1. Annual Income: RM30K - RM36K (will increase to RM60k - 100k in April next year)

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: Yes

3. Card required for: Petrol (~RM250), Groceries (~RM400), Utilities (~RM150), Online shopping (sometimes)

4. Existing credit cards if any: Nil

5. Looking at CC from: Maybank 2 cards

6. Others: Using debit card now (PBD2D for cashback), but I would like to improve my credit ratings for a housing loan in the future. Plus, I might use ezypay for lasik procedure. It's just too expensive to pay in full amount. Was looking at MBB2card but noticed that gst went up to RM100. Is it still worth it, or is there a better card? Considered HLB wise too, but I do my groceries in bulk (RM200 x 2 times per month), so it'll be hard to swipe 10 times in a month. And my annual income will increase next year, so should I wait for it or just get the card now?

p/s: Btw, I'll be living in Kuantan next year, so how good will amex be outside klang valley? Main concern is shell petrol station. I know most shell accept amex in klang valley, but what about other areas? Thanks!
*
yes, you are looking at the correct cc which is mbb2cards and hlb wise.

you may choose hlb wise with grocery and petrol categories, if you don't mind to separate/divide your rm200 x 2 grocery buying to >rm50 x 7-8, plus pumping petrol at rm50 each time, you can easily achieve rm50 x 10 times.

if you choose mbb2cards, you will be limited to only weekends grocery buying and petrol pumping. i believe shell petrol station in kuantan has no problem to accept amex. and you can manage your utilities payment easily using amex via m2u duting the weekends.

when your annual income increase next year, you may consider pbb vs with 6% on grocery, dining, and online transaction.

choose hlb wise. since you have citibank cb plat to cover your petrol expenses, you may choose utilities and groceries for the categories of your hlb wise.

other cc options would be:
pbb vs and mbb2cards.

First card to get is the FREE FOR LIFE Maybankard 2 Cards. With your Petrol, Groceries, TNB and some other weekends expenses, you can easily reach the monthly cash back cap of RM50. That's RM600 FREE money; however you got to deduct RM100 (2 cards) for GST every year.

Click here to read my article Maybankard 2 Cards American Express and Visa/MasterCard GST Is Now RM100.

If you want a Premier card that grants you FREE UNLIMITED entries to airport lounges worldwide, including for supp cards, then Maybank Visa Signature is the card for you. This card also earns you 5% cash back for Petrol and Groceries and the max monthly cash back cap is RM88 (or RM1760 spending). However, the subsequent annual fee (RM550) is only waived if you spend RM50K annually. But I will show you that if you can max the cash back cap monthly, it may be still worth while to hold this card and pay the annual fee.

Click here to read my article Maybank Visa Signature - Another Must Have Cash Back Credit Card.

1. Annual Income: ~RM70k
2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: Yes
3. Card required for:
for bill payment, insurance, petrol, loan etc, didn't expect this card to swipe for living (eg shopping, groceries, dining), mostly just for bill payment only

just want to have a card to do automatic monthly payment, and for transaction that is not convenient with cash payment (rarely), I won't expect this card to swipe more than 10 times a month.

not sure this is valid concern, this will be my lifesaver credit card if I travelling oversea, so I need a card that can function with minimum effort at oversea, don't want when use at oversea suddenly issue come up. Average 1 year travel 2 times.

4. Existing credit cards if any: Nil

5. Looking at CC from: Nil

6. Others: Using debit card (Public Bank) currently, but debit card has it's limitation, so just want to get a credit card with minimum maintenance cost, for both credit rating and convenience.

*5% cash rebate on all your online purchases. For online spend of up to RM1,000 per month* but i wont spend that much in a month. seems useless in my case cry.gif how much is UOB's cross border?

the cimb cash rebate one, i can get 5% also, minus the 0.8% cross border, do you think it's worth it?

uob one 5% for petrol, 2% grocery and telco, others only 0.3%. not to mention the risk of getting 0% cb for petrol after 13th of the month. citibank choice is a point card not cb card.

it's really better if you choose hlb wise 10% to cover your main expenses like petrol, grocery, and telco on everyday usage.

Did you mean pay using installment scheme or you intend to pay minimum amount to bank? There's a difference in these two.
If installment, that's OK but if you pay minimum amount to the bank every month, the outstanding balance keeps snowballing and may affect your credit history.

It depends if there is an installment plan. If no, probably i'll pay minimum amount / as much as i can monthly till i clear the outstanding before i start swiping the card again.

Why is that so? Sorry for such a question because I am a totally newbie in this, planning to get my first CC. Any recommendation?

I am gonna use the CC for Unifi, Maxis, Shell, and some groceries in Giant/Tesco.

As for camera gears/electronic gadgets, probably once in a few months.
