guys, wanna ask something. My tank is a well cycled tank (about 6 months already) but seems like my shrimps dont usually survive more than 1 month in the tank sad.gif

malayan seems fine, but yamato usually will go missing after few weeks.

There is no soil in the tank, full of anubias, and with normal fishes only (tetras, glass catfish, borneo suckers and 2 snails)

normally whats the main cause of shrimps dying?
*
Probably you can post a pic of your tank?

from what i see , your tank should around 40-45cm length, these fish you keep put alot of stress on small dwarf shrimps,
yamato are well known jumper, you may want to check behind your tank on floor for any dry prawn.
Adding coral stone , will increas ph, gh , kh and tds , if your water is more acid , it will help buffer it up, don't put too much, one to two small
old rm0.50cents coin size is enough.
Create more hiding space for shrimps since after molt they very vulnerable to attack.

wow thats sharp, yup it's a 45cm tank. I thought tetras can co-exist with shrimps? I do have some guppies though.

btw what is coral stone? where can get some?

Thanks for the advice btw

edit: oh ya another thing, my plants are growing black stuffs, I'm assuming they're algae?

I did get one unrelated casualty though.... it went all adventurous and climbed up the charcoal media bag I have on the filter outlet and became dried shrimp.

Fishes produce lots of waste. Beside, ur borneo sucker may disturb the under gravel and cause ammonia tat trap under it to release. Kill ur shrimp like a toxic bomb.

I tried keeping fish and shrimp together in 45cm.
I had a tough time maintaining the water parameter.
now I just keep shrimp. Peace of mind.

Yup. There are lots of toxic bubbles trap under the gravel.
Try not to disturb the gravel if you have shrimp.

don't look like malaya to me. Malaya give birth to larvae form , do you see any larvae before they change in shrimplets state ?
The shrimp in your picture look like snowball shrimp.

never seen any larvae in my thick planted tank...when I take out the drift wood to wash, only realised many tiny shrimplets washed out from there. Too small can't see any color.
