Anime Figures (アニメのフィギュア）
Figure collecting and the otaku come hand in hand. In fact, figure collecting has been called the otaku’s “drug of choice.” The hobby as a whole can be quite overwhelming to the new comer with so many different brands, models, and sometimes outrageous prices. It can be a lot to take and at times will scare off those interested.

Why Collect Anime Figures?
Collecting as a hobby in general is nothing new. People collect all sorts of things, be it the classics like stamps and baseball cards or the more odd choices out there. Anime figure collecting can really be seen as a supplement to a love of anime and manga, because the characters portrayed in the figures are almost always from anime and manga. This is really where the appeal comes for many. Figures are a way to take your favorite characters off of the 2D screen or page and put them right in front of you. Individual figures can be appealing because of their detail, general style or mixture of both.

Anyway,for my first post on v10,I should start big (accidentally posted this on v9 before realising v10 was out)...I know there are a lot of Griffon "fans" here,so thoughts on this 1/2.5 scale giant...? Just curious because they're also releasing Asuna in this so-called Super Figure line...

huge sized figures are usually better for those with many details. This figure's just wearing a swimsuit and that's it. So I'll say it's not worth it just like that 1/2 super duper Sonico last time. No people will bother to look at. If Koto made that Olivia in this scale I'll say shuddup and take ma monneh~.

If Olivia is in 1/2 scale. windspan and height is 4 x 4 ft leh.. damn big. Must be damn expensive for price and delivery .. and displaying her is a problem...

Yeah, another disadvantage for huge size figure is high chance they'll be damaged during delivery. so I'll say 1/6 for Olivia is the ideal scale. But like I said I wont mind if she's 1/2.

there's a sudden surge of spamming of Himawari figure, I guess boobs really do sell

their main market is Japan, maybe will sell well there

I can imagine a castoffable Olivia of the same design being a downright pain in the ass to actually get nude...I'd probably get heart attack trying to strip her off without snapping anything...Not to mention I hate it when I try to put the clothes back on,and they don't quite fit ...Maybe they can include a separate body where you just pop the head and limbs on,and voila...

And possibly the next hot sales item after Olivia?

The recent alisa figure doesn't look nice for pose but only for action. D:
The first one(from plum) is awesome for pose.

I liked PLUM's Amelia but never had enough spare budget to get one, gotta watch my preorders instead.

Either way i don't see other collector bought Plum Alisa. Gotta find d-arts Alisa when i go for japan trip.

One thing i realize the GE figures has the normal emotionless face. From the first 2 Alisa, its quite clear and Ciel seems to inherit the same stuff. (Not sure if it's just me paranoid about expression)

Bro what lenses do you use for photo?

that's for display cabinet with spotlights
the water is to cool down the interior, so the heat from the spotlight won't warp the figures

If use LED.. should not be a problem wit heat

i did

Juz 18-55mm AF-S VR kit lens on nikon d5200 , @f/4.5 29mm, iso 100, shutter 1/5sec with tripod, using manual focus & timer. Still wondering whether i overexposed her photos though; i might have overdid it a bit.
no need for fancy lenses when it comes to shooting figures unless u wanna go very near you will need a telephoto or macro lens.

I do plan to get a prime lens, but not on a hurry. A f/1.8 50mm lens is affordable (in the standards of photography accessories, approx rm 350-700+ depending whether it has VR), but if i had that kind of $$ i would go for f/1.4 50mm (approx RM 1300) for that pretty & smoother bokeh it produces.

Im not the kind who likes to abuse & spam bokeh, kinda a cheap tactic to me to produce great shots with minimal effort (which is why i do dioramas to be different from others), but for the sake of more variety to my photos i will still need a prime lens - also useful in portrait shots & wide landscapes (but i dont shoot landscapes much), not to mention they take in lots of light meaning i dont have to lower the shutter speed so much.

Curse them GKs and all who can do a proper paintjob... That said,Altlene and Alitines by Grizzly Panda got picked for the PVC treatment,so maybe there's hope still...? Speaking of which,those two are due out Jan/Feb and still no painted promos...Certainly not helping with the trust issues, quesQ...

hehe, i do a little bit of gk myself. Mainly due to the fact that most of them dont receive the pvc treatment ever, and that is motivation enough for me to start learning and building my own kits. why not try it? many sifus here

I really want to hate you right now,but I kinda envy you too... Its not like I didn't consider getting into GKs...I think there are more GKs I fancy than PVCs...But the really good ones cost as much/more than high-end PVCs...Not to mention I have a short attention span... It would be sad to see a kit I like half finished/botched up...So I guess I'll stick to pvc for now and just rage about awesome GKs...

better not, our tropical climate means that the humidity is high, and too much water isn't good for PVC either
most important is to avoid direct exposure to sunlight, and if can, avoid direct illumination from fluorescent lights either

i get recast kits from e2046 ori ones are way too rare and hence thats why they are so expensive. Using decals on the eyes really saves you from messing up the face, since thats the most important part of the gk. Apart from that, i really recommend you to start getting into gk. after about 3-4 kits youve pretty much break even with buying 4 pvc's alone

Yup,thats the one...Bought during the earlier stages of my poisoning...Didn't even realise there were more in the Shuraki series... Char is not too pricey I think,around 3-4k yen...Not sure about Nida...Damn, suddenly feel like hunting down a Char...

jvs5805: Yeah...happy to see some one same as me too. I accidently saw tis in taobao but i not sure tis is a Japanese figures or not, just feel it "look" alike Japanese figure. Haha....my second and third figure will arrive today i guess. Some time i feel confuse why some figure so famous but when i look at the figure itself, i feel nothing special but may be the finishing is nice or it is one of the famous charater in some movie? I check on the seller i brought with, mainly all the figure he seller is Japan AV star. Dunno it is suitable to post the photo here or not since the toy are way too " sexy"... Can any one advise me? Hahaha, it is definitely another big hole.
I've stepped in Diecast car, 1/6 figure and this PVC figure too...

so far not really burn a big hole in my wallet, luckily i only pick those i like most..and luckily i able to control myself to over spend on the figure.
so far i got 2 new diecast car, 2 new 1/6 figure in Hottoys, and 2 new PVC figure...

LOL~ already almost 3k fly away...

Wow!! U really have very good self discipline. At 1st i only have 1 unit detolf which have originally 3 layer to display my collection. After a while, i mod it bcum 12 layers detolf. Few months later, my collection bcum 3 X detolf. Early Jan 2013, i brought another 2 units Ikea Billy bookcase to fullfill my need. Last 2 weeks, my 3rd Billy also occupied half by my diecast collection....hahaha...I just have 1 PVC figure and going to have 3 after 1pm later....hehe

yeah I have that celia, but the work on it isnt impressive. The cast off system is a nightmare to put on and her face didnt turn out like the prototype. Also the paint from her hair is abrasive and rubbed off on her shoulder armor for me
