Please don't get "atmos" soundbars. The amount of money spent on it to get shitty sound quality in return is just downright... stupid. Sorry if it sounds offensive, but it is how it is. Don't jump down this rabbit hole, is all I will caution you from.

Upfiring speakers are bad enough as it is, but upfiring speakers from a soundbar is terrible. I mean, how big are those drivers in there? 2 inches?
And not to mention the complexity of having a totally flat, low (8ft) and reflective ceiling for upfiring speakers to work. How many people has that kind of room?

Get the YSP 2700 and have a good day if you aren't fussy about better sound quality.

YSP 2700 seems to be hovering around RM4k? Anyone got the latest price?

hello.. just wondering, would a 360 omni-directional speaker be a good replacement for the soundbar? Anyone has used it before?

I see some brand like Samsung combine their soundbar with their omni speakers for a better effect.

Hi guys,

I am looking for a soundbar namely to replace the TV speaker.
I am looking at the 3.1 system because I am a bit hard of hearing (worked in high noise area, improper use of earplug sweat.gif )

I went and try out the soundbars at BD, Sony and I do notice 3.1 gives better voice clarity compared to 2.1
I do find 5.1 is a bit of an overkill for a soundbar, considering my budget is only 1.5k.

So, the ones I've tested is

Samsung HW-K551
Sonos Playbar
Sony HT-CT-390

Saw some 3.1 system from Panasonic but did not audit yet.

If there are any better ones, please advice.

Thanks.

I'm using las750M or HS7 which is a discontinued product.
It's a 4.1 channel sound bar supporting Dolby Digital or DTS.
I'm not an audiophile, but I can say that the sound quality is very good when watching movies or programs in Dolby Digital.
The LG Bluetooth sound sync which can be used with LG TVs is not particularly great though, initially I bought this sound bar to connect to my LG TV using the Bluetooth feature thinking it is cools to connect without cords but it doesn't pass through Dolby Digital signals wirelessly and occasionally the connection drops, hence I just use an optical cable now. If your TV is a 2015 model and later, you can connect your decoders and boxes to your TV, and use your TV to switch the HDMI inputs. Just configure the TV to pass through the multichannel surround sound to your sound bar. If you have an old TV, this might not be possible and you will only get PCM 2.0 sound from the sound bar.
It has music flow which I do not use.
One isssue I had is that when watching Dolby Digital movies, sometimes the conversation gets drowned in all the sound effects. The sound bar has a Dynamic Range Control function but I feel at times it doesn't help that much. Otherwise, it's quite a decent sound bar.
I would recommend get a 4.1 channels or more sound bar. It's better than 2.1 setup.

Look under AV Sync adjustment, turn this function on.

Under this function, turn on "Bypass", your TV will send through multichannel surround sound received from your satellite decoder etc connected to the TV's HDMI port to your sound bar via optical.

Your TV need to have this AV Sync feature, if it doesn't, then the only way to receive Dolby Digital signal is to connect your satellite decoder to your soundbar HDMI in and from the sound bar HDMI ARC port to the TV ARC port, but let me warn you that this ARC method never work flawlessly, it's very cumbersome using this method as the moment you turn on your tv and sound bar, the sound bar will switch (annoyingly) automatically to ARC mode and you have to manually switch the input to HDMI IN on your sound bar remote each time. I don't know who invented this ARC connection, it just doesn't work elegantly.

The elegant and less headache way is to use the AV Sync function and it works like a charm.

Many people do not know this. They buy a good multichannel sound bar with DD decoder but only to end up listening to 2 channel PCM stereo which is such a waste.

Which one did you buy? I am having the same consideration like you. But I am also looking at some other options.
Sony SS-CS5 or CS3

Hi Sifus. I'm planning to get a tv sound bar with good quality sound w/ decent bass(don't have to be great) w/ budget rm600 to play around. Could you recommend me one?

I'm looking at Sony CT-80 is this a good choice?

Samsung HW-K350 400RM from Lazada. Cheapo, but reasonable sound quality for the price.

How about edifier b3? For bedroom, can this elevate the sound exp compare to built in tv speaker.

For watching series and movies mainly.

99% of soundbars will sound better than TV speakers. But there's only so much you can polish a turd, after all - no matter how much you polish it, it's STILL a turd.

That said, if you need convenience a soundbar makes a lot of sense.

Interesting discussion here.

I'm looking for a soundbar or system for the new living room for a 65" tv. I did some checking and came across vizio 3851-D0 really interesting and the price from 11street.my seems 1.5k + 255 shipping cost.

Any one come across this in Malaysia? Or is there any altanative system that cost around that price ?

Been testing the LG SJ8 soundbar that came free as part of the package with the LG 55C7 OLED. Decent but definitely never going to replace a proper surround sound setup. Features wise very well stacked with Chromecast Audio built in. The built in speakers on the C7 are no slouch either...more to come soon

Btw, the retail price of this is definitely high. It's a 4.1 system and lacks the ability to set delays to the sub...sub is a 170W ported sub...small so suited for small rooms so there is weight to the audio due to this. System also seems to be able to decode the lossless codecs..

Hi guys.. im using a Lg old model 49inch smart t.v.
Can recommend some decent soundbar for me.. my budget is only 1.5k below.

I tried a few 2.1 model but seems doing more worst than my current mini hi-fi

I want it mainly for movies, music not really.

I been eyeing with below 3, but not sure about the sound haven't got chance to try it:

Samsung Soundbar with wireless Sub HW-K551
Yamaha YAS-105 Bluetooth Dobly Audio Air Surround Xtreme 7.1CH Soundbar (without woofer, im not sure how would it sound when movie time)
LG SH7 360W 4.1ch Sound Bar with Wireless Subwoofer

With the limited budget, I think LG is fine.
If you get more budget please go for Yamaha soundbar with subwoofer.

For sure the bass will not be sufficient if there is no subwoofer for any soundbar.
