What if someone wants to do a clean os installation into their SSD instead..will that be hard?
and Y510P/410P ssd is not common now...
do you think grabbing a cleaning stock Y500 with msata 128GB ssd is a good idea when 510p out?
*
If you can get hold of W8 OD, you can do a clean install easily, provided you grab hold of all the relevant drivers. Do note that if you do this, Lenovo One Key Recovery will no longer work.

The m.2 SSD is rare. And the space in Y410p/510p mean user can only fit in 42mm m.2 SSD (which is small capacity).

Just revert to what most people do with Y580. Take out the HDD and put in a full SATA SSD (256G ~ RM600).

walao, with your requirements, that is likely impossible. windows 8 is pre-installed into laptops as default. so you are likely have no chance to get back windows 7. some more, you want light weight option. what about you consider this?

Lenovo G480, i5-3230M + Intel HD4000@RM1499, 2GB, 500GB (5400rpm), FreeDOS
Lenovo G400s, i5-3230M + Intel HD4000@RM1599, 4GB, 500GB, FreeDOS

1. Preferred Brand
- Any would be okay.

2. Budget
- Around RM2.5k.

3. Usage
For gaming or study/work related stuffs.

4. Preferred laptop/screen size
Doesn't really matter to me.

Hello there, I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this but..
Can anyone suggest me a gaming laptop that could play games at medium settings at the very least.
I would very much like the ones that would last me long enough without having much heat issues.

You won't get a "gaming laptop" for your budget, but you could get normal laptop with medium level GPU.
If you game with laptop, please get good external cooling solution (table fan, cooling pad ... )

Your budget will not get you < 14" with discrete GPU. Unless you wait for Haswell, that mean you have to game on Intel HD 4000. It can handle Dota and CS, but you must lower your expectation smile.gif

1. Something like ACER S7/macbook air? I prefer thin but powerful laptop. My last model was ASUSA42JV which still running strong.

2. RM2000-RM3000 (not sure with this budget)

3. Mostly work (MS Office, Sound Mixing, Video and Picture editing). At least PC can run PES I am ok.

4. Prefer no bigger than 13".

Additional Value:
a) Battery Life - we have laptop that can run 12-15hrs nowadays?
b) Ergonomic USB Port - Good USB, Audio Jack 'place'
c) Something like Vaio/apple keyboard? If there is backlit on keyboard it is better
d) Best internal cooling system - dual, triple, quadruple fan; you name it

Gaming performance is not impacted much by CPU at this level, it's capped by GPU. The GT750M in this V7 is spec with GDDR3, bandwidth restrict the performance of the GT750M.

It is something that I really want to have actually. Longer Battery life, bigger HDD and in term of performance is how fast it can do video conversion, photo editing and multitask software.

Still new with SSD, and I still prefer HDD (if there is any).

Anyway, laptop in the list is just meant to use as sample. My last laptop buying was back at 2010, and I am new with "ultrabook" world. Hopefully can get your advice on laptop brand that I should look and AVOID. notworthy.gif
