QUOTE(horns @ Dec 10 2014, 10:35 AM) for now, we still have plenty of options. just wait until the technology becomes mature and harvest it at the right time. (it might be sooner than you thought ) i hope 1TB SSD will be cheaper when windows 10 released ending 2015...that will be the time i pulled the trigguh

By the time w10 is out maybe there will be other surprises as well. These days there is not much exciting news about sata ssd's. I guess its price will continue to go down following moore's law.

Thinking to grab Samsung 840 EVO, but the problem is my MOBO only supports 3Gb/s sata.
It obviously will bottleneck the SSD but from my early research, it will only has significant difference for sequential read/write but not so for random read/write.
I'm planning to utilise the SSD for OS (and some programs), which to my understanding usually has pattern of random access with relatively small data transfer sizes.
Opinions would be greatly appreciated.

HDD's IOPS is also extremely limited compared to SSD. so youll still get the benefits despite the "reduced" speed (able to access cache quicker, load multiple programs at once etc)

For those with sata 3Gbps , no worries man, SSD benefits is still very apparent.
I first used ssd under 3gbps, then later change mobo to 6gbps one, didn't notice huge difference except when writing/reading huge files

Getting Started

|
hi alll, im hunting for 120Gb SSD right now. The choice that i have is Samsung Evo 840 120GB (RM245), Intel 530 120GB (RM255) and for extra around RM100 i can have Kingstone V300 240GB (RM331) and Kingston HyperX Fury 240GB (RM369).
1) Which one is better when comparing between Samsung and Intel. 2) Is it worth for me to get double storage with V300 or HyperX Fury for extra around RM100? How reliable is V300 and HyperX Fury? Thanks in advance.

Is there any difference running OS using old mobo and the new one? (In terms of boot time, shutdown time, responsiveness, etc.) Thanks, man.

http://wccftech.com/usb-31-coming-year/USB3.1 products coming in Q1 2015, does that means 2015 is a good year for SSD? Because HDD right now already couldn't harness the full speed of USB3.0, and USB3.1 storage products are pushing in, will this drive SSD to be utilized in the external storage like flash drives and ext HDD? Will the demand help drive down the SSD prices more?
