Gigabyte made lappy since at 2009 already la laugh.gif

i know it is true that Gigabyte started laptop business in 2009 but my taste is that one company that does not start a laptop business more than 5 years is still considered new. tongue.gif

not necessary have to follow my taste though. laugh.gif

40-50 fps.
*
was about to say that. laugh.gif anyway, min fps for the GT750M DDR3 on battefield 4 is 37.

i think this is because battlefield 4 is a well optimized game. a Y510P SLI barely hits lower than 40FPS under native resolution (full HD) with high settings.

"superb" quality keyboard

Asus
X451CA-VX007H/012H, Pentium 2117U + Intel HD@RM1449, 4GB, 500GB, W8, 1 year warranty

Lenovo
G400s, Pentium 2020 + Intel HD@RM1349, 4GB, 500GB, W8
*
IMO, Dell is out of the list here, because less bumpy and tactile feel, due to lower key sinks.

Wah good performance but will the ULV processor slow the game?
*
not sure about it since no one has tested it.
the one i referred is on a N550JV, maybe will slower 15% on the Acer V5.

im talking about the i7 ULV too. sweat.gif
the only best spec that Acer V5 had is i7 ULV and GT750M DDR3.

if you want the most customizable ones, Illegear is the best among all.

however, i also rated Illegear as the best option for you to have. smile.gif
if lets say you prefer larger brands, you can take a look at this :

Lenovo
Y510p, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GT750M(GDDR5) + (1920x1080)@RM3399[2.7kg], 8GB, 1TB, W8, red backlit, swappable ODD, 120w psu, 2 yrs

*
the best i7 ULV you can get at the moment is i7-4500U.
there is no such processor, i7-4702U in Haswell lineup. so it is confirmed either i7-4702HQ/MQ

to add, i7-4702MQ/HQ is an undervolted version of i7-4700MQ/HQ

Hi

My wife wanted a new laptop for his work. Need some recommendations from u guys

1. no acer, asus, msi and other unknown brands
2. RM2500
3. surfing, typing, online conferencing (gotomeeting)
4. Preferred laptop/screen size
- 13"
- long battery life
- lightweight
- touchscreen if possible
thank you in advance  notworthy.gif
*
i dont really suggest your wife to get a touchscreen laptop. constant poking the screen across the desk is really tiring and may loosen the hinge, unless you are getting a convertible/hybrid laptop. frankly, touchscreen is just a marketing gimmick. anyway, i will suggest along 14 inch laptops as well, as there are more lightweight options on 14" with that pricing.

Dell
Vostro 3360, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000@RM2249[1.67kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HB; colors: red/silver/bronze
Vostro 5470, i3-4010U + Intel HD4400@RM1899, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8, 3-cell

Lenovo
S410p, i5-4200U + Intel HD4400M@RM1699[1.8kg], 4GB, 500GB, FreeDOS
ThinkPad Edge E431, i5-3230M + Intel HD4000@RM2589[2.15kg], 4GB, 1TB, W7P/W8P, anti-glare

prices are RRP and negotiable.

thanks for the reply. yeah I have been thinking of buying hybrid laptop. been searching and found Lenovo Yoga 11s will suit my wife's need. what do you think? do u have any other models in mind?

Here's the yoga 11 specs that I'm interested in

Windows 8
Intel® Core™ i3-3229Y (1.4GHz, 3MB L3 cache)
11.6" HD LED Multi-Touch
128GB SSD
Integrated Graphics
4GB (1x4096) DDR3 SDRAM

btw do u think 4th gen intel makes big difference in performance and battery life compare to 3rd gen?
*
it really does makes a large difference in battery life and graphics performance.
but for 3rd Gen ULV processors, they are quite battery saving too but not as much as haswell.

let me give some ratings based on the screen (IMHO) :

1st - Acer V7 - IPS technology
2nd - Dell Inspiron 15 7000 - Dell's Truelife technology, good viewing angle and colour quality
3rd - Lenovo Y510P - Average colour quality
4th - MSI GE60 - Below a little average colour quality, colours a little inaccurate and washed out.

i saw this model in Dell's Store at LYP. so far, very nice speakers and screen colours, very solid hinge and beautiful macbook replica. i can confirm it is a full HD screen, as the model i tested comes with full HD. just make sure the price tag is RM3599 as this the only best spec that Dell Malaysia can offer.

if you find the red keyboard on the Y510P is irritating, you can turn it off. backlit keyboards are designed to be able to turn on and off.

as for MSI, i dont really recommend you to get it due to its screen's colour quality which is below average.

FYI, the difference between i7-4700MQ and i7-4500U is the MQ is a quad core high performance processor and the U is an ultra-low voltage dual processor. the U is weaker than the MQ a lot but saves battery life more than the MQ.

all the laptops you listed do come with Optimus but Optimus dont really help much IMO. they only save about 20% of the tested battery life on usages.

Meaning that Z510 i7 variant will mostly be i7-4702HQ/MQ... with HQ and MQ prefix it means at it is quad core right? Just maybe lower Ghz since it is undervolted. Am I right? Currently eyeing on Asus S551LB and Lenovo Z510. Design wise quiet similar. But Z510's variant of i7 is cheaper than S551LB's.
*
yes, with the prefix it could be either one of the quad core varieties.

but FYI, the S551LB comes with i7-4500U, extra 24GB mSATA and a touch screen. this laptop is more weaker than the Z510.

it is great for bang of buck. just the negative drawbacks are the average screen colour quality and unstable touchpad.
IINM, Y400 is nearly EOL.

i dont really like to suggest ASUS as not so many configurations, some more of their terrible customer service in KL. anyway, i will suggest along some :

ASUS
S550CB-CJ102H i5-3337U + Nvidia GT740M + 24GB mSATA + 500GB + (1366x768; touch)@RM2499[1.83kg], 4GB, W8

what about a smaller one?

Illegear
RE-13 Pro, i5-4200M + Nvidia GTX765M + (1920x1080 IPS)@RM3999[2kg][Onkyo, SoundBlaster Cinema], 4GB, 500GB(7200rpm), Backlit Keyboard, FreeDOS, [CPU Options: i5-4200M - i7-4900MQ]

not so many gaming laptops are as thin as GS70. the other alternative to GS70 is the Gigabyte P35K but this model is rare in Malaysia, very hard to get it unless buy through foreign countries like XoticPC, GenTech PC.
