I think there's a fundemantal thing to being a goalkeeper that's not discussed much:

2 things:

1. Keep IT Simple.
2. Keep IT tidy and practise good technique.

To prevent fingers from getting injured, especially in futsal games, tape Ur fingers. U can use athletic tapes, or normal thin surgical tapes (about RM4 per roll). U can also tape (or use elastic braces) for Ur wrists. Those expensive elastic finger guards are just for show only, tape is better.

A noob question, but how do you tape ur fingers? shud it be really tight, or loose?

Would be nice for some one to post a tutorial on how tongue.gif (seeing how i dun understand how and all)

It should be easy. Don't tape it too hard or else you can't bend or grab properly. It's just some extra protection but still you can get injured if you don't play properly or bad luck

Italy call up De Sanctis as cover for Buffon

ROME, March 26 (Reuters) - Udinese goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis was added to Italy's squad for their Euro 2008 qualifier against Scotland as their first-choice keeper Gianluigi Buffon struggled to recover from a stomach upset on Monday.

Use surgical tape U can easily find in pharmacies, costs around RM4-5. U tape it around the fingers' joints, to make it stiff. It's very useful in preventing injuries.

Hi, good to see a dedicated thread for GK. normally GK job is not as glamorous as midfielder and striker. and more often than not, we landed in that position because no one else wants it. that was the case for me.

to me GK is really not so glamorous. normally ppl won't remember the fantastics saves you made but instead remember the blunders you made that caused your team to lose. on the other hand, if strikers missed the simplest opportunity to score they will be easily forgotten and the goals they scored will be remembered and sometimes recorded as well.

my first official game (a friendly with ref and linesman) was a success. kept a clean sheet but was tainted with blunders like holding the ball the more than 6 secs and touched an obvious outgoing ball that ended in a corner. and didn't know how to organize a wall. after that i refused many invitations because couldn't stand the pressure.

Superficial wounds are normal larr. Comes with the territory. Especially on sand. However, practising good technique can limit the scratches; but won't eliminate it. I still get it sometimes; especially when i'm half asleep. Anyway, the key to the technique is to land at one go rather than dragging your body across the surface. Therefore; you're supposed to skim like a stone across a pond and land. Simple enough? biggrin.gif

The thing about playing as a keeper is that you don't get many chances to redeem yourself as compared to other outfield players. As such, any mistake will be obvious. The key is to be able to maintain your concentration at all times; even though your team is leading 6-0 all the way. Remember, the ball is round. You never know what can happen.

True; playing as GK is a unrewarding (most of the time) task. However, playing as a GK can teach you alot of lessons about yourself and life in general. If you can handle the stress that comes with being a GK; chances are, you'll be better prepared for the difficulties of life as well.

It's all in the mind. If you need to build up your confidence playing as a GK and having to do so many things; do more training by playing monkey with the ball at your feet. This will help you think faster as well as improve your ball control and decision making.

Same here lol...if play tourney, sure get a bit nervous and jittery when your team is leading by a single goal difference. It's a test of character.

The satisfaction of saving a goal-bound shot is no less than the satisfaction of a striker scoring a wonderous goal. Unbelievable feel; sometimes ill punch the air or scream when i make a good save. Then, your teammates will come and mob you, saying "Good job, you saved us"

That's the truly reward of becoming a goalkeeper. smile.gif

my GK role started seriously only 2-3 years back when i got my 1st pair of contact lense. i really regret for not getting it much earlier. realized how much "fun" i've missed.

don't have much match experience and therefore always feel tense at the start of a game until i get the first touch of the ball. the worst thing that could happen to a GK is the first touch is to pick up the ball from the net. i only feel relaxed when my team is at least 2 up.

the worst game i had was my team lost 0-3 and 2 goals were from my mistake. the pitch was in bad shape after rain and there was a ankle deep pool of water in front of the goalmouth and it was in morning. am not offering excuse but i really sucked that day

i still enjoy being a striker especially when no offside rules, can curi ayam mah

and yes my goal kick sucks. at times i can throw further than i kick.

Reach midfield consider ok d la. Some goalkeepers' goalkick really invite opponent's strikers to come and steal only.

Contact lense? Can use it when playing football? My vision have been a problem started 2 year ago, so now sometime make stupid blunder. If contact lense can be use, it be good for me.
