Well what i know is he created his account from SE NA (http://www.square-enix.com/na/account/)
bought a game from GMG (digital collectors Edition)
logged in using his NA SE account from  http://eu.square-enix.com/en/seaccount  and activated his FF14:ARR product ...
when he logged in to http://eu.square-enix.com/en/seaccount  shows FF14 Activated and URL on top is http://eu.square-enix.com/

well hope that will make things clear but yes.. it worked for him.. NA SE account used to log in to EU SE Account site and activate his FF14 bought from GMG ..

I think ur friend will face same problem with Lordsapt, because there is not FFXIV Code yet. only early access code.. which your friend seems to have wasted on.

Now, after reading what Lordsapt had written, I need to get an answer for this.
Q. we can register the pre-order code now?

I ask because I only get a link that direct me to SE pre-order thank you page, that only have an option which is to key in my email. They will send me further instruction prior to early access to key in the pre-order code that I have.
Actually, I only get one link after pre-order from GMG, and also one link after ordering from amazon(US) as well, which is all to that key in email page either for EU(from gmg) or US(from amazon).

yes you can register the early access activation code now to http://eu.square-enix.com/en/seaccount but i strongly advise you not to do it until further notice.

maybe they revamp their mail, cause the mail i got from GMG was like 1mth ago. The mail that i've got has created a lot of issues and unrest among gmg customers. But tbh i dont think GMG is the only party to be blame. EU SE shouldn't have let other region SE account management holders to login to their website and register the game. This has cause a lot of problem for customers

This is what GMG has send me:

Thank you for pre-ordering FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn. As a valued customer, you are now entitled to the following rewards:
Early Access: Allowing access to the game servers ahead of the official launch, get your head start and make your mark in the realm of Eorzea.
Moogle Cap: Show your love of Final Fantasy and strut around the world of Eorzea in this Moogle themed hat. Kupo!
Cait Sith Doll Minion: On sabbatical from Shinra and looking for adventure, Cait Sith will join your party as a non-combat pet when you pre-order the game.
Please find your unique 18-digit code contained in this confirmation email.
Please go to http://preorder.eu.finalfantasyxiv.com and input your email address so we can send you a notification of when you can return and enter your code.
You will need an active Square Enix account to complete the process so, if you want to set one up in advance, please go here: http://eu.square-enix.com/en/seaccount.

Many existing NA SE account management holders got caught here since they allow them to log into http://eu.square-enix.com/en/seaccount and register the early access key

OK, I also get the same email be it from gmg or amazon. the 2nd link that tell you to set up account in advance, I didn't do that since I've already possess one. I did in fact log into my account management but find nowhere to input code. So now what I want to ask is where did you enter the code which is what I'm very concern with. From the email 1st link, it's also stated input your email address so we can send you a notification of when you can return and enter your code.. But you're saying you get to enter the code after you setup the SE account? I find no option to enter any code. it's disable atm.

Man... you guys are really making me confuse! and I'm really frustrated to be honest. I bought both version just to get early access and now it's making me nervous that I might botch things up and waste money. For all the people I know and asked, no one had enter the code.. or actually is that only for eu account? but I thought shoji is EU?

after u log in, click My Profile then click ADD NEW GAME

@poipoy ok u just gotta make sure ur account management is under EUROPE if u buy from GMG and NA if u buy from AMAZON, you wont get to register the game into any region of SE management account yet since the option is not available. But somehow yu can actually register into this website http://eu.square-enix.com/en/seaccount. This is where most people get caught. For ur sake, ur safe, so just keep the code safe, if you have 1, and wait for their email

Oh.. that's the community site @@
Now I understand. I think i'll wait for the email. The site you say is somewhat like a community site for different region. I never go there since I thought registering important game codes etc is done inside the account management page.

I also thought I went to the wrong site initially just now, but apparently there was a new "face lift" of that site (I went to the NA one). Browse some blog posts, and everyone's complaining about losing their forum post, bought games, nicknames etc after the "face lift".. So I'll be taking your advice and wait till I get the email before doing anything with the pre-order code.

It does let you register the code shoji inside "My Profile".
I've read some more blog post there, and apparently, they merge the EU and NA together, into the europe server. This cause lost of data for alot of NA members.

And a more important news I got from those post is that, although it shows you the registering of the code, NA codes are all rejected on that "new-merge" site at the moment since it was originally an EU only site.

I really can't understand why a multi billion company can't make such thing easy on the consumer end...

QUOTE(lordsapt @ Jul 22 2013, 11:57 PM)
let me share my experience with those who have bought fr gmg who is very confuse.

Now firstly, if u buy FFXIV:ARR from gmg, u will be given an activation code. Now this code is EU region. This activation code is not the original game code but it is an early access code. I have spoken to gmg support to confirm this. In the email they have provided 2 websites.

The first WEBSITE1 is for you to put an email account so that they could inform you when the game is launching.

The 2nd website2 is actually an EU SE website for you to key in ur early access code which was provided. The email actually says you can do 1 step in advance to register ur current early access key to the EU SE website.

Now my issue was i have registered an NA(North America) SE management account (SE management accounts are for you to subscribe to the game). I have use this account to log into website2 and key in the early access code as well. The game did register itself in website2 BUT it DID NOT reflect in my NA SE management account. At this point i was very worried so i wrote into SE support. i have chat with them through live chat for around 30mins. They have inform me that since the game is in eu region, it is impoosible to register the game in the NA SE management account hence i wont get to subscribe to the game with my NA SE management account. I ask them what if i made a new EU(Europe) SE management account and then register the game. They say it will work BUT i will lose the early access gifts since i already registered the early access code. Bare in mind even if your account is an EU SE management account, it will not reflect too according to support since they have not finalize anything yet. In the end they ask me to request for a new code from GMG.

Hence i wrote to GMG regarding my conversation with SE support. They find it too troublesome to change my activation code so they REFUNDED.I have made a new EU SE management account too. Ultimately i bought the game again from them and this time round i decided to hold on to the early access code until further notice.

So for those who bought from GMG, i strongly suggest you hold on to the code and do nothing besides going to WEBSITE1 to input ur email.

Hope this clear things up for those who bought from GMG
*
Did exactly that, as i was afraid something like this may happens. I only registered my email address for the early access notification. The code and everything else, it is still pending, i figured it is best to do it once i get notice for the early access then only start the registration process.

This is where you have put your beta key and such

That is my understanding and that all registration of the FFXIV is to be done in https://secure.square-enix.com/ since 2010.
