Preferred brand :None
Budget : RM2000 (don't mind topping up a little)
Usage: programming, watch HD 720p video, gaming (like TF2 and minecraft)
Requirement :Don't mind as long it's strong enough to support. Also maybe good customer service.
*
QUOTE(neuro4869 @ Nov 13 2013, 01:33 AM)
1. Any brand, doesn't matter
2. Budget around RM2000
3. Usage is for mainly browsing(can't lag with multiple tabs), can play FullHD videos without lag after few minutes, and must be capable of medium graphic intensity gaming
4. Size around 13-14 inches
*
Dell
Inspiron 14R, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT740M@RM1849 [2.32kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), Linux, 6 cell; W8@RM2049

HP
Pavilion 14-N059TX, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT740M@RM2099[2.03kg], 4GB, 750GB, W8; colors: silver/black

Satelite L40-AS125XG/B/W, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT740M@RM2299, 2GB, 750GB, W8; colors: Gold/blue/white

neuro4869 your budget doesnt allow you to buy a laptop with full HD screen. the cheapest laptop with full HD screen (based on availability) is this :

MSI
GP60-2OD, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GT740M + (1920x1080; anti-glare)@RM2999, 4GB, 750GB, W8, steel series KB

You don't get what I meant, what I meant is not full HD screen but have no trouble playing full HD video for more than 30 minutes without starting to heat up and lag and become slow/less responsive.
*
my Elitebook 6930p with core 2 duo (which is older than the laptops i suggested) can run full HD well. doh.gif

Hi,

1. Preferred Brand: any brand with good and fast after sales and warranty extension infomation
2. Budget - 2k - 2.5k
3. Usage - run computer simulation(fluid dynamics) & autocad
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - 14inch

Should i go for better cpu (i7) or better graphic card? btw, not a gamer. can i get a laptop not come with any os? i have the genuine license. i noticed some dell laptop preinstalled ubuntu? the buyer can replace with other os?

Thank you:)
*
for those applications, it is better to go for both because one does not know how intensive is your simulation and autocad usage (because there is single or multi-threaded). maybe one day you will do a larger ones, so a good processor and good GPU will keep you in peace of mind.

for Dell laptops that pre-installed with ubuntu, you can replace the OS as how you like, as operating system is not covered in the warranty policy.

Lenovo
Y400, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT750M@RM2499, 4GB, 500GB, FreeDOS, 120wPSU, swappable ODD, 2 years warranty

Dell
Inspiron 14R, i7-4500U + Nvidia GT750M (GDDR5) @RM2499[2.32kg], 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm), Ubuntu 12.04 , 6 cell; W8SL@RM2699

prices are RRP and negotiable.

Hey guys, wanna ask Lenovo 510p vs msi equivalent specs. Which one is better ?
*
the MSI laptop you meant, is GE60. i would say the Y510P is better because it has room for expandability and more cheaper. the MSI GE60 is much more on build quality.

just the negative drawback of the Y510P is the unstable touchpad and glossy screen and bezel.

Hi, i try to get this in few stores and some online traders, all of them said this models are obsolete already. Any ideas for me to get this somewhere?

Is there a lot differences between gt720m, 730m, 740m and 750m?

Thank you very much:)
*
perhaps you need to check with your nearest or largest local retailer, because EOL-ed products still have the minority chance to find it.

and yes, there is a lot of differences between GT720M to GT750M.

1. Preferred Brand: no preference, as long as it's reasonably reliable

2. Budget: RM 1,500 to RM 2,000

3. Usage: for a student studying law. Usage will mostly be on Microsoft Word, facebook, some streaming, etc. Stuff that a university students does I guess, without any gaming.

4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 13-15 inches or thereabouts.

ASUS

G500S, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT720M@RM1699, 4GB, 500GB, FreeDOS

prices are RRP and negotiable. you can omit options with dedicated graphics, for you to save money and boost your RAM to 8GB for around RM200 and/or extend the warranty to 3 years

Hi sifus, do you know where i can see the Inspiron 7000 high spec model demo unit sweat.gif ? I went to digital mall but only saw one shop with the Inspiron 7000 but is the low spec i5 version and the screen quality is really bad sweat.gif . Saw the Aver V7 and totally impress with the screen IPS nod.gif . Want to ask is Highpoint service good because got free extended warranty upto 3 years and i live in Subang so it is easy to send for service if touch wood got some problem nod.gif . Dell really good after service if within warranty period. If the screen production quality of the Inspiron 7000 series i7 the same as the i5 then would maybe go for the Aver V7. Below is the higher spec model i am looking for

Inspiron 15 7000, i7-4500U + Nvidia GT750M (GDDR5) + (1920x1080; Touch)@RM3599[2.6kg], 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm), W8SL, backlit keyboard, 58Whr

Thank you in advance notworthy.gif

go to lowyat G floor. the Dell retailer at there has one full spec demo unit for you to impress yourself. note that the retailer next to Sony only has this model, the one next to Coffee Bean doesnt have.

- Prefer Nvidia GPU
- Self install OS

im wondering why do you need discrete graphics when you played facebook games? a core i3 is simply enough to handle your facebook games very well with no lags. to note also, flash games runs better with CPU, so processor is the power horse here. anyway :

Dell
Inspiron 14-3437, i3-4010U + Intel HD4400@RM1399[1.99kg], Ubuntu, 4GB, 750GB(5400rpm), 4-cell; W8SL@RM1549

unsure.gif I have a question:

Dell Inspiron 14 7000s [RM2699]
**4th gen. i5-4200U (3M Cache, 2.6 GHz)
**HD resolution (1366 x 768)
**6GB DDR3L 1600MHz
**500GB, 5400RPM
**HD Graphics 4400

I wonder if there are other brands which have laptop with almost the same specs but cheaper.
Recommendations for i5 laptops (better than the Dell Inspiron) for RM3k and below --is much appreciated.

And I play 2D MMOrpgs: Wonderland Online, Nostale, Angels online, Luminary..etc.
*
Lenovo
S410p, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT720M@RM2099[2.1kg], 4GB, 1TB, W8, 2 yrs

Dell
Vostro 5470, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT740M@RM2249, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8, 3-cell

ASUS
K451LB-WX071H, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT740M@RM2199, 4GB, 750GB, W8

FYI, the Dell you listed is a macbook replica, so the build quality is the best among the other 3 listed by me. however, the decision is in your hands. i would recommend you to experience the laptops at your nearest local retailer before you make any purchasing movements. wink.gif
