Hi ! please help me on choosing best laptop for me sad.gif

1. Preferred any brands except Dell, Acer, Samsung.

2. Budget up tp RM 2000, Below RM 3000

3. NO GAMING. My usages : Perform tasks like; assignment that needed for me to open a lot of tabs from Microsoft word, googles, etc. I HATE LAGGING. Usually my browser stucked everytime I open 7-10 tabs in 1 time but I needed to do it so for gain information.

4. nice design/look, better performance, no lagging/stuck, battery life the longer the better.. screen size below 15

Thats it! smile.gif TQ in advance!

Lenovo
S410p, i7-4500U + Nvidia GT720M@RM2199[2.1kg], 4GB, 1TB, DOS; W8.1@RM2399, 2 yrs

with the remaining budget, use it to slap in a SSD (256GB for RM600-RM700) for the best responsiveness. you wont feel any lag after you install a SSD.

you cant get a good workstation laptop with that budget then but still, some power horse may still suit you :

ASUS

I looked at Acer's UK official website (Acer.com.my did not seem to state the GPU for some reason  shakehead.gif ) and the specs stated GPU for V5 573PG is GT720m.
Would that be sufficient for medium-high settings?
*
Acer's official website has been a hassle for spec details recently, you need to find resellers to get the spec.

FYI, GT720M is enough for low-med settings.

anyone know where can find the spec forĀ  all brand of notebook/model?
cos i cant find the full spec for some model on official website.....which still list old model....
*
try garage sales. resellers normally do have full spec/datasheet for the products that they are selling.

QUOTE(sheng291 @ Nov 21 2013, 10:36 AM)
1. Preferred Brand- as long as not Acer and HP
2. Budget-2.5k+-
3. Usage-engineering drawing, running heavy program
4. Preferred laptop/screen size-14 or 15.6

Btw, can anyone care to let me know if U processor and M processor do have big diff?

I have tragetted 2 laptop, 1 with i73632M but GT640 2G, while another is i5-4200M with GT740 2Gb, with both same price, which one is more worth? Thanks
*
U processor is an ULV processor, which uses low voltage to save battery life, while M/QM is a consumer line processor with higher performance but drains battery. if you are using the laptop for engineering work, i would suggest you to take the one with Core i7-3632QM, which is a quad core. somehow, one of the laptop you mentioned may be the old Lenovo Z480, which is EOL-ed.

Just MSI? How are their support? Thanks for your suggestion. I was hoping that I'd have at least a few other suggestions to look into though...

1. Preferred Brand: Any with good support and perhaps a 2-3 year warranty.
2. Budget: 2-3k. I'd like to upgrade to SSD within this budget if possible. I can go above this if I have to, but not by too much.
3. Usage: Work and gaming. I play Guild Wars 2 regularly, so I'd like GW2 to run smoothly on medium settings and I'd prefer something that doesn't overheat too quickly/has decent cooling, if possible. I've thrown out all my previous weird requests from two months back. >_>
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 14-15
*
MSI's support so far is ok. never saw any customers' flaws with MSI at the moment. with this budget, you should aware of the SSD capacity and pricing. 128GB is around RM300 and 256GB is around RM600. anyway, some suggestions for you :

Lenovo

Dell

i was looking for this 2

Dell Ins i5-4200U + 4g ram + AMD Radeon™ HD 8670M RM 1999

and this

Dell Ins i7-4500U + 8g ram + 8850M RM 2499

so, which one for the value of their price?

mainly i use it for my office work which include photoshop sometimes, and got task like video making slidershow (i use cyberlink powerdirector 11)

i wonder sifus opinion, thx...
** it will last for few years, my xps spoil coz the graphic chip broke, this 2 can replace the GC i was told my Dell officer
*
option 1 is more value for money. you dont need a very good graphics card for photoshop. option 2 is a bit more overkill but better performance.

It was very hard to survive with such crappy specs.

The one you recommend seems like a good choice.
But what brand is it? And does it have good after sales?
*
i am more harder to survive, using an old integrated graphics and could never play modern games. sad.gif

FYI, there are certain games need to utilize quad cores, so the laptop mentioned by camelliatale is a dual core i5. you might not get the performance you expected but still its great for value.

Hi Sifu,

i looking a personal laptop, hope can recommend, not too much on gaming but also must able to support la, incase i want to play .

Most usage on internet / movie / surf net and others xxx

1)Budget 2K - 3K
2)Not too heavy
3)Battery last long
4)Display must nice
5)support HDMI
6)SSD (today i saw most of laptop almost comewith SSD + SATA), may i know usually ppl will utilize SSD on what thing ? ) windows ?
7)bluray (Optional) i saw got bluray player is damn expensive ..
*
FYI, those are mSATA SSDs. some manufacturers use the mSATA SSD for caching purposes, which acts like a secondary RAM in a particular computer and for larger capacity of mSATA SSD (which will sold separately), it can be used as a primary boot option for a laptop (need to do some settings in the BIOS though). the difference between mSATA SSD and a normal SSD is the mSATA is smaller in size (almost the size of 2 network cards in laptops), while the normal ones are standard laptop sized. most people utilize mSATA SSD and SSD as a primary boot setup, for faster windows booting.

almost all laptops nowadays do come with HDMI, so you dont need to worry about dont have a HDMI after you purchase. for blu-ray drives, it is not recommended to get though as nowadays people less use the optical drive; they prefer to use ripped files. your suggestions :

ASUS
K451LB-WX071H, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT740M@RM2199, 4GB, 750GB, W8
S550CB-CJ102H i5-3337U + Nvidia GT740M + 24GB mSATA + 500GB + (1366x768; touch)@RM2499[1.83kg], 4GB, W8

HP
Pavilion 14-N059TX, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT740M@RM2099[2.03kg], 4GB, 750GB, W8; colors: silver/black

Lenovo
Z510, i5-4200M + Nvidia GT740M@RM2399[2.2kg], 4GB, 1TB, backlit, W8; 2 yrs, color: white

with the remaining budget, get warranty extension to 3 years to save your hassle during the 3 years time being when something bad happened and then install a SSD (if budget allows).

is there a big difference in term of graphic performance between gt720 and gt740? cz i also find laptop such as lenovo flex 14 suit with my preferences. i afraid cannot play game such as need for speed rival.

my advice is, use the money you used to buy a touchscreen laptop and upgrade the warranty to 3 years is much more a better movement. the screen hinge will loosen due to constant poking of the screen. by the way, i will suggest along one as well :

1. 1080p and good screen.
2. GT740m or better (able to play 720p games).
3. Has backlit keyboard.
4. Weight which suitable for campus life.

Unfortunately my budget is limited to RM3k +/-
Please list out latest model and upcoming model for 2014 (if any).

Your help is much appreciated.
*
the option closest to meet your criteria :

Acer
V7-582PG-74508G52k, i7-4500U + Nvidia GT750M + 24GB mSATA + 500GB HDD + (1920x1080 IPS; touch)@RM3399[2.2kg], 8GB, W8

Lenovo
Y510p, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GT755M(GDDR5) + (1920x1080)@RM3399[2.7kg], 8GB, 1TB, W8.1, red backlit, swappable ODD, 120w psu, 2 yrs

MSI
GE60-2OC, i5-4200M + Nvidia GT750M(GDDR5) + (1920x1080; anti-glare)@RM3099,8GB, 750GB(7200rpm), W8, steel series KB

best screen quality is owned by Acer, due to its IPS screen. Lenovo is on subpar level but MSI is worse (there is one model within your budget range). however, it is still better for you to experience the laptops by visiting local retailers and negotiate with the seller for more discount for purchasing move.

Looking for laptop of following specification:

i) Any brand except Acer, HP, Fujitsu & Sony.
ii) Around Rm3000. Slightly higher is ok.
iii) Working purpose (quite heavy multitasker). Light gaming like CS only.
iv) Prefer Ultrabook of light weight as need to carry overseas always.

Any suggestion is welcomed. Thanks in advance.
