That said, I will definitely keep my D800 and use it for macro, portraits and everything else~ but I'm definitely not bringing it on a vacation  laugh.gif  laugh.gif
For vacation, I want to be able to bring my best tools to capture my precious memories the best way I can. What do I take? The D800 of course. biggrin.gif

Really depends what the person wanna achieve and use the camera for.

Decline in DSLR, it's always happening, many people buy DSLR, excited and bring it everywhere they go the first time, and slowly, the DSLR went into the cupboard and they use their mobile phones.
Even digital camera are troublesome to carry around with you all the time.
Those never use DSLR will want to get one because they think only DSLR can get good image quality, but after getting, only they know, they're many others thing they need to know and learn, and more maintenance on the DSLR, etc.

To many, the camera they use is for taking food or something they see, you don't need a DSLR for that, and if they bought it, most likely they will not want to bring it around later. Another scenario is they take for shooting small family events, gatherings, small parties, etc. You also don't need a DSLR for that and it's troublesome to carry around, moreover, without knowing how to use it, they still get blur shots for movement/action when using A mode, harder to share, etc. Someone using smartphone may already taken the shot and shared it, or send to others.

I notice many media/journalist (auto blogs/magazines) already using smaller mirrorless camera, it's much much more convenient for them to carry around, with much smaller bags, and more convenient for them to move around and squeeze through the crowd to get that shot. You may carry a DSLR, but if you can get the shot or angle you wanted, it become pretty pointless.
I agree. For those who only shoot to record shots for FB and blogs, camera from the handphone is more than suffice. Heck, my 13MP Note 3 is fantastic for this. 4k video recording to boot. brows.gif

So it's no surprise that media / journalist can rely on mirrorless cameras or even handphone cameras to cut down cost. Heck, back then magazines still survive with 8MP pics and even 4MP for 2 page layout.

My gripe with mirrorless is not because of their quality. They satisfy certain market of people who want to go light but yet give reasonable performance. What I dislike is their pricing.

Wow, the thread seems to be active these days. Damn, I way too long didn't lepak inside here liao.

With now D610 announced, that could be under my consideration for FF body than the D800. Who else potentially getting it as well? smile.gif
Yeah, for those who think the D800 is too much MP or too much money, the D610 is a good compromise.

True, I dislike their pricing too, hehe

But the Nikon1 V1, drops half price (package) with the launch of Nikon1 V2. That's a good price tongue.gif

Yes, but can we still find the V1? Sneaky Nikon buggers quickly took them off the shelf once the V2 came out or still sold them at old retail pricing. rolleyes.gif At least in US, you could still find them around at DISCOUNTED prices for a month or two. Now no more I think.

During that time promotion, I still saw some shops selling it (e.g. Harvey Norman). I guess while stock last, hehe

Other shops not sure still got or not.... but after checking out V2 looks and features, V1 seems less interesting already tongue.gif

Funny how I used to think like that as well haha laugh.gif
In the end I think, to me those special moments are more important than capturing them haha~
Its not like the current mirrorless cameras are that bad la haha, but a compact camera is definitely a NO NO for me haha tongue.gif

Say so much in the end I still only have a DSLR to bring around haha laugh.gif laugh.gif

The Sony RX100 or its successor seemed pretty gooding, even so when paired to an underwater casing for underwater shots  drool.gif
Yes, I was looking at it for light underwater usage like snorkeling etc. But alas there's too many hobbies for not enough time and money. cry.gif

QUOTE(celciuz @ Oct 9 2013, 07:10 PM)
That's the issue when I'm trying to supress the light going through the lens sad.gif

70200+CPL is ok most of the time, 70200+TC2 acceptable, 70200+TC2+CPL --> this one pretty dodgy... better on the D800, but on D700 not as reliable hunts more.
Makes sense. D800 AF is more superior than D700 especially with the AF down to -2EV. Anyway, general performance of AF is affected by amount of light. The more light there is, the more efficient the AF can work.

Now that you mentioned, don't know how the AF-S 80-400 will perform when you add CPL / ND filter... hmm.gif

The colors and details are simply amazing~
Retro design quite nice too  wub.gif
Colours for Fuji sensors have always been amazing back in the S3 and S5 days (the one based on D100 and D200 body respectively).

Actually, you can always install a curve inside Picture Style that emulates the Fuji.

Imho, learning all the settings at once will be a bit too much haha
Just stick to Program (P) mode 1st and go out and shoot, learn to compose your photos; everything else will come along later as long as you keep on shooting mate thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

Yeah, with what I have now, I would prefer only bringing the body and 24-70mm only next time.
Will no longer bring the 50mm, tripod and flash anymore. I'd rather improvise than having brokeback with the gears laugh.gif

For landscape shots can just get something to rest the DSLR on. With a tripod mount attach to the body + lens with lens cap, the entire camera can "stand" perfectly linear and stable XD

For night shots can use handphone torchlight to bounce light from walls/ people with white shirt LOL laugh.gif laugh.gif Or if no choice, use built-in flash XD

If only I have a mirrorless XD
Still, long time to go before my next trip~

Yes, shoot with P first since you are still very new nod.gif

And try shooting out in the sun (7-9am or 5-7pm are very good times for good photos), your photos will be better, with less tendency to become blurred.
With P mode, you will notice your photos will mostly be blurred under dimmed conditions (indoors/night shooting etc.), its normal.

From there you will notice that the DSLR is pretty "stupid" in P mode, enticing you to jump to S (shutter speed) or A (aperture) modes or even manual if you are a very fast learner haha XD but those are one or a few level up haha, don't worry about that 1st icon_rolleyes.gif

And yes, shoot in JPEG 1st, until you have some clue on what is post-processing haha!

Share your photos, and keep photos that you think are very good at that particular point in time. One day you will look back at them and feel nostalgic (and will probably laugh at yourself), its a very fun process, so remember to enjoy it thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

Curious, which cheap mirrorless you bought? hmm.gif
Recent cheap ones like the NEX3n can really perform very well in terms of IQ and noise performance; sometimes even better than my previous D90 I think. Time flies!

Wah, Dubai is very beautifullei!!
Looking forward to your photos brows.gif brows.gif
