QUOTE(tailtwist @ Feb 20 2014, 05:22 PM) I'm not sure if you need International Driving license during your first 12 months The way i read it is that if you continue stay in sg for more than 12 months (and never exit singapore) then you cannot drive car without sg licence. Even if it is Msia car also cannot. But if you every now and then go back to malaysia, then should not be a problem since Msia is part of the ASEAN countries. Here's an extract http://www.ecitizen.gov.sg/Topics/Pages/Dr...ng-licence.aspx If you are staying in Singapore for a short period, i.e. you hold a short-term social visit pass, you do not need to convert to a Singapore licence to drive in Singapore. You must possess a valid foreign licence and an International Driving Permit (IDP) issued by an authorised body in your own country, example the Automobile Association (AA). If an IDP is not available, an official translation of your foreign licence in English is required. Drivers from ASEAN member countries only need to possess a valid driving licence issued by their licensing authority in order to drive in Singapore without an IDP. To continue driving in Singapore after 12 months of staying here (from the date of your last entry into Singapore), you must obtain a valid Singapore driving licence. - See more at: http://www.ecitizen.gov.sg/Topics/Pages/Dr...h.f5j7GRZY.dpuf Also, make sure you have proper insurance when driving the car. private car, better make sure you got the necessary insurance i.e: you are one of the named driver in the policy. Else later accident, you (or your fren) may have to pay for damages from your own pocket. BTW, I got friends working here with EP everyday driving with a malaysia licence. so not a problem. If you really plan to work long term in SG, better get your licence converted. |

QUOTE(doogiedog @ Feb 21 2014, 09:10 AM) BTW, I got friends working here with EP everyday driving with a malaysia licence. so not a problem. Just because your friends didn't get caught, doesn't make it "not a problem." The fact is that according to law once you've worked here for a year, you are not allowed to drive in SG using a Malaysian license. Yes, the chances of getting caught and fined are very low, but anyone reading this forum should know the law and make his/her own decision whether to risk getting caught. This link is clearer I think, directly from SPF. http://driving-in-singapore.spf.gov.sg/ser...nformation.html QUOTE Foreigners A foreigner above 18 years of age and holding a Work Pass/Dependent Pass/Student Pass may drive in Singapore with a valid class 3, 3A or 2B foreign licence, for a period of not more than 12 months. A Singapore driving licence is required after 12 months. Those on short term social visit may drive with their foreign licence for up to 12 months each time they enter into Singapore. For licence not written in English language, an International Driving Permit or an official translation in English language is required. So the "each time they leave and enter Singapore you get a new 12 months" applies to people on Social Pass, LTVP, etc, and not for WP/SPass/EP holders. Guys and Girls, I am in need of opinion from all of you.
Recently, I have been to Singapore for a few job interviews. Basically, one company (let's call it Company A) has already offered me a position, but the director told me to best give him a reply within two weeks (that means I have until next Monday 24/2). However, what Company A does is not very related to my major, but it still belongs to the engineering category (i'm an engineering fresh grad). I don't mind to learn from scratch Now, there's another company (Company B) which I've also applied for. I have done all 3 stages (1st interview, personality assessment, 2nd interview). Company B is very directly related to my field of studies. I am keen to work for this company as I will be able to apply what I've learned in my university. However, upon following up with the deputy director from Company B, I was told they will only be able to give me an answer next week, as the director is now outstation. What should I do? I don't wanna waste my only confirmed opportunity to work in Singapore, but at the same time, I don't feel like wasting a probable opportunity of working in Company B. The 2nd interview in Company B went well in my opinion. It lasted for 2 hours and I managed to ask alot of questions. However, when I asked the deputy director what are my chances of getting the job. He only replied, "Equal Chances" HELLPPP~~~ WHAT SHOULD I DO???? Thanks in advance |

QUOTE(rpg82 @ Feb 21 2014, 11:46 AM) Best if you check with your company on which bank they are using to credit your salary. Same bank meaning you will get the money normally on the same day the company process your salary with the bank. else, there might be 1 working day delay.Check with the bank on the minimum sum required to open a bank account. different account different requirement. I opened my first account with POSB with S$10. OCBC, IIRC, requires S$500 for a statement saving account. |

My friend is working with a contractor and was given a car to drive. Malaysia License driving a singapore registered company car.Your malaysia friend driving a SG car using malaysia license? It is not really the problem with driving licence that i see here rather, the issue of having a proper insurance while driving. Accident in Singapore can cost you lot of money if the insurance company reject your claim. Like this case where the driver claim he 'lightly' kissed a taxi but kena claim $9k from the passanger. http://www.mycarforum.com/topic/2693169-ca...ssager-instead/ Just for your info. |

As he has yet to be stopped by TP yet, I don't know if this applies. if exit singapore before 1 year n can have another consecutive 12 months, then almost all people no need to convert the license already. This is not true What I said was based on the previous post by tailtwist that mentioned "To continue driving in Singapore after 12 months of staying here (from the date of your last entry into Singapore), you must obtain a valid Singapore driving licence." In my opinion, it is better to get your licence converted if you are working in Singapore long term and planning to drive in Singapore. SG licence is valid for use in Malaysia also and there is no restriction like the 12 months thingy in SG. Best still, it is valid for life. No expiry date, no need pay money renew. Though I did hear my other friends say their SG licence got validity period. Anyone can confirm? |
