Anybody here wants CM Sickleflow 120mm Red LEDs? Letting them go for cheap.

Btw does anyone here use fan controllers? Or at least recommend a good one?

Hi, can someone recommend me the below component?
I still stay in Core2 ancient era, i din follow up much since i7 until the new Haswell architecture now. Now i'm still read article from various hardware site.

Purpose of rig: Mainly for editing photo (photoshop, lightroom, which stretch my OC 3.3Ghz QX6850 to its knee), HD video playback (using SVP manager to increase frame rate from 24/30Hz video into 75Hz framerate in real time, make my current proc scream)

Budget: RM3-3.5k for few components below, OC oriented.

CPU: Target i7 3570k or i7 4770k (Which one is overclocking friendly??)
From what i know, Haswell integrate VR into proc, which makes the proc run very hot under load when OC. However Ivy-B employ lousier TIM between spreader and die which make it equally ugly too when under load. Anyway, Ivy-B is around 300++ cheaper than Haswell.

Mobo: I really have no idea for the mobo. After LGA 775, the socket types start to deviate untill i can't catch up. But for Ivy-B, i have to opt for 60 and 70 series chipset, and the choice is very less nowadays.
For Haswell, alot of choice on Z87 chipset, which also make me very headache. I need a midrange mobo that can OC my proc resonable. I dun need those extra features such as those onboard creative sound card, just a rock solid midrange mobo that can OC my proc reasonably. Budget target around 600-700. Better if cheaper.

RAM:
OK, from what i know last time we mess with FSB, so we can fine tune memory clock. The architecture now is set by ratio/multiplier, so up one step, we will need a memory with higher stock frequency. So memory is crucial in OC. Am i right? Any recommendation? I don need top performance RAM with lowest latency, just need a RAM that could keep up with my OC'ed proc. Minimum capacity is 8GB, as lightroom and mozilla open at the same time can consume me up to 6GB of RAM. I turn off virtual memory all the time.

Water cooling:
My rig now also using custom water cooling (7.5 years ago), however the CPU block leaking yesterday, thats why today i'm asking new system here. Anyway, i will still go to water cooling system, any recommendation? I have pump and radiator, if i just change CPU block is it possible? How about brand new water cooler system? Any recommendation? Budget 500-600.

GPU:
Using 6870 now, will remained this card in my new rig, seldom gaming.

HDD:
1TB HDD, 128GB SSD, will remained as well and no plan to buy additional one.

PSU:
Silverstone Strider Essential 500W, no plan to upgrade, hopefully can cope with new system with reasonable OC.

Please give your valuable input. Thanks in advance.

I would suggest something like this:
Intel Core i7-4770K - RM1050
Asrock Extreme4 Motherboard - RM619
Kingston HyperX 1866/CL9 8GB - Rm420

And you're reusing your GPU, HDD, SSD and PSU yes?

As for cooling, get rid of your old WC loop and just get the Swiftech H220 for RM489. Easier to maintain, efficient and powerful. If you want a proper custom set it'll be at least be RM800-900 now. Don't ever get the Armegeddon kits. Those are rebranded XSPC 750 kits with horrible pump and tubing.

But if you want to change your CPU block alone, you can get the EKWB Supremacy Nickel from APES for RM280+ or the Koolance 380I from niclasteoh at RM296. Was actually gonna get the 380I before I settled on the Aquacomputer Cuplex Kryos Delrin.

But since we are still on budget here you can get something like the XSPC RayStorm D5 AX240 WaterCooling Kit. smile.gif

If you're perfectly happy with playing at medium settings for BF3/BF4 then it should be fine. The HD5770 should be able to achieve reasonable FPS at that range.

But if you want 1080p Ultra then its a different story. You'll definitely have to get a better GPU. Do you have a budget it mind?

CPU - there is no i7 3570K, there is i5 3570K only laugh.gif performance wise, Haswell is a mere 5-10% faster than Ivy-B, so better take new model. cooling performance wise, Haswell is no better than Ivy-B, Intel still using the same method of TIM application inside the die

MOBO - im not sure much about the OC capability of the mobo ive picked below, but i daresay you can overclock decently with that mobo

RAM - i picked a decently speed RAM with high capacity as well, 16GB, so you shouldnt have any more problems of running out of memory nor having slow RAM speeds

WC - this is subjective as you might favour DIY WC kits instead. but Corsair H100i is a well known performer, so im suggesting that to you too

try this setup

Intel Core i7 4770K RM1089
Asrock Z87M Pro4 RM349
Corsair Vengence Pro PC1866 RM719
reuse HDD, SSD
reuse GPU
reuse PSU, but not sure if youll require more juice if you perform heavy OC
Corsair H100i AIO WC kit RM449
Corsair 350D RM345
Total: RM2951

PS: forgive me if i seem inclined to Corsair products, but they are good afterall tongue.gif

This is great actually. his budget is around 3k. but since he didn't play much game, I think keeping the budget to mid end GPU as 750 is ok for now and pump out on the monitor n CPU is priority. if he bought rigs+monitor around 2.7k, he'll waste the remaining on peripheral I think. haha..

btw, how different is Dell P2312H and U2312HM ? both full HD IPS right?

You can try selling it on LYN. There are still people buying old school stuff. smile.gif

As for price difference, its around RM300-400 depending on which 280X and 290 model you're looking at. But i do suggest topping up for that performance increase.

No point getting the 4670K or 4770K if you are not overclocking. If you really want good performance get the Core i7-4770 (non k version) and a good H87 board like the ASUS H87I - PLUS LGA 1150 if you wanna spend a little more.

Thanks bro.

I read alot of reviews yesterday, come out with the selection very similar to ur recommended.

1. i7 4770K
2. Asrock Extreme4 Motherboard OR
GIGABYTE Z87X-UD3H OR (Damn expensive)
ASUS Z87-PRO
3. RAM wise, might stick to your recommendation speed. Brand wise is OK for me, see which one cheaper.

As for WC, still in review research.
In my mind now got Swiftech H220, Thermaltake Water 3.0 Extreme and Corsair H100i.
Chew Yongxian May i know where can i get the Swiftech H220? I stay at JB, and will go to Genting from next Friday until Sunday, between i will go to KL Lowyat Plaza to hunt for my rig component, can you tell me which shop carry this WC kit? I download few price list, i only saw C-ZONE carry alot of coolers, but still i couldn't see Swiftech H220.

As for Thermaltake water 3.0 Extreme, price around 399, the performance is better than Swiftech H220 in max fan power, but at the expense of noise. However 3.0 Extreme fan and bump speed can controlled by software (Through internal USB connection), which is attractive too.

For Corsair H100i, the performance is quite similar to Thermaltake water 3 extreme, but the price is higher. Also come with control software.

Casing wise, can i get something decent under RM200? Corsair 350D is overkill IMO. tongue.gif
