student visa at brit hi-council if u dont have unconditional offer letter, right? so the immigration would want to see that u really have an offer to verify the visa that u've got stamped in ur passport.

but i'm no authority in this. the safest way is to give ur university a call between 5pm - 12am msian time. they should be able to verify if the immigration is going to make a fuss about it. better yet, call/email british immigration directly.

Anybody did their visa recently? I need to renew mine.

How long did they take to process it and for you to get your visa?

Is the cost now really rm600+?

Don't bother about maggi mee since there are pretty decent Nishin Ramen here which cost around 27 pence for a pack. Bring a small rice cooker if you can, if you can't, look out for 2nd hand sales since most people will sell theirs.

Don't worry about leaving your family and etc, it's the same for everybody and it's a good chance for you to grow up laugh.gif
