tried the a7 and a7r last night at klcc. shutter sound not as loud as i thought, but the shutter button has too little resistance, not sure due to demo unit being abused. overall an impressive little machine that's going to compete very well with other FF DSLR.

Please help me to ask your friend about how to keep the battery alive during low temperature as i heard that the low temperature of around 0 degree kill the battery very fast...

LiPo chargers do not operate/charge on time base (like NiCa) but on close loop (voltage feedback/ detection). Its charge current and duration of charge is based on the preset curve that is recommended for LiPo battery (not a straight line).. Deviation from this will kill the battery fast or FIRE! You need a micro chip to do the controls.

That is how it initially got its bad name because some smart guy brows.gif thought it was not necessary and did it his own way! blush.gif

Mfg today knows better.. learn from the bitter lesson.

Hav fun!

I bought my battery charger thru this guy.

https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=2606150&hl=

I was at Kyoto n Osaka recently. It took around 4 hours to fully charge my nex-5t battery. I haven't count how fast it can charge in Malaysia yet.

Just to share.

Exclude the powerbank part, 2 battery can barely last for 1 day. if u plan to shoot at the sky at night, then 2 battery in 1 night. Powerbank will exhausted very very fast even u are not using in very cold condition, so u better make sure it stay warm. 1 good thing is, sony nex stand well in harsh condition !

i had been to several < 0 celcius vacation and 1 -30c trip, tips for u will be...

1. put ur spare battery (and camera when not using) in ur winter clothes and near ur body.

2. after battery exhausted, repeat step 1 or put the battery inside ur glove, it will magically recharge on ur body and will last u for a while.

3. if u care for ur lens, dont just walk from outdoor to heated indoor. Fog or moist or whatever will inside ur lens. but i dont care and my camera still working now.

i'm not sure as well, this is what my housemate told me which he found out on the 1st night during charging the battery. I'm unable to test in the field as i'm nowhere near the date to Japan  sad.gif
Based on the paper spec, it should works across 100-240. still the charger is working fine in m'sia. hence i suspect is the 3rd party charger is not working properly with lower supply (semi-faulty) hmm.gif
Atm, i can't decide what is wrong until i'm able to test it out myself.

*8 hrs for 20% = battery flat out to 20% in 8 hrs.

The power supply in Japan is 100 V at 50/60.
but i am not sure how is it going to affect the charging  biggrin.gif

i just back from japan and from my experience, it doesnt matter, just charge it , it works tongue.gif

i own 3 batteries, 1 ori, 1 octopus brand, 1 pisen brand and 2 chargers, 1 ori and 1 pisen. All works in japan, so dont worry so much about it.

why use third party batteries and chargers? cheaper?
imho, i'm spending so much on the camera, i wouldn't want to find out that it gets problematic due to third party batteries or something in the line doh.gif

Ya fully agree, I only buy original charger and even batteries.
Btw there is a new charger coming out model BC-TRW
If I'm not mistaken it is a rapid charger and will fully charge batteries in 90 mins instead of 150mins
There is also another one model BC-QM1. It has a rapid charge button and can charge other size batteries other than NP-FW50

how much is the original charger and batteries? when it comes to gadgets, i always go for original...

Not all 3rd party battery are bad...

You pay for what you get..

I have one (3rd party) that went missing (inside car and it is park under the hot sun every day) for over a year and recently. Plug it into the camera and it still show 100%.. and it delivered its 300 shots too!

What I do know is the weight of the battery (assuming mfg did not load it with false weight like some power bank), is a tell tail sign of what you will get.

I have taken close to 50k frames (in 2 years) on 1 original and 3 OEM battery (from cheap to reputable brand).. no show sign of any expiring anytime soon.

What I did was mark the battery with numbers and cycle all to them during use..

cheaper yes sure it is. reliable? some 3rd party brand is reliable.
when buying 3rd pt especially without brand, its always a risk. there's trial and error as long as the unit is not malfunctioning and cause short-circuit. (its life and i get to learn what to avoid)
i never came across spoil battery will affect the camera performance severely, unless there's a leakage occur in the battery itself.
n i so damn that N years Nex series gave external charger but now we gotta fork it out again. whoever the hell cames out with internal charging is a fkass but brilliant in getting extra cash. mad.gif

Going original is good, but well, there's other factor to go for 3rd pt tongue.gif

plug straight into the wall type or wired?

Wired (UK)

Wall plug (US)

with the wall plug, it is a US flat prong so you will need a travel adaptor
with the wired type, you may still need an adapter for travels

carry less cables. right now, i got iphone usb cables, camera charger cables, just too many cables! I think TSA scan my bag sure think its a bomb

I bought a third party NP-FW50 battery. When I use the original charger that came with the camera, I can't charge the new 3rd party battery. But if I use back the original battery, it can charge. icon_question.gif

Should I go back to the shop and exchange for another battery or the original charger memang cannot recognize 3rd party batteries? icon_question.gif icon_question.gif icon_question.gif

5. Just get a 3rd party battery NP-FW50. Depends on the brand it can be between RM30 to RM80. They are as good as the genuine one but cost significantly less.

I bought 1 and it is unable to charge. Yours can charge? Do I need a third party CHARGER to charge it?

I googled about it and a lot of issue about NEX 5N not being able to support 3rd party batteries, but mine is 3N. I go bring back to shop and see what they say.

nope, if everytime u remember to put it in a bag before going indoor, you are good to go. but 2 problems "prevent" me from doing so,

1. lazy - in winter u wear so much clothes, and i always use backpack, very hassle to repeat the put-in-a-nonventilated-bag before everytime u enter a building.

2. i always take restaurant and food pic when traveling. rolleyes.gif

the battery price... octopus brand bought in ebay/lelong, RM60 +-, pisen battery and charger bought in www.taobao.com and post it here, around RM 60+- too, including charger.

after 2-3 years using 3rd party batteries, i can say 3rd party battery are the same like ori battery. At least 90% battery life if compare with the original one.

yes. best to check. some will state which Nex version does not support. don't know why tho. i thought NP-FW50 battery should be universal across Nex series.
