NEX 3N with standard 16-50mm kit lens got optical zoom? If so, how many times? Google showed very confusing result.

QUOTE(samsungfreak @ Sep 17 2013, 04:41 PM) Sorry to confuse you. Actually optical zoom means the zoom you get from your zoom lens. Prime lens don't have optical zoom. All zoom lens has optical zoom. So 16-50mm has an optical zoom of 50/16 = 3.125 times. If you mean DIGITAL zoom, it actually means the camera crop the picture you take so the picture quality will be degraded. So you are not recommended to use digital zoom. Most handphone camera use digital zoom to zoom because the focal length of the lens is fixed (like a prime lens). Glad to hear that. 3x optical zoom...enough I guess. Sony 3N has 2x digital zoom according to this review http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/digital-cam...review-hands-on So optical zoom 3.125x (for 16-50mm) Digital zoom 2x --- Sony has a few standard and mega zooms 16-70 Zeiss - very expensive 18-105 G - also expensive and 3 variation of 18-200 - also expensive. Digital zoom, dun see the point of it. I rather take full size pic, then crop all I want after that. |

Sony nex 3n got minimum focus distance of 25cm. But just now in shop there I test the manual focus, I think I managed to go nearer than 25cm. So MANUAL minimum focus can go how near actually?
Just to confirm, 16-50mm kit alone can do manual focus no need twin lens right? Very hard to do google search on this cuz got macam2 lenses |

QUOTE(little ice @ Sep 25 2013, 11:33 PM) hey there... Oh hi minimum focus distance depends on lens. some can get you closer, some further, typically longer focal length, longer minimum focus distance. manual can go nearer was probably and illusion, cause you set the focus to minimum, regardless the subject in front of you, but you may not nail the focus if you zoom in 100% and check. which is the other lens in the twin lens package? usually consist of one kit and one zoom, or one pancake and one kit. unless the other lens share the similar focal length (which is pointless), whether you need the other lens is up to you. if you love to do macro shots like you did on your lumia, you need to invest macro lens which allow you to get really close to the subject (which also usually have longer focal length, in layman's term, slightly zoomed lens so you don't actually need to go too close to the subject). Macro, of course macro lens will be great but budget is the problem. I will have about RM500 to spend on additional lenses, not sure if it's enough for macro. If not enough then I'd continue using my sister's compact cam, which can go as close as 1cm. The only prob is that the background isn't creamy enough. On another hand, many suggest to get macro lens...but this pic http://www.flickr.com/photos/59583171@N07/...157634949604113 showed that the kit lens can produce some decent macro. Which made me think that it's not necessary to get a macro lens? |

QUOTE(little ice @ Sep 26 2013, 12:33 AM) it's simple - small sensor is much easier to make a small size lens that allow very close focus distance. like S4 Zoom also can focus subject that's basically almost touching the lens lol. Well, what matters most is that it only requires the kit lens and nothing more. APS-C is much, much larger than regular PnS camera, so a normal kit lens cannot focus too close unless the designer add some elements to allow the lens to switch to macro mode, for example the m43 format Olympus m.zuiko 12-50mm, although the macro mode isn't really true macro but can get much closer to subject nonetheless. the uploader disabled EXIF viewing, so we can only guess. with the kittens, what you can do is the zoom to tele end (50mm) and back off a little, the kit lens might be able to get closer to the subject with further minimum focus distance, but the focal length can reach further. and don't forget, with NEX lenses you can play with filters, and there's this close up filter that you can play with (although it'll sacrifice the optic quality, not a true alternative to macro lens). |

QUOTE(little ice @ Sep 26 2013, 12:52 AM) no trick, just spend money. No i mean this part "with the kittens, what you can do is the zoom to tele end (50mm) and back off a little, the kit lens might be able to get closer to the subject with further minimum focus distance, but the focal length can reach further" .i like how the author put it - just like putting a magnifying glass in front of the lens. http://www.digitalcameraworld.com/2013/05/...style-pictures/ But this close up filter looks interesting, optic quality as long won't drop too much can edi...good bokeh matters more for now. 1) What's the advantage of SEL 55-210mm lens (the 1 that comes with NEX 3N twin package) compared to 16-50 kit lens? Only for extra zoom?
2) May I know which 1 is prime lens? http://www.sony.com.my/series/nex-lens? Is it SEL35F18? 3) For new set, can I just buy NEX 3N body alone? If so, how much? 4) I want creamy bokeh, not sure whether 16-50 kit lens is enough. What do u all suggest? Is it a good idea to just buy the body without the kit lens, then buy a seperate prime lens? I heard that it's harder to focus with prime lens, true? 5) How much does a NEX 3N spare battery cost? This post has been edited by danielcmugen: Oct 5 2013, 12:44 AM |

QUOTE(little ice @ Oct 5 2013, 02:55 AM) no, you want don't sell it. keep it and you WILL be going to need it one day. Alright then, thank you there's no one-size-fits-all for prime lens, and MFD vary from lens to lens. read more here... http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores/se...552921644718503 seriously though, if you never shoot with various focal length, it's very difficult to imagine which one suits you, there's no way you can come out with a conclusion or decision without actual shooting. in fact, even if you bought one of the prime lens, you'll find it suits for certain shooting style, but not all, and you'll end up buying another one, and another one, and... that's the best is to start kit lens, you can set to specific focal length and shoot with that focal length only to simulate prime lens. then you'll know what you actually need. |

QUOTE(RX-78-2 @ Oct 5 2013, 09:32 AM) Why close up filter? Cuz I wanna take macro shots. Sad to hear that, any photo samples from it? How about extension tubes? Notice that it's more widely used. I found it bring down the image quality a lot and the depth of field DOF is too shallow! it is only sharp at the tiny center portion so u will need to crop a lot. i bought one and return it immediately and replace with SEL30F35 which is a easy cheap native Emount macro lens with AF! U mean SEL30M35? It retails at RM999 wor, normal shop usually sell how much? |

QUOTE(RX-78-2 @ Oct 5 2013, 09:32 AM) Why close up filter? How does the SEL30M35 perform in normal non-macro shots? Ignoring the focal length. Wonder if I should completely replace the std kit lens with this macro. Any advice?I found it bring down the image quality a lot and the depth of field DOF is too shallow! it is only sharp at the tiny center portion so u will need to crop a lot. i bought one and return it immediately and replace with SEL30F35 which is a easy cheap native Emount macro lens with AF!
