Guys, I had the opprtunity to test out one of these thai PRS copy in The Guitar Store yesterday and I have to admit. It is really impressive. The choice of materials are really high quality, flame maple neck, ebony fretbard that's smooth as glass, light mahogany body, nicely done bird inlays, and really beautiful and thick maple flame top.
The pups (also thai) sounds great. The bridge has this warm and crunchy tone to it, almost like an LP yet lots of clarity. The neck tone is fat and warm but probably a little too muddy for my liking. Price is RM5k++ I think it is probably a little high for an Asian made guitar though. Yet it can't be denied that the build quality, materials, and hardware is there. I also had the opportunity to try out the Smarvo 212 100 watt with the PRS and I am really impressed with this amp. Really sounds like a Marshall. Was playing Panama and damn, so easy to get the brown sound. It is definitely more Marshall than my 5150. Also tried out some metal riff and true to a Marshall, the low end is not tight without a boost and the gain is no where near the 5150 without a boost. Despite being a copy of the DSL100, I say the tone is more classic and not as modern as the DSL. Only thing is, despite being a 100watt, it is not as loud as I thought it should. My 5150 at '1' is already much louder than this amp at '2' At less than 3k for the 212, these tube amps are much better buy that those AVT or MG and even the Mode Four. Build quality is great and solid. The full half stack will cost you less than RM5k. So, before anyone plunk 3k down for one of those MG or AVT Marshalls, they should seriously consider one of these. |

noisetrigger, a RM 5k copy ? i'm not sure they're aiming at the most populated market... they "must" be good if they expect to sell some, but at this price do you think many people would buy a copy whereas they can already buy the cheap model (SE model ?) of PRS ?
Thanks for the review, by the way, if you had some pictures I could put it up next to the other reviews. |

You can bet this is way better than the cheap model SE PRS. People who owned them claimed it to be up to par with top of the line PRS stuff, if not better. If only people don't look at the name on the headstock and behold the true value of it.Thanks for the review, by the way, if you had some pictures I could put it up next to the other reviews. |

Well, mind you, this is not some mass produced plain Korean PRS. This Thai PRS copy features materials, hardware, and build quality you will not find in the usual mass produced guitars. I do agree RM5k being a bit too much an Asian made axe, especially one from just above us.Thanks for the review, by the way, if you had some pictures I could put it up next to the other reviews. To be fair, I will not put this in the same league as the real thing but it is a step above a lot of mass produced guitars. As for pictures, I did not take any sadly but I will be there again next week so I will be sure to take some this time. This post has been edited by noisetrigger: Oct 19 2006, 08:17 AM |

well with rm1.8k to your budget, obviously got a few other choices.
but the AR300 is a good buy, again if its mostly in original shape. frets you most probably have to refret if he hasnt, thats a additional RM300+. |

I doubt you could find Jazz Chorus for RM1.2k.
But someone is selling an Ibanez SZ320 over at jamtank for RM1.2K nego. If you can get the price down to less than RM1k, I say it is a pretty good buy. Tested the SZ520 before, great guitars. Les Paul tone minus the weight and horrible higher frets access. |
